Recruiting Thread 2017

Per TFB:
Jordan and Joshua Moore: Two of the top recruits in the 2018 class are Yoakum (TX) ATH Jordan Moore and his twin brother WR Joshua Moore. Both players have blown up during this Spring as schools like Texas A&M, Baylor, and Oklahoma have offered. I was told last night that both Moore’s plan to camp at Texas this summer in hopes of earning an offer.

Both are very raw athletes right now, but have extremely high ceilings and I expect both to be top in-state 2018 recruits. Another factor to remember with the Moores is that their mother attended UT, so we’ll see if that plays a role in their recruitment. – (Andrew)

Derrick Tucker: As many of you know, 2017 safety Derrick Tucker (Manvel, TX) committed to Texas A&M last Friday. This came as a surprise to me. In talking to Tucker on numerous occasions, I always got the impression Texas was at or near the top and he never really said too much about Texas A&M.

I spoke to Tucker and a source very close to the Texas program and here is what I’ve got…

Texas Source – The Texas coaches actually went to see Tucker twice during this spring evaluation period. In fact Texas was at Manvel to visit Tucker the day before he committed (last Thursday). I’m told the staff wasn’t happy with the timing of his commitment. They did feel they led for him. I’m also told that due to his sudden commitment they are going to take a step back and evaluate things but the source said they are certainly open to taking Tucker should he be interested in the future.

Tucker – Tucker admitted that he was very high on Texas but said “I feel A&M is best for me” and didn’t elaborate beyond that. He did also add though, “I’m still looking (specifically at Texas) but I’m solid (to TAMU) right now”.

Almost immediately after Tucker committed to TAMU the following happened…

Paulson Adebo: …Texas offered 2017 ATH, Paulson Adebo (Mansfield, TX). In fact Texas offered Adebo on Friday and while many of his offers are at the WR position, Adebo was offered by coach Bedford as a defensive back.

Adebo tells me that he visited Texas last Friday and met with the coaches. Adebo also noted that he had been to Texas prior to that visit for a game. I asked Adebo if he has any plans to make a return visit and he said, “I haven’t really figured out my plans yet but very possibly this summer”.

In talking to a source I’m told the schools to watch for Adebo are Oregon, Texas and Stanford.- (Super K)

Kam Curl: This is who I’d like to see Texas offer as a potential safety or cornerback prospect; Kamren Curl out of Muskogee, OK. Curl is a 6’2 DB/WR that I’ve had my eye on for a while. He tested well at the Nike SPARQ combine. He measured in at 6’2 176 lbs and ran a 4.56 40 and a 4.15 shuttle. That’s moving and great COD for a fella that tall. To put that in perspective, speedster Ryan Newsome at 5’8 168 lbs ran a 4.56 40 and a 4.15 shuttle as well when he tested at the Nike SPARQ combine in high school.

Curl is originally from California (military family) and has quietly been picking up offers from schools like Tulsa, Kansas, etc. But in my estimation he can play anywhere he wants and while he plays primarily safety and wide receiver I’d love to see the Texas staff get him in camp this summer and find out if he can play CB as well. Based on his movement and measurables, I suspect he can.

Curl also fits the bill of a Strong type DB in that he is exceedingly violent and is a great prospect in the classroom and off the field in general. For your film junkies, he’s worth watching… – (Super K)

If he likes the nose candy as has been rumored, don't want him anyway.
Come on now, you sound like Aggy posters who said Martell and all other decommits aren't good enough because they chose to go somewhere else. Implying that a kid has a severe drug problem is a huge deal. Don't go down that road, it is a bad look

Assuming that's the implication is bullish as well. If he likes to "party", it will all work itself out in the end.

Don't want any more dopers on this team that's all. I clearly said if the rumor was true btw. Never doubted his playing ability either. And I never said "severe". Yours is the email over the top.

By severe, I meant the drug was severe or a harder drug. Yes I agree, no dopers on the team and I think C. Strong has made that abundantly clear. Maybe my comment should have been directed at the originator of said rumor. Labeling a 17-18 year old kid as a cocaine user is pretty stiff.

Hopefully the rumor isn't true and if it is hopefully the kid cuts it out and has a successful future somewhere even if it isn't UT. He's got a lot of talent.

A poster at another website with connections to his school reported that he was seen at his Prom doing the nose candy. Thus they called it a rumor. And I agree, if this rumor is true I hope he doesn't sign with Texas.

Some of his quotes and still are making him sound flakey and I don't want the all talk guys either. They seldom do anything.

Before Grayson Reed committed to Texas A&M, UT OL coach Matt Mattox told the Cy-Creek product that he was going to continue to recruit Reed even if he had given a verbal pledge to another school.

I checked with Reed this week and he informed me via text that Mattox was stopping by his school on Wednesday.

I then asked Reed if he's keeping an open mind or if he's 100 percent locked in with A&M. Silence.

We'll see where this one goes or if it turns into anything at all, but Texas is continuing to recruit the four-star prospect. (Suchomel)

Austin Westlake offensive lineman Stephan Zabie has seen his stock shoot up this spring with numerous offers. He's on UT's radar and is being evaluated, but things have been pretty quiet between Zabie and the Longhorns.

The 6-6, 295-pounder said Texas is supposed to stop by to check on him this spring, but the contact has been limited over the past few months.

"Not lately," Zabie said when asked if he has talked to Texas. "Wickline was recruiting me hard. He kind of offered me verbally. After he left, I haven't really been in contact with the new offensive line coach. I talked to him on twitter and he's supposed to come by one of my spring practices, but other than that haven't talked much."

Zabie did attend UT's spring game in April. If Texas does offer, expect the Longhorns to be in the mix, but Zabie said he plans to take things pretty slowly regardless.

"My family went to Texas. My family at this point doesn't care where I go though. My dad sometimes says, you never know, Austin may not be a good fit. I have really good schools that have offered me that I like, but of course a Texas offer would be a good one," Zabie said. "I would look into it, it's right next to home, see how it goes. At this point, I'm not really worried about. I'm just trying to get better."

Zabie said his parents would prefer him to stay close to home, but they're open to the idea of him leaving the state if he finds the right opportunity. Zabie plans to visit Southern Cal over the summer, along with trips to Oklahoma and Texas A&M (all three have offered).

Zabie was born and raised in Philadelphia. He moved to Texas his freshman y ear of high school and just started playing football last year.

"I'm still new to the game of football. I just played my first full year last year," Zabie said. "I think I've gotten better. I think I'm a lot better from the season to now.

"My strengths are my athleticism and my footwork. I just want to improve on everything - run game, pass pro, aggressiveness, toughness. I want to perfect my craft. I want to be overall good, not just at one thing."

If the Longhorns decide to offer, they'll have an ally in quarterback commit Sam Ehlinger, Zabie's teammate.

"He sure does," Zabie said when asked if Ehlinger tries to recruit him to Texas. "He talks to me about it. He's always like, 'When Texas offers you, you know you're coming.' But they havent' offered yet."

