A few quotes from DT Chris Daniels of Euless Trinity (OrangeBloods). He may be your next in-state offer at DT:

"I think it's an honor to be in there (the Rivals100). Not a lot a lot of people get to be in there, so it's kind of a dream and I'm living it," Daniels said. "I've just been grinding. I want to make my parents proud, put God first, just keep grinding and leading at my school. Just today (Monday), I got named captain of the d-line and was put in the unity council (leaders of the team voted on by the players)."

"I'm open right now. I'll probably try to do something in football season, wait until maybe playoff time," Daniels said. "I'm trying to wait it out. Maybe on my birthday (December 18)."

"I got a one-on-one with the whole coaching staff at SMU. When I went to OU, they called me out in the middle of it and I had a one-on-one with Bob Stoops for probably about 15 minutes in his office so that was cool," Daniels said.

"Texas would be in my top. They're already in my top, but if they offered and I talked to their coaches, that would help a lot," Daniels said. "My dad even likes them. They're in my dad's top three. They're on my list too, but I'm not sure where yet. I've got all these offers coming in so it's hard to say right now."

Update on OL JP Urquidez of Copperas Cove who will be attending Junior Day on the 28th (24/7):

"Me and Coach Wick have a great relationship and it continues to get strong," Urquidez said. "Really his energy and his tenacity as a coach [stand out]."

"To meet with coach (Charlie) Strong and learn more about the academics, dorms and where he thinks the program is headed," Urquidez said of what he is looking for in the junior day. "They are high, very high on my list. Both of my past junior days have been great experiences so I hope this one doesn't disappoint."

"My dad has loved UT his whole life," Urquidez said. "No, he isn't pushing me. He will be proud wherever I go."

RB Devwah Whaley of Beaumont Central picked up an Alabama "offer" yesterday.

ATH Johnnie Williams of Austin LBJ says he will be at Junior Day on the 28th, per 24/7.

At first glance, he reminds you a little bit of ATH Louis Brown.

Another guy to keep an eye on is OL Keenan Murphy of Crosby. He'll be at Junior Day in two weeks.

Coach Wick wouldn't normally offer guys of his height, but I think he could be your center take for 2016.

QB Shea Patterson of Shreveport, LA commits to Ole Miss:

What is the lowdown on Merrick. Last I heard is that they are exploring immediate grad xfer possibilities at QB. If they get one, Merrick will indeed GS. And if that is the case, he may start looking at other schools as options. If they whiff on xfer, they don't GS Merrick.

Is that still the case?

That sounds right. I think they'll be exploring every option of a transfer QB this Spring though. We need a plug and play guy like now.

I believe that's the idea, but I don't think he has signed a LOI so he is pretty much free to go wherever he wants.

24/7 saying two Louisiana DTs that could be on campus soon because of their relationship with Coach Haley are:

DT, Edwin Alexander, St. Thomas Aquinas (Hammond, LA)
http://247sports.com/Player/Edwin-Al...stitution=2352
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1894602/edwin-alexander-jr

DT, Briston Guidry, Archbishop Rummel (Metairie, LA)
http://247sports.com/Player/Briston-Guidry-38635
http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2597627/briston-guidry

Guidry picked up an A&M offer at their first Junior Day.

After OU's first Junior Day this past weekend, their new offers are OL Chris Owens (Arlington Lamar), DE/LB Marvin Terry (Dallas South Oak Cliff) and 2017 ATH Jeffrey Okudah (South Grand Prairie):

He will flip. He's always wanted to be a Longhorn. Kid was just frustrated it took so long to get an offer from his dream school. That's why recruiting is kind of funny. Lampkin flashing the Horns down as a Sooner commit is case and point.

I have no kind of inside info at all, but my feeling is that Merrick goes elsewhere. Maybe that is a good thing, maybe not, but I am amazed he hasn't already walked.

I doubt it. He currently holds three offers of any type. Colorado State which leads to Florida showing some interest, Nevada and Texas. Unless Florida offers him something more than a grey shirt, I doubt he ends up on a campus other than Texas. They still have room to give him a 2015 scholly if they deem it necessary.

Update on RB Kameron Martin after receiving a Texas offer (OrangeBloods):

"They've been saying they were going to offer so it feels good," Martin said.

"I talked to coach Vaughn earlier (on Tuesday). I just told coach Vaughn, 'Don't sleep on me.' I told him that this morning. I was pretty much mad at Texas. They told me they were going to offer me a long time ago and it hadn't happened. I just DM'd coach Vaughn, said don't sleep on me," Martin said.

"He had messaged me earlier, said 'We love you but we're taking things slow.' Then I told him, 'Yeah but you offered other guys.' Then about 5 p.m. today, he DM'd me, told me to call. I called coach Vaughn, and he was like, 'Well Kam, we have now officially offered. He said 'We've always liked you and now it's official.'"

"They offered me as a running back. I'm going to have to say it opens up my eyes a little more, but I'm still committed to Baylor," Martin said.

"It feels good," Martin said of the UT offer. "That was my dream school, the school I always wanted to go to. But Baylor treated me so well. I really don't know, man. I have to open up my eyes."

"I can't get up there (Austin) because I'm running track right now, so they just told me to come up when I can," Martin said. "I've already been up there though and I'll get up there again soon for Texas Relays or state."

