OT: Let Them Have It!

Yeah, it's tough to swallow.
The Philippines will surely regret this decision as China continues to flex in the region.

Philippines just gave away the store. I think 40% of ocean freight travels through the south China Sea. And now we have to move our troops to Taiwan.

My prediction is that within 10 years the Philippines will be in a full blown civil war. It's going to be fueled by the Chinese and the Islamic Jihadist. Lots of different groups are going to be trying to seize control of the situation.

Guess they will have to call GhostBusters if they need help after kicking us out!

Remember Olongopo, Subic Bay in the 60's. Everything except the main strip was off limits. A lot of ugly bar girls employed there. After a couple of San Miguel Beers they did not look bad at all!

What in the hell were you doing in Olongopo in the 60's?

Nam?

Yes Nam. I was on a destroyer escourt. We often operated with carriers in Tonkin Gulf, and Subic Bay was a major Navy base we went to.
I have a question:

My uncle also served on a destroyer escort during Nam and the Bay of pigs. He used to tell me stories about fishing downed pilots out of the waters off the coast of Vietnam. When they'd rescue said pilot, they would radio back to his carrier and (as a funny ha ha) tell the flight boss that they were holding his pilot hostage and they had a list of demands. It usually included steaks, beer, ice cream, stuff like that.

My question is, is my uncle full of sh!t as a Christmas turkey? Or did shenanigans like this actually go down?

Helicopters were dispatched to pick up downed pilots for obvious reasons. We operated close to the carriers to pick up pilots that had crashed on take off or landings or much more often a flight deck crew member that fell from the carrier. We picked up one sailor we thought had fallen from the flight deck and asked him what happened. He said he jumped off because he wanted out of the Navy. We don't know if he got his wish. So I go with the Christmas turkey!

Where ya find a carrier at sea , you'll find at least 2 Tin Cans or more surrounding it and escorting it, its common knowledge that the Tin Cans gonna protect the carrier against all action..and probally a few Frigate with them....