How much impact would Ehlinger's recruiting pitch have if Texas offers?

"Sam's my good friend. Honestly, it just would be to me another offer, just not another offer because they're home. I would be really close to my family, it would definitely have some sort of boost in the way I'm evaluating schools. They definitely have that upside, but at the same time I want to be able to evaluate all other schools." (Suchomel)

EJ Holland's VIP notes:
had an opportunity to spend most of the day with Houston Bellaire Episcopal defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and offensive tackle Walker Little. Here are some key takeaways on each prospect.

Marvin Wilson

Wilson stayed after school to get some extra work in the weight room, where he currently benches 375 and squats 475. The five-star prospect is working hard to improve those numbers this summer. Wilson, however, did not lift today. Instead he worked on explosion drills with medicine balls and plyometrics. It was extremely impressive to see a 330-pound monster jump the way he did this afternoon. As far as recruiting goes, Wilson will visit Oklahoma on June 4. That is the only visit he has planned. He also hopes to see Florida State, Florida, USC, Texas and a handful of others this summer. Alabama and Florida State seem to be at the top of his list, but I would put Texas third with LSU, Ole Miss, OU and Texas A&M heavily in the mix as well. Wilson said Texas is definitely ahead of A&M as far as in-state schools go. He will release a Top 10 this summer and make a final decision on National Signing Day.

Walker Little

Little had a skill specific workout elsewhere, so I didn't get to see him going through any drills. However, I did meet with Little and his parents at their home and spent a couple of hours there. The family just visited Stanford a few days ago and said they had a wonderful time in Palo Alto. In my opinion, Stanford, Ole Miss and Texas are the teams to beat here. The family loves Texas and Charlie Strong and is fond of new offensive line coach Matt Mattox. The biggest thing they want to see is Texas win games on the field. Little said he might visit UT again for Under The Lights in July. He also plans to visit Florida, Florida State, Auburn and a handful of others this spring. Little does not want to make a decision until some time during his senior season.

Per TFB:
Taquon Graham: I was told that Texas DC stopped by Temple HS earlier this week to see DE Taquon Graham. Graham plans to announce his commitment after his spring game next Friday. He also told me that he has already made up his mind and is ready to go. That bodes very well for Texas. – (Andrew)

AJ Davis: I wanted to pass along a quick note on Lakeland (TX) RB AJ Davis. Davis let me know recently that he plans to visit Texas this summer. He does not have a date set at the moment but wants to make it a priority to try and make it to Austin this summer for a visit.

Right now you could say that Davis is Texas’ #2 RB option behind Ohio State RB commit JK Dobbins. Another thing to remember is that we’ve reported that Davis has said he doesn’t mind playing his college ball outside of the state of Florida. – (Andrew)

JK Dobbins: Texas did stop by earlier this week to visit JK Dobbins (La Grange, TX). I exchanged a few messages with Dobbins last night and while he would not commit to any visits, I get the sense that he may be considering taking some in the near future to ensure that he has been thorough enough in the process. – (Super K)

Baron Browning and Jeffrey Okudah: 5-star LB Baron Browning and DB Jeffrey Okudah have a big visit planned to Ohio State this weekend. Most know that Ohio State holds the edge for Okudah right now, who is originally from New Jersey. This could help them with Browning, who will likely get the red carpet treatment from Urban Meyer.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this is a big weekend for two of Texas’ top targets. – (Andrew)

Additional Commentary on Browning and Okudah: I remain steadfast in my belief that Texas has a much better shot at Marvin Wilson than most believe. In fact if I had to predict a landing spot for him in the end (assuming of course Texas rights the ship on the field this upcoming season), I’d say Texas at this early stage.

But I very much differ with the majority on where things stand at the moment with Baron Browning. I don’t think Texas is in a great spot right now. In fact I think schools like Ohio State, Notre Dame and UCLA (Baron probably has the strongest relationship with the LB coach at UCLA) are sitting in stronger positions at the moment.

Having said that, it’s about the long game with someone like Browning. For Strong it’ll be about creating that momentum on the field and closing (as we’ve seen him do) hard in recruiting.

Okudah is a self admitted Ohio State lean. In conversations with Okudah he has mentioned to me the possibility of committing sometime late this summer. If that happens then at this point it would likely be Ohio State (though he has a number of visits planned for this summer and Clemson seems to be making a push at the moment). Texas’ best chance with Okudah will very much, in my estimation, depend again on the production on the field, a clear path to Okudah getting on the field as a freshman (he’s an early enrollee) and the Texas staffs’ ability to make an academic case for Texas over a school like Ohio State. – (Super K)

Ondario Robinson: Earlier this week, Texas offered 2017 DE, Ondario Robinson (Hutto, TX). Last week Robinson picked up an offer from the Sooners and then promptly released a top seven list. However, he prefaced it with a note indicating that new offers could change things…

I chatted with Robinson last week but I have not heard back from him regarding his Texas offer or whether he will take a return trip to Texas. I will say that earlier in the spring when I asked him about any possible interest he may have in Texas he said, “I haven’t heard from Texas since last season, so as far as I know Texas has no interest in me so I will not be attending any events that Texas is hosting anytime soon.”

Obviously, since then he’s heard from Texas and received an offer. I think the quote was noteworthy though because he didn’t seem pleased at that time with the fact that he hadn’t heard from Texas. In my opinion you can look at that in at least two notable ways. 1) Texas hurt themselves by not staying in touch and it will have an effect on their ability to get back into Robinson’s good graces or 2) If a recruit is upset about not hearing from a particular school it usually indicates there is a lot of interest in that school (I don’t think he’d be upset about not hearing from Boston College or USC for example). If it’s the latter, which is my suspicion, then that can typically be remedied.

I will say that the past couple times I was able to reach Robinson, he noted how much communication he’s had with OU and added that he will take a visit to Norman this summer. And now with Texas A&M offering as well I imagine he will visit there also.

We’ll continue to try to reach Robinson to get his thoughts on the Texas offer and find out if a return visit will happen. – (Super K)

Chevin Calloway: Texas stopped by Bishop Dunne for a second time to see, among others, 2017 CB target, Chevin Calloway. You’ll recall Calloway recently visited Texas.

I spoke to someone on the staff at Bishop Dunne and was told that Calloway will make a return visit to Texas this summer but an exact day has not been decided on. The staffer also noted generally that Calloway, “loves Texas”. – (Super K)

A Couple Notable Spring Visits: As mentioned above, Texas stopped by to see JK Dobbins this week. The staff also visited 2017 DT, Deiontae Watts and 2017 LB, Anthony Hines earlier this week. Also, I’m told that a Texas staffer was in Oklahoma to visit offensive lineman and recent Texas offer and visitor, Creed Humphrey (Shawnee, OK). – (Super K)

How does Montrell Estell's commitment today affect Manning, Shavers, Netherley?

