Someone recently asked about peptides thought to prevent or treat Alzheimer's. I wanted to share this with the board. Some supplements are easy to purchase over the counter, and I can get others through my compounding pharmacies. Bolded are the ones I highly recommend:
Memory
Peptide
Function
Semax
Semax has been found to increase brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), which supports neuron growth and survival, and enhances synaptic plasticity. It's known to improve memory formation, retention, and cognitive function
Selank
Selank influences the expression of BDNF and other neurotrophic factors. It has anxiolytic effects which can indirectly benefit cognitive functions by reducing stress-related memory impairments
Cerebrolysin
It mimics the effects of neurotrophic factors, promoting neuronal survival, growth, and synaptic function.
Dihexa (PNB-0408)
significantly enhances synaptogenesis (formation of new synapses), which is crucial for memory
BPC-157
Crosses the BB barrier and may enhance neuro-recovery after CNS injury
Daily Curcumin: Previous studies showed a tremendous response in animal studies with rats that have Alzheimer's. In India where Tumeric is used daily in cooking, the rate of dementia over age 75 is 4% compared to 40% in the US and the UK
Daily Quercetin: a Chinese herb known for centuries for improving longevity. It is being studied in combination with the drug Dasatinib (FDA-approved drug for rare blood disorders) in human trials for Alzheimer's and type II diabetes. A study of mice that had been genetically modified to develop characteristics of Alzheimer’s. Getting rid of senescent cells with this combination staved off the buildup of toxic proteins in the brain that are seen in this form of dementia. He reported that it helped the mice to retain mental acuity, as measured by their ability to remember a new smell.
