This is an NBA story that deserves it's own thread. Jerry West was a true legend there's a reason that his silhouette is a part of the NBA logo. One of my earliest memories was game 7 against the Celtics. Playing on practically one leg he scored 44 points but the Lakers lost by 2 points. Back then they had a saying the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. The agony was Jerry West cause he was truly heroic.

But he had a remarkable career and at the end he won an NBA title. He was an AA at West Virginia and was on the Olympic team that won the gold medal. But he was a huge success as general manager and president of the Lakers. He drafted Magic Johnson and hired Pat Riley and the rest was history. Later on he made some trades and drafted Kobe Bryant signed Shaq as a free agent, and hired Phil Jackson and the Lakers had another great run.

He was such a perfectionist that he was a tortured soul. Even when he won he fretted over winning the next year. Gold medal winner, NBA champion, and one of the two most successful general managers in NBA history.

And here's to you Mr West
He was 86

He was an asshole. But he was my kind of asshole.
Dude was one of a kind.