How does Montrell Estell's commitment today affect Manning, Shavers, Netherley?
Not at all. Estell is coming as a safety which is HUGE for this class. Plus size and plus speed. BIG recruiting win.

For Montrell Estell, Friday was a day of big news. And big surprises.

Estell, a versatile athlete out of Hooks, caught most people by surprise when he announced on Twitter that he had committed to the Texas Longhorns. A highly-regarded wide receiver prospect, Estelle's announcement comes with an additional twist - he plans to play defensive back for the Longhorns.

"They have the best defense for safeties," Estell said, shortly after he had informed the Texas coaches of his decision. "They put out the best DBs in the country."

Estell has been told by the Texas staff that he could play on either side of the ball. After thinking things over, he said he has decided he'd like to focus on defense once he gets to Austin.

"I'm going to paly safety. I like that they put guys in the NFL. The tradition. And I'll be playing with one of the best in Brandon Jones," Estell said.

A 6-2, 177-pounder, Estell said he's been thinking of making a decision in recent weeks and he decided to make things official after talking it over with people close to him.

"Basically I just talked to my family. Texas is close, so they can come to all my games," Estell said. "It's a lot of weight off my shoulders. I can breathe now. I called coach (Charlie) Strong like 10 minutes ago. He's fired up."

Estell chose Texas over a number of other offers. Alabama, Texas A&M and Baylor were also drawing consideration. A three-star prospect, Estell becomes the Longhorns' seventh pledge in the 2017 recruiting class.

As a junior, Estell earned first-team all-state honors after recording 69 tackles and 6 interceptions, three that he took back for touchdowns. He added over 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns on offense and special teams.

"They (the UT coaches) have been saying I can play both receiver or DB, but I decided I want to play safety," Estell said. "I'll bring a lot of tackles, interceptions and hard work."

Key Offers:Estell has watched the offers roll in recently. Alabama, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Baylor, Michigan, and Texas A&M all extended the receiver a scholarship offer.

Evaluation:Rated as the No. 17 prospect on the 2017 LSR 100, Estell is an impressive athlete first and foremost. In addition to being a standout receiver prospect, Estell is also a very impressive defensive back. During the 2015 track season, the 6-2, 177-pound prospect ran the 100-meter relay, 200-meter, 400-meter, the 200 and 400-meter relays, and competed in both the triple and long jump. He also, according to MaxPreps.com, plays baseball for Hooks. So yeah, it’s safe to say Estell is quite the athlete.

Where he likely profiles best is maybe at receiver because of his rare blend of size, speed, strength, and playmaking and ball skills. A fluid runner in the open field with ability to make defenders miss, Estell is both a vertical threat down the field and also the kind of prospect a team can put in the slot and throw a swing pass too, like Hooks does so often.

But as Jason Suchomel just reported, Estell plans on playing defensive back at Texas, where he was first-team all-state this past season. With that size, speed, instincts, and playmaking ability, Estell is just as impressive of a DB prospect as WR.

Basically, Texas landed an instinctive, impressive athlete that makes plays all over the football field. He has the look of a Rivals250 prospect.

Why it matters:Considering who Texas was up against, this is another solid recruiting victory for Charlie Strong and company. It's not like here weren't a lot of big-time programs, including tough in-state competition, after Estell.

With the commitment of Montrell Estell, TE coach Jeff Traylor now ranks as the top recruiter in the country, according to 24/7.

Quotes from DT Marvin Wilson of Bellaire Episcopal (24/7):

“I’m going to Oklahoma,” Wilson said. “I’m probably going up to UT again. I’m going to head out to UCLA and USC. I’ll probably hit Florida State again and probably Alabama. After that, I want to narrow things down and come up with a Top 10.”

“Texas has always been on top of A&M,” Wilson said. “They are on top for sure. They have the advantage because of Brick Haley and Charlie Strong. He is one of the top coaches in the state right now.”

“They have to win,” Wilson said. “That’s all they have to do. They have to win. I would say nine wins. If they can make it to nine wins, they would be in the discussion big time, especially as a kid that grew up watching Texas.”

“I actually talked to Malik (Jefferson) a lot when I went up there,” Wilson said. “He just told me that I would help playing in front of him. Whatever I miss, he would clean up. He’s good guy. I enjoy talking to him.”

IT- WR Damion Miller UT commit still looks to be solid

The ETSN (East Texas Sports Network) Combine is where athletes from across the ETX region get invite-only opportunities to showcase their talents in a number of ways: 40-yard dash, shuttle, vertical leap, and broad jump, and more. After the initial testing, the prospects then go through 1-on-1 drills - OL vs DL and WR vs CB. This is where it gets physical.

Kids realize a good showing today means a new offer tomorrow. It's probably my favorite portion of the event.

But the best part of the day was seeing Texas pledge Damion Miller walk through the door. I knew the John Tyler 4-star wasn't participating today after speaking with his mother this morning, but just his appearance drew raves. He was decked out in Longhorns gear and every participant was working towards what he has; that exclusive offer from a major program like Texas.

Here are Saturday's notes on Texas targets (EJ Holland).

— Four-star 2018 Houston Lamar cornerback Anthony Cook will camp at Texas on June 5. Cook is hopeful that a Texas offer will come his way soon. He is extremely high on the Longhorns early on.

— Four-star 2018 Manvel wide receiver Jalen Preston also plans to camp with Texas on June 5. Preston holds a Texas offer but hasn’t had much contact with the staff since the departure of Jay Norvell.

— Four-star 2018 FB Ridge Point tight end Mustapha Muhammad said he would likely visit Texas at some point this summer. Muhammad holds a UT offer but hasn’t had much contact with the staff since Chris Vaughn left.

— Houston Lamar safety Grant Delpit recently released a Top 10 list that did not include Texas. Delpit said that could change, but he wants to visit this summer and build a better relationship with the staff.

— Four-star Manvel safety Derrick Tucker recently made a verbal commitment to Texas A&M and is solid with his pledge. Tucker, however, recently had a conversation with UT defensive coordinator Vance Bedford and hasn’t lost all interest in the Longhorns.

— FB Elkins linebacker/safety Kenneth Murray has blown up this month with a number of major offers. Texas defensive coordinator Vance Bedford recently visited Murray, who believes an offer could come down the line.

EJ Holland: Recruiting tidbits from the road

Spring football is upon us. And that means it's one of the most important times in recruiting. Coaches have an opportunity to watch players practice and woo high school football coaches. The evaluation period also gives pundits like myself a chance to hit the road and see the prospects we write about up close and personal. Here are my thoughts and observations from the nine stops I made this week.