It will be interesting to see if Martin holds on to that grudge. No doubt he would be a commit right now had we offered when we first started sending out 2016 offers. I am not faulting the staff for that because they are allowed to have reservations on a player especially at that stage.

This is just one of the downsides of early recruiting where a player feels jilted if he's not being pursued heavily as a sophomore.

If it is his dream offer, he'll flip. Baylor has to offer these kids as fast as they can in hopes of gaining traction and keeping their commitments. How many early commits de-committed from Baylor this past cycle?

It is a process and he may or may not get that... I'll use PJ Locke as an example.... All Duck until he got an offer mere days before NSD.

I agree. For Baylor to consistently land the bigger fish they can't be late to the party they have to be early.

Damn, Kam Martin has 4.36 speed? And he's Jamaal's cousin? Certainly sounds like he has Jamaal's speed. If he has the same toughness, he's my instant favorite for 2016!

Bevy of offers went out yesterday. Strong's not holding back. I like it:

Per Rivals, Texas has offered DE McTelvin Agim of Hope, AR:

Franks is a very good baseball player too. He was throwing 92 MPH at a couple showcases last summer. Not sure where he's projected in the MLB draft, but I reckon it's fairly high.

Any preliminary reports on where we might stand with some of these guys or at least the Texas guys?

- It's official, we're moving to the spread. Per Higdon:

i think what you will ultimately see is a semi version of the spread, wing-t out of a shotgun look similar to what florida ran with tim tebow. i would expect to see some ohio state and auburn spread concepts where they want to run the ball inside the tackles while gaining a numbers advantage inside. the trick is clearly to "spread" the defense in a horizontal pattern. spread the defense out as much as possible, creating space for your playmakers or in this case your trigger man or quarterback. this is where i think you will see multiple versions of the read-option creating space vertically downfield in the passing game. at the same time, this does not mean you will see texas go to a full hurry up type temp such as oregon. they will be very selective in the hurry up game depending on what the game plan calls for. texas can go so many directions with this offense moving forward. the offensive staff will visit some colleges running a form of the spread in the very near future.

- Swoopes has apparently been shining in practice since the spread was introduced. He's been given free rein to run around, very athletic, no defender on the team can stay with him. Still too averse to contact, though. He's no Tommie Frazier, that much is obvious.

- CB Jestin Morrow and S Jeremiah Maddox, both from Hilton Head SC (same place as Poona Ford) will receive offers soon.

- Some quotes from RB Kameron Martin after his offer:

"I just got off the phone with Jamaal Charles," Martin told HD on Wednesday night. "We had a great talk. He told me not to go to Texas because of him but to go to Texas because I could see myself there for the next 3-to-4 years. I was just asking him about Texas and told him I would keep my options open. He told me to keep it open and just to enjoy the recruiting process. Texas was my dream school."

"I was pretty disappointed in Texas for a while because I thought I was better than a lot of people they had offered," he said. "They kept telling me they were going to offer and I kept asking. I had pretty much every offer in America.

"Texas, that was my dream school. This time last year, if they would have offered I would have committed. I told you that back then. But things changed. They took a long time to offer me."

- DE Mark Jackson is getting lots of attention. Oklahoma is recruiting him as a LB. Baylor is recruiting him as a pure DE. Texas is recruiting him as an athlete, with the hope that he'll become a Fox end. No top list for him just yet. Looking forward to talking to Coach Bedford at the Junior Days. He'll attend the JD at TCU, Oklahoma, and Texas.

- Texas is "right at the top" for LB Jordan Carmouche. He's full of praise for Charlie Strong and his coaching philosophy, and is very close with Texas commit Reggie Hemphill. Strong relationship with Tommie Robinson.

"Any preliminary reports on where we might stand with some of these guys or at least the Texas guys?"

Xavier Gaines is apparently cousins with Cecil Cherry, and has always wanted a Texas offer. Dwayne Haskins seems pretty high on Texas too. He's friends with Locksley and is attending the Texas JR day. After JR day is when we will get a good read of who Texas is really targeting and who is interested. Offers at this point are kind of meaningless IMO. An offer means you are somewhat interested but it doesn't necessarily mean you are a priority.

I'll be somewhat disappointed if Swoopes is the opening day starter. I don't really buy no one on defense can stay with him. We all watched plenty of defenders stay with him last year. He's a good athlete for his size, but he accelerates like he is wearing bowling balls on his shoes.

"I'll be somewhat disappointed if Swoopes is the opening day starter. I don't really buy no one on defense can stay with him."

A change in offense can do a lot for a QB. Boykin went from one of the worst QB's in the nation to a Heisman candidate last year. Who knows if Swoopes will be anything special, but Boykin looked worse than Swoopes did in 2013.

I'm honestly a little interested to see what Swoopes would look like in the spread. Swoopes impressed people coming out of HS at a 7 v 7 tournament where he was essentially just playing "street ball" as I like to call it. Swoopes would be best maximized in a system with very simple routes/reads where he's able to use his legs. No Swoopes isn't fast but he can be utilized effectively in a zone read game like OSU's QB in the national title game (used his size instead of speed). I'm not surprised that Swoopes looks good in the "spread", that offense best fits who he is.

I just don't buy into him being a difference maker athletically. Even when Boykin sucked he still showed great athleticism, but he was just part of an offense that didn't utilize it. Now they do.

With Swoopes size and lack of quickness his running game has to be to go through you not around you, but he has an aversion to contact. Those coupled together don't make for a good dual threat QB.
