Possible coordinators to be hired?

I know TH said there was no rush to hire the coordinators. I am a little worried that this may play a negative impact in recruiting. From what I have read the only options we have read or talked about are Graham Harrell and Joe Brady for offensive coordinator does anyone know of any other possible OC interest? For defense we have heard about Chris Ash and the defensive coordinator from Utah. Have I missed anyone else that may be considered for DC? Is there anything new on the coordinators to be hired that I may have missed?

Clob I guess your right just would like to know where we stand. I guess we will never know until TH has his press conference about coordinators.

So apparently Graham Harrell has a contract renewal from USC sitting on his desk that he has not yet signed. Why he has not signed it is anyone's guess, but obviously he is waiting on something. I think he is waiting to see what all jobs open before he makes a decision. Probably waiting for a HC position to open somewhere because he would have jumped on the Texas job if he really wanted it.

I've heard Rhett Lashlee's name mentioned as a possible OC. He is currently the OC at SMU, and it looks like they did a pretty good job this year. There is always the Major sitting at Alabama as an analyst, but that might not be a possibility. I hope Herman is exploring a bunch of options including NFL assistants.

Not to resurrect fond memories, but was Beck better than Watson? Watson had to deal with a bad head coach and a freshman OL. Nevermind, this topic is too painful.

At this point there is no indication that any recruits are in peril. Van Fillinger flipped immediately and Ty Jordan has likely fliiped though that is unclear. The rest of the class is solid. Are other top recruits are waiting until NSD2 anyways so from a recruiting stand point no need to rush things.

USC had a bad ass offense at the end of the season. It'll be interesting to watch them in the Holiday Bowl against IA.

And almost all the skill players will be back and don't believe the LA social media they're going to catch up in recruiting real quick which will give GH even more weapons. I look for SC make a big comeback next year.

Well now that we didn't get our first choice, every other OC will know they aren't our first choice. Things will get more complicated now.

Why was that out first choice? That offense has never won a ship. Good for show but defense always gets tired.

Clob, do you know if Ash was Texas' first choice? I know he was an analyst for Texas but don't know if he was courted by any other teams besides Texas?

From all reports Ash was the first and only to interview for the DC job. I think Clob is right about our strike out with the OC. It's going to be tough with other OC's knowing that Harrell was our first choice and we struck out. The OC from SMU is not coming here as he has Shane one more year and Brady ain't leaving LSU. Maybe call Major and give him and Interview. He knows TX recruiting and may do wonders with the quarterbacks we are about to have.

Yes. Now obviously there were other names floated that were out of the realm of possibility, but as I understand it, once the obvious "no way" were taken off the table, Ash was the first realistic choice. He was already drawing a paycheck and he has a decent working knowledge of the kids and system.

OC wise, everyone I've talked to have said the same thing about Major-- there's just too much bad juju with Major. You don't fvck one of the student trainers while your wife is preggers and come back and kiss and make up and everything is forgotten.

And even out here 1500 miles away you could tell how arrogant and entitled he was acting when he came back as an asst. I loved him when he was the qb here. Not so much when he was a coach.

On a side note--- and I'd already left the team when this happened-- but major and Ricky were at odds over each other because of a girl. Major has a history of not keeping his peen in check.

I swore to myself that I wasn't going to comment on the new coaches. I'm going to fold my arms for 9 months and take a wait and see attitude. But my brother and I were texting today and I think he made a valid point when he said we should go another direction. Rather than make a "comfortable" hire. A tough mined new thinker on defense and a maverick oc. But that would mean stepping outside the comfort zone. But we've been stuck in neutral for to long. But it does have precedent. After Darrell Royal won his 1rst nc in '63 he got complacent and the rest of the SWC caught up to TX. We had 3 straight 6/4 seasons. But he went to a new offense the wishbone they called it. And Coach Royal went on his most successful run during his tenure. All because he took a chance. But since then TX fb has not done this. It's time to go a different direction. Now do I have a list of coaches? Of course not but I'm sure Coach Herman does.

Yeah I heard that story about Major and Ricky.

Hires are typically done after bowl season. From what I have read, TH is reassuring current committed recruits to place their faith/hope in TH that he will bring in the right coordinators & coaches.

Ohio St was interested in him.
To replace Mattison? Why? Ohio State has the No. 2 or 3 ranked defense in college football. The only way I can see them interested in Ash would be in an analyst role like he has at Texas? Mattison has a pretty solid resume including college and pros.

I'm with you. We talked about this during the off season. Herman has this multiple personality thing going on. And I never know which one is showing up on Saturday. And I think this team follows his "rhythms" as a person.

There's Tom. Tom smacks his gum and hugs his players and is just as happy about winning a game by 1 point as he is about winning a game by 30. A win is a win to Tom.

There's Thomas. Thomas is all business. Thomas shows up during serious games like Georgia or LSU. Thomas chews his gum like he's got a mouth full of hot lava. He has a purpose. Thomas is not to be fvcked with. Thomas is in a bad fvcking mood. Thomas doesn't give a fvck about your feelings, only your outcome.

Then there's Tommy. Tommy is a clown. Tommy likes rubbing his nipples and challenging other coaches to fights. Tommy is discombobulated at times. Tommy gets excited or upset very easily. Tommy is like a teenager who boosted mommies Jaguar to take his boys mudding first, then cruising down 6th street for strippers and blow. Tommy is reckless and in way over his head. Tommy can be a deushe more often than not.

As a player, you reflect the mood of your coach. Don't believe me? Watch the Saban and Belicheck HBO documentary. The Patriots and Bama completely mirror the attitude of those two guys. Both of those guys are no nonsense dudes that don't tolerate any complacency ever. They are 24-7-365 one thing and one thing only-- winning.

We need us more Thomas and less Tom. That Tommy kid can kick rocks.

Nice post and I have to say pretty spot on imo all the way down to the faux titty twister on national tv.

Yeah I heard about that Belichek/Saban documentary. They said they hire asst. not for what they do but what we do. The results speak for themselves.

I would add to this, riverboat gambler Tommy and Turtling Tom. Riverboat Tommy loves to go for 4th and 5 on the opponents 30 with the score within 7-10 points. He leaves points on the field a lot. Then there is Turtling Tom that when presented with a lead, always calls extremely conservative plays that never yield a first down. The dichotomy drives me crazy. It's the perfect picture of poor management and inconsistent thinking wrapped up in a "comfort" hire. I can't take it.

Thanks Clob on the information about Major. I think we need a good OC hire but your right that its going to be a battle trying to hire one. TH will need to give up control and let the new OC make calls.