Lake Dallas
I’ve seen Texas cornerback Kobe Boyce work out in a couple of camps, but this was my first time seeing him in pads. And I definitely liked what I saw. Boyce has added some weight to his frame, displayed physicality and great ball instincts. But my biggest takeaway from the practice was the fact that he might not be a straight up corner. Boyce reminded me a lot of 2015 signee Eric Cuffee last year in both his playing style and ability to be a nickel back. Boyce will play both corner and safety for Lake Dallas this season. As far as his recruitment goes, I fully expect him to stick to UT. Another name to keep an eye on at Lake Dallas is offensive guard Segun Ijiyera, who attended Texas junior day and holds five offers. Texas likes him as a defensive lineman.

Keller Timber Creek
Consider me a fan of Keller Timber Creek offensive lineman Alan Ali. At 6-foot-5, 270 pounds, Ali is a mauler that likes to get physical in the trenches. Ali showed off his dominant run blocking ability at practice this week and served up a handful of pancakes. The biggest question mark I have with him is pass blocking because I hardly saw him get a chance to do it. Ali is currently committed to SMU, but Texas is keeping tabs on him and could extend an offer down the line. A name to know in the 2018 class is wide receiver Erik Ezukanma. He has good size at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds and put up some nice numbers as a sophomore. Ezukanma doesn’t hold any offers at this time.

North Mesquite
North Mesquite is full of sleepers. Perhaps the biggest one of them all is cornerback Davion Thompson. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder has excellent size and looks comfortable on an island. One P5 coach told me that everyone is missing the boat on this guy and that his stock should soar soon. Louisiana-Monroe was the first school to put an offer on the table this week. I really like running back Dreshawn Minnieweather. He should have multiple offers but needs some work to do in the classroom. Wide receiver Donte Howell is a name to know. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Howell is a big, tall physical pass catcher. He holds offers from Air Force and Army and is starting to receive some more major attention.

Allen
I’m a little surprised Texas hasn’t shown more interest in Allen offensive lineman Will Sherman. At 6-foot-3, 295 pounds, Sherman is a natural guard who excels in both run and pass blocking. While nothing pops out at you, he is solid all around. I believe Sherman is a bit underrated as far as where he’s ranked. He currently holds a dozen offers from schools like California, Colorado and Illinois. Texas is, however, showing some interest in three-star running back Kirby Bennett, who already holds offers from Colorado, Ole Miss and SMU. The 6-foot, 195-pounder rushed for more than 1,200 yards as a sophomore and is poised for a monster junior year. Two 2019 recruits to know are quarterback Grant Tisdale and wide receiver Theo Wease — both hold SMU offers.

Update on OL Walker Little of Bellaire Episcopal (24/7):

“I’ve been talking to (quarterback commit) Sam Ehlinger quite a bit lately,” Little said. “He definitely wants me to make it out and hang out with him and get a feel for Texas. If I’m going to go, it will be the Under The Lights weekend.”

“I want to go to a school that’s winning games,” Little said. “That’s an impressive thing but more so the coaching and the atmosphere with these new coaches, especially Coach (Matt) Mattox. I want to see how the players react to them. I want to be in touch with players to see how they feel around him.”

“We’ve had a lot of casual conversations,” Little said. “We’ve just been trying to get to know each other. He definitely wants me out there. We’re building a really good relationship — probably the best out of any of the coaches I’ve been talking to.”

“I want to take my time with it,” Little said. “I don’t want to rush into it or make a decision just to make it. It’s a really important decision.”

Worth mentioning that Scout is hearing rumors multiple highly-ranked Texas kids are going to be playing for IMG Academy in the fall. No names have been dropped yet.

Jason Higdon: Taking A Look At The Texas Board

LB

One of the more unusual positions to keep an eye on is Linebacker. Texas will try and sign three linebackers in this cycle. Dylan Moses, Anthony Hines, Baron Browning, Levi Jones, Tyler Taylor and Chris Allen are the leading players heading into the summer months. Moses, Hines, Browning, Jones, and Taylor will all visit Texas in the coming weeks. Texas needs to land one of Moses, Hines, Taylor, and Browning, but preferably two of four. Two of four is a realistic expectation for Longhorn fans at this time. The focus is on the first five with Moses, Hines, Browning, Jones, and Taylor.

DT
The defensive tackle board has little to no drama whatsoever as the evaluation period comes to a close. Marvin Wilson, Juan Harris, Deiontae Watts and Damion Daniels are the offers, but Texas fans need only pay attention to one. Marvin Wilson is at the top and will remain there until the end. One player, I am keeping an eye on is Katy standout defensive linemen Corey Bethley.

DE
The defensive end position has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. Texas has extended nine verbal offers as May comes to a close. Lagaryonn Carson, Robert Beal, Taquon Graham, K'Lavon Chaisson, Earnest Brown IV, Isaiah Buggs, LaBryan Ray, Alec Jackson and Ondario Robinson hold offers from Texas. On National Signing Day, Texas fans can expect to see three defensive ends in this class. Things look favorable with Temple standout Taquon Graham as his decision date inches closer. Robert Beal will visit Texas very soon. Texas should see one of Jackson & Ray visit Austin over the summer months. Keep an eye on Isaiah Buggs; let's see if he trips to Texas moving forward. I am not focused on Chassion or Brown currently.

S
The safety position resembles the defensive tackle board, not much drama right now. Jeffrey Okudah, Daniel Wright, Isaiah Pryor, Derrick Tucker, Robert Barnes and Grant Delpit hold offers from Texas. Recent verbal commitment Montrell Estell should get his start at the safety position for the Longhorns. As is the case with defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, Texas seems to be all in with Okudah.

CB
The corner board brings us DeAngelo Gibbs, Chevin Calloway, Stanford Samuels III, Justin Broiles, Kary Vincent, Jr., Kobe Boyce and Saiid Adebo. Boyce is on board putting Texas in a position to zero in on two more corners to round out the class. The players seem to be Calloway, Vincent, and Adebo. If Texas can land two of those three, they will be in great shape in the future.

QB
The quarterback position is set with Sam Ehlinger.

TE
Tight end position is set with Major Tennison, which brings us to the...

OL
offensive line. Texas has extended 12 verbal offers at this time. Adrian Ealy, Walker Little, Austin Deculus, Jack Anderson, Tyrese Robinson, Grayson Reed, Edward Ingram, Chuck Filiaga, Calvin Ashley, Will Farrar, Creed Humphrey and Xavier Newman hold offers from the Longhorns.

The players I am focusing on at this time are Walker Little, Grayson Reed, Chuck Filiaga and Xavier Newman. Even with Reed announcing for Texas A&M I think the outcome of 2016 could play a major role for Reed and his family. Texas fans should expect to see new offers at this position moving forward.

WR
Texas should land three wide receivers this cycle. The Longhorns have extended eight verbal offers. Hezekiah Jones, Damion Miller, Camron Buckley, Mannie Netherly, Omar Manning, Tyrell Shavers, Devonta Smith and Jalen Reagor hold offers from Texas. With Miller on board, Texas is in a good position. Netherly, Manning, and Shavers will get plenty of attention from the staff in the coming months.

