Has anyone ever sat and evaluated the distribution of key drivers for four and five star recruits to end up at one particular university vs another (assuming there are many available options from which to choose)?

I'm wondering what percentage would be weighed on categories such as historical performance in the last year or five or ten, production of NFL drafts, brand recognition, location, playing time, position of choice, competition to start, facilities, fan base, and all that. Or - perhaps how much is just a beauty pageant subject to the frivolous whims of popular perception.

Obviously some deviation of these figures would characterized by subjective bias of the player themselves. But, there has to be a general basis that has proven consistent over time which could be used as a representative framework, right?

Thoughts? Wild speculations?!

Interesting exercise, to be sure. The factors you mentioned (along with, one would think, perceived momentum, both in recruiting and on-field production) are an excellent start. I suppose getting to any sort of meaningful matrix would necessitate an extensive survey process of the recruits themselves.

Perhaps Alabama and Clemson could serve as great case studies assessing trends over the last decade.

I think each university has their strengths and weaknesses but to pretend that dirty tactics aren't a a part of recruiting would be naïve. Money helps drive recruits to certain schools. To pretend schools like Georgia, Auburn, and Aggie aren’t offering some extra incentives is living with your head in the sand.

I think some kids are interested in academics and some Facilities. I think the main driver for any five-star recruit would be development though. Every five-star recruit and most four-star recruits main goal is to be developed to one day play in the NFL. Which ever school can help facilitate that it’s going to be the premier school. That’s currently Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson.

I’m sure the recruits each put together a spreadsheet with the weighting and scoring for each key driver by school, and then give their commitment to the school with the highest total score.
