So last night Cuero played 4-6 Pearsall in the first round. 45-0 at halftime. Final 66-12.

Hey UIL, I bet those kids still feel like winners though! Congrats on taking their losing asses and offering them up as playoff sacrificial lambs. I hope they sue you for therapy bills. Smh

This shit is a joke. Any other retarded playoff matchups?

Likely, the bracket breaksdown in a seeded format. Cuero was prolly a top seed while Pearsall was a lower seed.

No it didn't. I went to aledo vs seagoville last night. Same result. Aledo plays the first quarter then inserts the jv. It will be that way throughout the playoffs. Aledo has 1-2 nfl players on the starting 22.

No. The point is there's too many teams in the playoffs. If you're 4-6, you're a loser, and do not belong.

Either balance the districts or keep it with 4 teams making it.

Don’t follow HS football much at all, especially since I don’t live in Texas anymore, but just have to say that letting teams with losing records into the playoffs is the dumbest sh*t ever.

Years ago, the only way you made it to the playoffs was to win your district. Then, slowly over the years, the UIL kept adding more teams to the playoffs. Now, the top four teams in a district make the playoffs, which is ridiculous. I think it would be fair to have only the top two teams qualify. As Metcalf said, the way it is now is basically a "participation trophy/reward".

It's high school. Too many in high school and too few in college. There are bigger problems.....

Honest question. What is worse...a 4-6 team in the playoffs or a 8-2 team staying home

Not sure I have an answer...or a solution. Both sound pretty bad to me. But I’m generally inclined toward making playoffs more exclusive (in football, at least), so I guess I’ll vote for it being worse to let a 4-6 team in.

lol.

But seriously, baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, etc. are very helpful in many kids getting seen in front of college coaches. If you limit the teams, you take away opportunity.

Also, there are extraordinarily weak districts that don't deserve a single team in the playoffs.

Not sure what all that has to do with football playoffs. Do those girly sports however you want. Nobody's watching anyway. Lol

Chances are, if you have college worthy kids on your team, they're not gonna have a losing record anyway.

Nobody watches baseball? Basketball? So because nobody goes to a HS soccer game or Softball game we should tell those kids thanks for playing, but go find a shovel? I'm out on that man.

As someone that has coached for 18 years, I can tell you there are PLENTY of college athletes on losing teams. And there are plenty of players that couldn't cut it at the college level that were on the "elite" teams.

i believe there are 2 0-10 teams in, due to being in 4 team districts. but the thing to remember is, in playoff contests, UIL gets 15% of the gate off the top. follow the money trail and you'll get to the reason on a LOT of things.

Man I was trying to find a gif from Naked Gun where Frank Dreben says "I realize that...now..." but it didn't work.

I hope you know the scene, would be a hell of a lot funnier if you knew what I was referencing, lol

Lol. I do know the scene. No gif needed.

LOL.

You do realize that in most sports that aren't football the playoffs are how kids get noticed right?

Last year Irving High Boys Soccer was 4th in their district and made it to the State Championship game.
But almost all the time it it a 68-3 beat down. Today we have a socialist playoff system.

The THSCA was a driving force behind this back in 02 or 03 I don't quite remember the exact year. I worked for a coaching legend in the Austin area and his reason for supporting the move from 3 to 4 was that more kids would get to experience playoff football and more coaches would be able to keep their jobs.

Westlake coach or Fuller?

Well out here in the land of dust and lust, I was lucky enough to see the best high school football game I've ever been to. The Fightin' Miners of Bishop Manogue knocked off rival Damonte Ranch in OT, 49-48, in order to win the Nevada Northern Region 4A Championship. The game was at Damonte Ranch where the Miners have experienced four years of futility. When they went for two to win it and converted, a LOT of pent up emotions came out of the boys. It was chippy game between two teams that hate each other....and Damonte had strummed Manogue 63-28 just 7 weeks ago. What a difference a couple months makes....
