1. Well, it wasn’t necessarily a thing of beauty, but if you’re Texas, you gladly take this win and get the hell out of the building. Playing without Sam Ehlinger for most of the game, this one felt like it was going to be dicey going all the way back to the first quarter, and Texas was fortunate to get out of the stadium with the win. It wasn’t pretty, but Texas did what it needed to, and the Longhorns can quickly put this one behind them and feel good about extending their win streak to six games.

2. Man, this team sure knows how to make it exciting. What a finish for the second straight week.

3. Tre Watson got the start (I still don’t get that), but Keaontay Ingram was finally the lead back in terms of carries. Ingram carried the ball 19 times for 111 yards, a hefty 5.8 yards per carry clip. Watson’s about as nice of a young man as you’ll ever meet and I’m rooting for him to do great things, but Ingram just gives the offense an added punch that Watson doesn’t.

4. Shane Buechele finished with a respectable 184 yards and 1 touchdown, but it was a struggle for Buechele in his first action of the season. His QBR of 108.1 is pretty telling of how he performed.

5. Ryan Bujcevski! What a punt late in the fourth quarter. That play won’t get discussed much, but that was a huge kick. That young man needed a kick like that and a day like he had today, averaging 48 yards on four punts.

6. I don’t want to bang on Buechele too much because he was thrown into a tough situation, but he made some really bad throws in this one. His accuracy was off on a lot of his throws and he had two downfield tosses to Devin Duvernay that were just bad throws, one resulting in an interception.

7. Hey clock manager … how about some home cooking? That last one second probably gave a few people a heart attack.

8. The bye week for Texas couldn’t come at a better time. The Longhorns will have a chance to catch their breath after another exhilarating win, and the extra week could be key in getting Sam Ehlinger some extra time to get healthy.

9. Texas needs Ehlinger to rest up and get his shoulder healthy in a hurry. If he’s out for and extended period of time, this team might be in trouble.

10. The Texas offensive line took two steps forward last week against Oklahoma, but this was a step back for that group. Baylor’s front seven is about as bad as any that the Longhorns will face this season, but the offensive line had some real struggles in creating running lanes in this one. It’ll be back to the drawing board for Herb Hand during the off week.

11. Keaontay Ingram didn’t get a carry until the second quarter. That needs to change.

12. Hey dumbass officials, how about not blowing a backward pass dead and letting it play out? You can always overturn it if you let the play go but by blowing the whistle, Texas got screwed.

13. Buechele’s first throw downfield that was nearly intercepted in the end zone was just a bad throw and a bad decision. Duvernay was double covered with one DB trailing and one running out in front of Duvernay. Buechele overthrew Duvernay by several yards and made it look like the pass was going to the DB.

14. That throw by Buechele above sure as heck looked like an INT to me. Texas got a huge break there, especially considering a few plays later the Longhorns punched it in for a touchdown to extend the lead to 20-10.

15. Yes, Texas missed two field goals, but the offense got shut out in the second half. If Texas isn’t better on offense against some of the teams on the schedule in the second half of the season, the Longhorns won’t make it through without a loss or two. This offense has to play better week in and week out.

16. My favorite line from an awful broadcast team … with Texas up 20-10 and about to try a field goal at the end of the first half: “And Cameron Dicker will come out to give Baylor the lead.” Say what?

17. Collin Johnson is freaking incredible. When Texas needs a big play, he’s the offense’s most reliable target. He’s damn near uncoverable with one defender and Johnson was fantastic in this one, making a huge catch for a touchdown and a couple big grabs in traffic. Johnson finished the day with 11 catches for 132 yards and a score. His first two seasons had some ups and downs, but Johnson has become the consistently dominant force Texas fans thought he would be when he first arrived on campus.

18. Cameron Dicker missed what should have been a chip shot to make this game a lot more interesting than it needed to be. I guess we should all just accept that special teams are going to be an adventure this year with so many true freshmen playing key roles.

19. B.J. Foster is like a heat-seeking missile when he blitzes. That dude will punish anything that gets in front of him.

20. What the hell is up with these delay of games to start drives? I’ve lost count on how many times that has happened after a kick-off, turnover, TV time out, etc.

21. Eighteen of Texas’ 24 completions went to Collin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Those two are getting it done every single week.

22. Gary Johnson finished with a team-high 11 tackles, 2 solo tackles for loss and 1 TFL assist. JUCO LB recruit Caleb Johnson had to like what he was seeing from the stands.

23. Texas is bowl eligible after seven weeks. Raise your hand if you expected that?

24. Again, this one isn’t going to be a game you’ll want to save on your DVR to watch repeatedly, but Texas survived against a pesky Baylor team that can score points, and the Longhorns did it without their starting quarterback. I thought all week that Baylor was good enough to make this one interesting and if you would have told me before the game that Ehlinger would get knocked out in the first quarter, I would have bet a good chunk of money that this one would be competitive in the fourth quarter. The offense was a bit more sluggish than I would have expected, but the fact that this one went down to the wire really shouldn’t have been a huge surprise, all things considered. Enjoy the win, catch your breath during the off week and get ready for what should be a fun second half of the season.