RB
Texas lacks quantity at the running back position, but they more than makeup for it with quality. Toneil Carter Jr., J.K. Dobbins, Najee Harris and A.J. Davis hold offers from the Longhorns. The primary focus, in my opinion, seems to be Davis and Dobbins right now. I expect to see both visit Austin over the summer.

DE Taquon Graham (Temple). Not even sweating it. Strong does his work at the end.

IT on Graham - Mom laid down the law and told him once he commits even if it's just a verbal he's done.

hammster on Graham: Just talked to him. A&M still on the outside looking in. Has not been invited to the BBQ event (that could be because the staff was expecting him to be off the board on Friday) and the only visit he knows he wants to take is OU.

Temple defensive end Taquon Graham will no longer be making a decision at his spring game on Friday. Graham was considered a Texas lean, and it would have been a major surprise if the four-star prospect would have committed to any school other than UT at the end of the week. So what changed? According to a source close to Graham, somebody blatantly anti-recruited Texas over the last few days, which made him second-guess his intentions to make a verbal pledge on Monday. While the situation might look troublesome for Texas, I’m told the Longhorns are still in a prime position to land Graham. He’s visited UT on a number of occasions, his mother loves the staff and Charlie Strong is a key figure in his recruitment.

With that said, TCU has made a major surge as of late — Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson has made Graham one of his top personal targets. Graham is listening to TCU, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make a visit. Texas A&M is also making a strong push for Graham, but according to sources, TCU is the bigger threat to Texas in this recruitment. Right now, Graham has no new date for a decision, but he will likely make a commitment at some point in the summer. At 6-foot-3, 251 pounds, Graham is ranked as the No. 12 weak-side defensive end in the country and No. 26 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite. (Holland)

Don’t be surprised if Texas extends some new offers over the next 24-48 hours. The Longhorns staff is off of the road and will meet tomorrow to go over prospects they watched this spring. Some names to know in the 2017 class are Nacogdoches cornerback Josh Thompson, Cy Ranch wide receiver RJ Sneed, Magnolia West defensive back Myles Jones, Keller Timber Creek offensive lineman Alan Ali and Houston Christian defensive tackle Joshua Rogers.

Offers will likely not be limited to 2017 recruits. Guys like Yoakum safety Jordan Moore, Yoakum wide receiver Joshua Moore, Sachse quarterback Jalen Mayden, Prestonwood Christian cornerback Verone McKinley III, Rockwall linebacker Alston Orji and Crosby running back Craig Williams have all been in frequent contact with the staff. (Holland)

Ondario Robinson is a local defensive end with national offers, who Texas is recruiting to play Fox end. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the Longhorns recruited another very similar player last season in Manor’s Erick Fowler. Their two towns are separated by just 17 miles and the schools have often been paired together in the same district. So it’s little wonder that Fowler and Robinson are friends. They met at a JV game between the two schools a few years ago and discovered common ground because Fowler is cousins with Davion Davis, who is the last standout to come out of Hutto – he currently plays at Sam Houston State. That interaction led to a lot of common ground between the two Austin-area football stars. “Erick is cool,” Robinson said. “He’s not how you would expect a five-star athlete to be. He’s not in your face or anything like that.”

Robinson and Fowler have a lot in common, including recruiting, but when together the pair actually stays away from the subject. They talk football, but both have done enough recruiting talk in their lives. Yet, when it comes down to it, Robinson knows that Fowler is a guy he can talk with if he needs advice on the subject of recruiting, specifically in regards to Texas. Fowler is one of the few guys from the area who has landed at a huge school, and Robinson will take that under consideration when looking at the Longhorns. “Right now that’s the only guy I really know who went somewhere,” Robinson said. “So if Erick and I get closer there’s a possibility Texas moves up on the radar.”

Robinson is rated as the No. 583 overall player in the country and the No. 26 strong-side defensive end, according to the 247Sports Composite. (Hummer)

John Tyler wide receiver Damion Miller said he was tired of answering the same questions about his commitment to Texas. Since we just had an update on Miller and where he stands, I decided to go a little off the grid and asked him some abnormal questions about the recruiting process. Here is our candid conversation with Miller.

Horns247: What’s the best part of the recruiting process?

DM: I like the pictures! People sending me those edits. They’re pretty cool. I’m starting to know new people. Just getting to meet people and talk to different people.

Horns247: What’s the craziest part of the recruiting process?

DM: Dealing with coaches. Sometimes, coaches come at the recruits like they already know us and what we’re about in our personal lives. But really, they don’t know us because they’ve never talked to us before. I just don’t like that.

Horns247: What about dealing with reporters?

DM: At first, it was cool. But after a while, you just don’t want to talk. They keep calling you and calling you and calling you. It’s tough to talk to a lot of reporters a lot.

Horns247: What’s the best visit you’ve been on?

DM: Texas Tech. I know a lot of people from Texas Tech. There are like five or six people that I grew up with like Pat Mahomes and Dylan Cantrell. Jake Parker is like my God brother. I felt comfortable around them, so they made it fun.

Horns247: What’s the worst visit you’ve been on?

DM: SMU. They really didn’t talk about much. They didn’t tell me about the education or anything. They just went straight to the football. The first thing for me when thinking of college is education. But SMU didn’t tell me anything.

Horns247: Who do you feel is the best recruiter?

DM: Coach (Jeff) Traylor. He’s picking up some nice players. To me, I know I feel comfortable with him. Coach Traylor will tell you the truth. He will be 100 with you, so I really like that about him.

Horns247: You’re obviously committed to Texas and Traylor but are looking at other schools. What do you say to the people that say you’re ‘not really committed’?

DM: To me, it’s business. I’m trying to do the best thing for me. I want to find a place where I can have a good life, get a good education and play football. Even though I committed to Texas, I still want to see other schools to make sure there isn’t another place better for me. Coach (Charlie) actually says he doesn’t want recruits to be stuck on the school. He wants us to visit other schools because there might be a better place for us that we don’t know about.

Horns247: Who is the best defensive back you’ve gone up against in this class?

DM: That’s a tough question. The best one I probably went against was Justin Broiles. His footwork is nice. He breaks well on balls. He’s just a good player overall.

Horns247: Who are some of your personal top recruits in the state?

DM: Trestan Ebner is one of them. Derrick Tucker. Octavius Evans is a good receiver with decent size. Sam Ehlinger. He’s going to be my quarterback. And Damion Miller.

Horns247: That’s pretty much it, man.

DM: That’s the weirdest interview I’ve ever had… (Holland)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Like Miller, Henderson athlete Trestan Ebner said he was tired of answering the same questions about recruiting. Since we just had an update on Ebner and where he stands, I decided to go a little off the grid and asked him some abnormal questions about the recruiting process. Here is my candid conversation with Ebner.

Horns247: What’s the best part of the recruiting process?

TE: What?

Horns247: Obviously, getting the ladies since you’re texting a girl heart emojis and not paying attention.

