OT: Packages Exploding

Perp is accelerating operations and Clob has made some very good observations about the likely suspect. With bombs, increasing tempo gets you caught or dead. Years ago we had a guy who liked planting pipebombs around town. He was getting away with it and so he stepped up his pace. Then he got sloppy, forgot to grease the threads on his pipe and some powder got in there. Made quite a mess of his apartment when he put that last cap on....but he never knew it...

Remember the dude that fire bombed the governors mansion? He was never caught. I bet it's the same guy. In the surveillance video at the gm, he had a distinct unabomber look to him.

According to news report , he was a 24 year old man old staying at a motel in north Austin. The Police followed him from the motel and knowing he was caught pulled the car off the road and set off a bomb inside the car killing himself.

This dude walked into a Fed Ex store with white gloves, baseball hat and a horrible blonde wig.

It's Austin. That's normal. Prolly paid one last visit to Lucy in Disguise smoked a reefer and went out with a bang.

Not sure how hard it is to make these bombs, but I am guessing it's not that difficult, or this guy has only book smarts and no street smarts. Good riddance either way.

I was told yesterday that DPS had a " very high confidence" that they had the right guy and they were gonna get him. That came to pass.

I have to say that I was told that whatever misgivings that I personally have toward the FBI that they do in fact have excellent profilers. Also, I was told that the ATF has an excellent forensic lab which is very useful in discovering bomb materials.

I havnt been told which agency or combination was the main reason the guy was taken out. I am just happy they got the bastard.

Yes good riddance to this low life. Not to make light of the situation but is it possible this guy had dyslexia and instead of reading “keep Austin weird” he saw “keep Austin wired”?

Mark Conditt 23/24 from Pflugerville depending on which news reports you read. Should be interesting on what comes out of this and why he thought becoming a domestic terrorist was his calling.

These people have such a desire to be famous. It really comes down to this.

A couple things:

1- Are we sure this guy was acting alone? To me it seems like he covered a lot ground and with all the different materials, makes the group theory seem more likely...

2- Why did he suddenly get caught after weeks of being anonymous? Did he just run out, slip up, or does he have more bombs planted/ some big finale already in place....

Lots of questions, hope the feds release some info soon.

If it's anything like Vegas, we aren't going to get anything. But then again, large casinos aren't at risk of massive litigation so maybe we will.

#1 are probably legit concerns that they are fleshing out, but I don't see anything unreasonable in the notion of your second point. He put some bombs on doorsteps and was undetected by cameras and witnesses, but his cell phone was still in play though, and when he decided to go FedEx he made it real easy. Nothing he was doing other than making the bombs was particularly smart.

It might just be me but making home made bombs isn't smart and probably only takes reading comprehension to put the ingredients together. I mean to me it's pretty stupid but when you probably don't care if you live or die it's not a big deal. I'd bet any of us on this forum with the exception of some ousux fellas and a couple of aggys we could all make one just not dumb enough to take that risk.

I would agree, but I am completely ignorant on bomb making. These could have been fairly simple or really complex for all I know. I have no idea what level of skill or intelligence is required, but his actions outside of the actual bomb making showed more stupidity than smarts. That was the main point I was making. He wasn't some Unabomber level evil genius that everyone was hyping from the start.

I think this became apparent when the blonde wig and gloves came into play. It's almost as if he were being pushed by a consulting criminal such as Professor Moriarty from Sherlock Holmes. If I'm the Fedex guy, I'm pissing my pants hoping the box don't esplode.

He was leaving a digital footprint it was only going to take a little time to track it and where he messed up was with going into FedEx looking like a clown and leaving a cell number and his car on camera as well.

Go to your local Home Depot and you can easily pick up materials to make bombs and don't forget tannerite can be bought at academy as well. Remember some crazy out there are prepping for this world to go crazy already and maybe he was one of them.

and his motive was??????? He was home school, college course drop out, fired, unemployed at 24.
The dude breaks all known profiles of previous bombers. The only thing I can up with is that being home schooled, he MAY have not been properly socially adjusted. I say this knowing full well that there are people in here that home school their kids----- but if we leave that part of his history out, we aren't looking at the big picture. Ever take a dog to the dog park for the first time? They freak out a little bit. Over time, they adjust and become more social. This kid may have never "adjusted".

Weird ending to a tragic story (for the victims and their families). Just goes to show you never really know a person....

Yeah he doesn't fit the profile, but how many serial bombers have we had? The less data points the less accurate profiling becomes.