TE: Anyway… it’s talking to EJ Holland. For real. You’re the only recruiting reporter I talk to. I don’t like talking to any of the others. EJ is a laid back dude and a nice guy overall.

Horns247: Damion should have said that (laughs). So why don’t you like dealing with reporters in general?

TE: I just don’t like answering all those questions. I just don’t like talking to people all the time about football. It gets boring. I don’t really care for them.

Horns247: What’s the best visit you’ve gone on?

TE: The best one I’ve ever been on is TCU. Our tour guide actually explained the reasons to come to the school. Their coaches were all about talking to and getting to know the players. It was also a good game. They beat Texas.

Horns247: What’s the worst visit you’ve been on?

TE: I actually haven’t had a bad one.

Horns247: What’s the craziest part of the recruiting process:

TE: Fans. I don’t like when they say that a school didn’t like me and really didn’t want me there. There is this dude from Arkansas that’s crazy. He always replies to me every time I get an offer. He always mentions me. I don’t even know these people.

Horns247: Who is the best recruiter?

TE: I like Coach (Chad) Morris. He keeps it real with me. I like Coach Traylor a lot. He’s honest. He understands where we come from. Coach (Vincent) Marshall from Syracuse really cool. He keeps it 100. He tells me what I need to do and all of that.

Horns247: Who is the best defensive back you’ve gone against?

TE: Jeffrey Okudah. He’s so good. He’s the No. 1 safety and he can cover. You don’t really see too many safeties that can play man like that.

Horns247: Who are some of your personal top players in the state?

TE: Damion Miller, of course. I like Octavius Evans a lot. I have to name myself because I’m very versatile and can play many positions. Just saying. I think Omar Manning is really good. Jeffrey Okudah. Eno Benjamin is really good. K.D. Nixon is short and quick. (Holland)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dylan Moses was a household name on the recruiting trail before he even took a high school course. Sometimes middle-school phenoms peak too early and drop off when they get to high school. But not Moses. Now a five-star outside linebacker at IMG Academy (Fla.), Moses is one of the most sought after recruits in the country. And the scary thing is he’s only getting better. In fact, IMG Academy head coach Kevin Wright believes "the sky's the limit" for his new star. “Dylan is a special talent,” Wright said. “He’s a guy that you look at physically, and he looks like a grown man. He does some things in the weight room that grown men do. When you see a guy squatting 500 for reps and power cleaning more than 350, that’s impressive. One is lower body strength and one is explosive strength. “He has the ability to do that and convert it on the football field. I think the greatest thing with him is that he’s had the opportunity to come in and concentrate on playing linebacker.”

It’s hard to find faults in Moses’ game. After all, many consider Moses the top recruit in the country. But Wright said there is always room to grow and added that Moses is far from reaching his ceiling. “He has to continue to be more detailed at his position,” Moses said. “In the past he’s done everything. He’s played linebacker and running back and has returned kicks. We play him at Will and Mike so he has to continue to evolve as a linebacker and play fast.” Moses is doing just that at IMG Academy. After transferring from University Lab (La.) this offseason, Moses has been able to work specifically on perfecting his craft at IMG Academy, which offers a variety of skill specific training programs. “I’ve seen him grow in his ability to process run-pass reads and just his ability as a linebacker,” Wright said. “I think early on he was just out there playing. With more reps, he’s been able to hone his ability to read keys and become a better linebacker.”

Moses currently has a Top 5 of Alabama, LSU, Texas, UCLA and USC. Alabama and LSU are rumored to be the frontrunners in his recruitment, but Moses recently named Texas his leader. Wright didn’t find that too difficult to believe and added that he has nothing but respect for Texas and head coach Charlie Strong. “I saw (Strong) at Louisville and he has Florida roots,” Wright said. “Just following his career, he’s a man of integrity. He’s going to do things right. It’s the University of Texas. It’s one those elite places likes Ohio State or Florida or Florida State.” (Holland)

Horns247 Nightly Notes: Tidbits on DB Recruiting

— Five-star Grayson (GA) cornerback Deangelo Gibbs plans to make a commitment late in his senior season or after. Gibbs wants to make all five officials before coming to a conclusion. He is expected to visit Texas this summer.

— North Texas is the latest school to extend an offer to four-star Mansfield athlete Saiid Adebo. Texas recently offered the versatile prospect and is courting him a cornerback.

— Fast-rising Nacogdoches cornerback Josh Thompson added new offers from Houston and Texas Tech today. Thompson plans on camping with Texas this summer and is optimistic an offer will come his way.

— Four-star 2018 Prestonwood Christian cornerback Verone McKinley III received an offer from Alabama today. McKinley plans to camp with Texas this summer and could be nearing an offer.

— Four-star 2018 Sachse safety Isaiah Humphries notched a new offer from Northwestern. Humphries visited Texas for junior back in February and is on the Longhorns’ radar.

EJ Holland:

Robert Beal (Fox DE) is still high on Texas. Creed Humphrey (C/G) is in the mix. I know Josh Clarke (OLB) has some interest. But things don't look so great on the OOS front. I think you might see some more Florida offers go out in the near future. But it appears locking down the state is a priority.

Jason Higdon:

Will we see Texas do any OOS satellite camps in California, Georgia, NOLA, Florida, etc.?

Some talks Texas would partner with Florida. Texas would go to the state of Florida for two and Texas would have Florida come to Texas for two. Right now, not sure if that is going to happen or not. I believe you will see Texas more than likely hold two in the state of Texas, and that could be the end of it this recruiting season.

What is the status of JK Dobbins recruitment? Ever since he committed to Ohio State, it's been really quiet on him. Is he firm to them or do we still have a shot?

Yes, Texas still has a shot at JK Dobbins. Some of these early verbal pledges to these OOS schools tend to diminish the closer NSD comes. That may not entirely be the case with JK, but I believe you will see him visit Texas moving forward. As long as kids are visiting, they are not 100% committed imo. That goes for anyone committed to Texas as well.

Who, in your opinion, are the best five players Texas has a realistic chance to land this cycle?

Dylan Moses – Speed, Strength, and Toughness-- Where do you want Moses to play? Do you want him to score touchdowns as a running back? Do you want him to play with speed sideline to sideline at linebacker? Do you want him to rush the passer? Not many are like this young man. He does so many things at an extremely high level, and he could be a Sunday-guy on either side of the ball. He has the rare combination of size, speed, strength, athleticism, and toughness. A quick-twitch athlete.

Marvin Wilson – Size and Strength.-- Wilson is a massive defensive line prospect who dominates at the point of attack. Possesses the strength and power to overwhelm most opponents at the high school level. Tall, long-armed, thick-trunked. Consistently gets off blocks to make plays vs. the run and as a pass-rusher. Powerful bull-rusher, sometimes even when doubled. Explosion off the ball looked noticeably better on junior tape compared to sophomore film. Pursues well for such a large interior defender. Potentially scheme-versatile as even-front 3-technique DT and multi-position prospect in an odd front. Can play a bit too high at times because of his height. While pursuit ability is impressive, can sometimes (understandably) get off-balance laterally. Must be ready to acclimate to a significant jump in competition going from private school football in Texas (a state ruled by public schools) to Power Five college level. Overall, one of the top prospects in Texas - and the nation - in the 2017 cycle. - Gabe Brooks

Anthony Hines –Athleticism, Frame and hitting ability -- Hines is a prospect who brings a lot of the qualities to the table that you are looking for in a top-tier linebacker prospect. He can play sideline-to-sideline, and he will also deliver booming hits. He is a versatile prospect who could play middle linebacker or outside linebacker once he arrives in college and it is that scheme versatility that has helped him secure one of the nation's most elite offer lists. He is always around the football and collected crazy stats as a junior in 2015. - Greg Powers

Jeffrey Okudah – Instincts, Size, and toughness -- We like Okudah's game because he's just a great all-around football player. SGP has lined him up in some different positions, and he has played passionately at all of them. He will likely project out as a jumbo safety by the time he is done growing, but has the coverage skills and experience as a junior playing extensively at cornerback. He is long and muscular with great explosion. He can tackle well in space and tracks down faster backs with relative ease. Good coverage abilities as well as he spent a lot of time at cornerback and had the ability to play one-on-one coverage against some of the top receivers in the nation. - Greg Powers

Baron Browning – Frame, Blitzing Ability, Aggressiveness -- Browning is a big and physical presence on the field, especially intimidating at the linebacker position where you just do not see many guys with his size playing standing up. He missed much of his sophomore season but bounced back with a strong junior year that saw him pile up a ton of honors and accolades. He moves all around the Kennedale defense. He will play up on the line of scrimmage as an edge rusher, and he will move to the middle to stop the run. He shows a high acumen for playing against the pass, which is rare for a linebacker with his size. Could play a range of positions: outside linebacker, middle backer or defensive end. - Greg Powers

Top 10 players in the state of Texas this cycle?

If you ask me this each week, I will more than likely have a different top 10 list. Today it would look like this.

Marvin Wilson
Anthony Hines
Jeffrey Okudah
Baron Browning
Lagaryonn Carson
Walker Little
Brock Wright
Chevin Calloway
Toneil Carter, Jr
Sam Ehlinger

The schools running for browning services. In your opinion is Texas number 1 or have they fallen behind? I truly believe he will be a Longhorn, in the end; he loves strong. But long way to go. Ohio state is the team I fear and most concerned about.

Well said sir and I feel the same way today.

If the star rankings stayed like they were today. How many 5* players does Texas sign in your opinion

I believe in this class you will see three on NSD.

Does Texas sign any OOS skill position guys this year?

They have a chance with running back AJ Davis. He should visit over the summer and then we will see how things progress from there if at all. The only other skill player with an offer from OOS is WR Devonta Smith. I do not believe Texas will have a legitimate shot with Smith even with recent success in Louisiana.

Does Buechele have an IV of muscle milk at all times and are there any updates how he is doing?

Players are off right now. Shane is going to be just fine – Goal will be around 200-205 come August.

Is the staff interested in Arizona WDE Jalen Harris?

Most people like him at Wide Receiver. The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder from Mesa (AZ) Desert Ridge High School. Offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado State, Illinois, Iowa State, Oregon State, San Diego State. Texas has extended nine verbal offers at this time. They will land three defensive ends, but Jalen Harris is not going to be one of them.

Where does Texas stand with Will Farrar? Are we at the top of his list, and if not who are our biggest competitors for his services?

Texas will not go down this path sir. He will end up somewhere other than Texas in my opinion.

O/U on Avg. Star rating at the end of 3.7 (2 5s, 12 4s, eight 3s)?

I am going to lean with over the 3.7 average star ranking on NSD.

Did Browning enjoy tOSU?

I have not caught up to him about the trip. I can tell you if he made the trip he enjoyed it for sure!

Is he close with Okudah friends-wise? Meaning could they influence each other's decision?

At the end of the day, the kids do what's best for each other. Yes, they can impact each other but not to the point of going to a school they were not seriously considering to begin with. Neither one of those kids is going to Ohio State because the other decides that’s what he wants to do. Ohio State is a serious threat because of the success and coach.

Does Dobbins know those guys personally?

I have no clue

Getting worried seems like kids rarely go OOS unless there are others from TX they know (see Jordan Elliott). Wondering if Urban is trying to package these guys.

Urban is recruiting the top players in the country. A few of them just so happen to be in Texas. I am sure Ohio State and Urban Meyer are working that angle. All great recruiting coaches would be doing the same thing.

How do they identify players they want to recruit??

The film, friends, coaches, recruits etc…you name it, and it happens. Once they are made aware of a kid they watch his film. Some jump off the film right away, and they offer. Others, they need to see in person and watch them work.

First, contact with recruits?

They are allowed to text the kids now. Usually, first contact comes from the high school coach getting the kid on the phone.

Correspondence with recruits. Obviously, he talks by phone, texts, facetime's with players. Anything unique or interesting here??

There is no secret formula it's simply hard work. Creating the line of communication (LOC) and keeping it open as long and frequently as possible.

How does he conduct background checks on players and people close to the recruit like family and handlers?? Just feel like character issues are critical going forward because of mess at Baylor!!

They have a system of checks and balances in place – they do as much checking on kids as possible.

Are recruits subject to drug screening??

I am not aware of this but do not believe they are.

How does Charlie make sure recruits are on board with core values??

You must get to know people before you can understand what they are all about –relationships is the key to recruiting

How are coaches allowed to determine whether a recruit has a decent shot at qualifying academically at Texas?

They must work with their compliance departments AND school counselors, teachers, head coaches etc….There is no easy way around it you must do your due diligence, and even then you might not be able to get a kid into school because at the end of the day its up to one person, the recruit

Clemson recruiting staff got a lot of praise for the 21st-century process used to recruit. What does Texas recruiting have/use to compete??

All the bells and whistles mean little in my opinion. It comes down to three things with relationships, location and playing time. It will always come down to those three factors despite what anyone tells you.

I know your opinion on our win-loss record this year. Given your assumption and call that we beat ND to start out. Is winning even more key than normal this year, to land what you're calling Charlie's strongest recruiting class from a "rating" perspective?

I think so yes. It’s time for Texas to turn it around on the field and I believe through recruiting they have some of the players in place to do that very thing starting this season.

Or still key ingredient being relationships driven?

Its always about relationships above all else but sooner or later you must start putting it together on the field of play.

Higs do you think Texas will go into Cali this cycle?

I do not.

Where do you feel Texas recruiting is currently versus a year ago?

I believe they are ahead of the game –Texas right now is on an equal playing field regarding knowing who the recruits are and being on them at least as soon as other schools. That was not the case the first couple of years because they were playing catch up mostly.

How confident are you on a scale of 1-10 in regards to your prediction that this class will have the highest player rating average of CS first three classes?

I think that is going to happen as long as they win some games in 2016. It comes down to relationships, location and playing time. Charlie now needs to go back up the message they have been selling and it will happen.

I read on another website that Marvin Wilson wants to see Texas win at least nine games, and then he will seriously consider us. Assuming that's true, do you think 9+ wins makes Texas the favorite for him? Or does it just get us a seat at the finalist table?

So if Texas wins eight games, Marvin Wilson won't consider Texas? Putting a number on some wins, they must have to equal landing a certain player to me is kind of silly. Yes, Texas needs to turn this thing around compared to the last two years no question, but Marvin is already seriously considering Texas. The challenge for him is the amount of DL Texas landed last year. That was always the biggest challenge in my mind in regards to Marvin Wilson. It hits one of my key three factors of playing time.

I know the staff does their due diligence when handing out early offers, and rightfully so, but I expected there to be a few more 2018 offers during this evaluation period. Who are a few kids that you feel are in line from the '18 class to receive offers from Texas?

That is a great question and one I am not able to answer right now. The focus is all on 2017. When the staff was on the road, they had numerous questions/answers regarding some 2018 players when they met with the high school coaches. They take those names back to Texas –The entire staff will watch, and they will make some decisions on a few early 2018 offers basically, but that’s not the primary focus. They will try and get those key 2018 kids to a camp over the summer or the satellite camp so they can see them in person and watch them work before extending the offer.

Hearing anything new on Creed Humphrey or Stephan Zabie?

Do not expect to see Creed Humphrey at Texas. Zabie is a camp kid I think. Mattox went to the school during the evaluation period to get a look at the kid. He would need to come to camp in June or July and impress the staff I believe to get an offer. He is on the board, and they are well aware of him so if no offer comes its because they don’t feel he is good enough.

Patterson is neg-recruiting the hell outta Chuck! They need to hush up that little pest this fall.

"Where does Texas stand with Will Farrar? Are we at the top of his list, and if not who are our biggest competitors for his services?

Texas will not go down this path sir. He will end up somewhere other than Texas in my opinion."

This is strange... wonder what the staff knows that we dont. Rumor was he recently had shoulder surgery, but lots of recruits go through injuries like that. Must be something else.

24/7 believes the following guys could receive offers in the next day or two.

2017
WR, RJ Sneed, Cypress Ranch
OL, Alan Ali, Keller Timber Creek
DT, Josh Rogers, Houston Christian
CB, Myles Jones, Magnolia West
CB, Josh Thompson, Nacogdoches

2018
QB, Jalen Mayden, Sachse
RB, Craig Williams, Crosby
WR, Josh Moore, Yoakum
LB, Alston Orji, Rockwall
CB, Verone McKinley III, Plano Prestonwood Christian
S, Jordan Moore, Yoakum

24/7 saying UT isn't going to pursue RB Najee Harris and RB Toneil Carter as hard as was previously reported.

A lack of interest is probably the reason why.

RB JK Dobbins remains the sole focus while the staff is also trying to get RB AJ Davis of Lakeland, FL to visit.

EJ Holland: Some others have said he may not be a take. Thoughts? They want to see how he does this fall.

Will Farrar didn’t participate in Fort Bend Travis’ spring game last week. Farrar is currently recovering from a shoulder injury and working hard in rehab. However, Farrar is ahead of schedule and hasn’t been affected much on the recruiting trail. A number of top programs are pursuing the three-star offensive tackle, including Texas, which is set to host him for an unofficial visit in the near future. “Texas is one of the schools standing out to me,” Farrar said. “They are around the top of my list. I’m going up there in a couple of weeks, so we’ll see what happens. I just want to talk to Coach (Charlie) Strong and Coach (Matt) Mattox and go from there.”

Farrar has built a strong relationship with Mattox, who actually recruited him during his time at Tulsa. “I’ve known Coach Mattox since he was at Tulsa,” Farrar said. “So we’ve been in contact with each other for a long time. He’s a great guy and a great coach. He brings a lot of energy. Right now, he just wants me to get healthy.” Along with Texas, Farrar wants to make visits to Colorado, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Missouri, North Carolina and Texas A&M this summer.

Farrar does not plan on making a commitment until after his senior season. He wants to make all five officials before coming to a final decision. Though things could change, Farrar is planning to graduate in December and enroll early. “I decided that my sophomore year,” Farrar said. “A goal of mine has always been to play early. That’s really my main goal. I want to get acclimated to college life — academics, playbook, and workouts. I really want to compete early.” At 6-foot-5, 290 pounds, Farrar is ranked as the No. 14 offensive guard in the country and No. 50 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports Composite.

Per TFB:
Taquon Graham: As most know, Temple (TX) DE Taquon Graham will no longer be committing this Friday like he originally planned. Graham was known as a Texas lean heading in to this week so it obviously wasn’t the most welcomed news by Texas fans when he announced he would be pushing back his commitment date.

I talked to a source close to Graham and was told, “Taquon just wants to make sure he makes the right decision and doesn’t want to end up committing then flipping.”

There has been some talk that there has been some negative recruiting towards Texas in this one, and while that could’ve been a small factor in Graham pushing his announcement back most times negative recruiting backfires on the school doing it. I was told Texas should continue to feel good on where they sit with Graham as of today, and TCU is likely the only other school with a shot at Graham right now. I was also told that Texas A&M has been pushing but Graham hasn’t shown much interest in the Aggies.

Graham did confirm to Super K that he will be visiting Oklahoma this summer. We are told the only other school he seems interested in seeing is USC but there is no word on whether that visit will happen.

I still like where Texas stand here. – (Andrew)

Josh Thompson: There aren’t many recruits who are having a better week than Nacogdoches (TX) DB Josh Thompson, who has eclipsed 20 offers receiving offers from the likes of TCU and Texas Tech. Thompson told me that he has been in contact with Texas DB coach Clay Jennings and plans to camp at Texas this summer and feels optimistic about his chances based on his conversations with Jennings.

Texas is obviously very much interested in Kary Vincent Jr and Chevin Calloway but with a good camp, Thompson could be in line for an offer down the road. At the Nike Regional Opening, he certainly demonstrated the type of athleticism and size Texas looks for (measured in at 6’0 180 lbs and clocked a 4.57 laser 40 and 38 inch vert).

We are told that Texas would like to bring in three defensive backs in this class. – (Andrew)

– UPDATE (3:30 pm): Texas has offered one of the states hottest prospects this afternoon. Elkins (TX) OLB Kenneth Murray. He told me a while back that Texas was an offer he was really wanting so I’m sure we’ll see him on campus this summer.

LB Kenneth Murray (Fort Bend Elkins). Already got a couple of CBs to UT. Before being offered by UT, he was considered an OU lean. Multiple people now seem to think Texas is the overwhelming favorite to land the fast-rising linebacker/safety out of Fort Bend Elkins. Supposedly this was the offer he was waiting for.
