Remodeling the stadium and other things

All of us want Herman to succeed. Yes, the bottom line is wins, but while Texas does have nice facilities, they've fallen behind other schools, and UT should be the upper echelon when it comes to any and everything. Give Herman a chance, FB. If he doesn't win, and win big, then he deserves blame, but until then, we, as Longhorn fans should support him.

Wasn't talking about him, was talking about all the money not gonna make us win faster, Hermans got his chance from me, If we need million dollar stuff to get FB players, that's not good cause it will never stop regardless who is coach, we have always won with lesser facilities, get the players too spoiled , they won't wanna play

Texas needs those types of facilities to compete with the Jones' of the CFB world. Fact is, the LSU's, Bama's, Ohio State's, etc. have nicer facilities than Texas right now, and they aren't spoiled and they play just fine.

Whether the W's come or not the facilities needed to be upgraded. Money has to be spent sooner than later or it just keeps getting further and further behind. Just because dial up allowed you to get on the internet doesn't mean technology should stop. Same thing!

It happens everywhere these days. OU just redid their locker room, weight room, lounge etc for the 2017. Was it in disrepair? Hell no, it's all about trying to keep up just to impress these social media driven kids.

Still looking forward to seeing DKR as a complete bowl. Someday. That should help with the home field advantage, in terms of the dB level.

Back when DKR was there. LOL!

Every time FBH post I imagine him thinking we still play on dirt with leather helmets on. Times have changed it's not the 50's, 60's, 70's etc...

Idk ........ I mean I'm sure it'll help a little, but there are way smaller stadiums that are 10x louder than DKR. We're just not a crazy rabid fan base that screams its head off for 4 quarters. Texas fans are more chill, which I've always liked - but it doesn't create the most hostile road environment, and I'm not sure the structure of the stadium will change that significantly. Could be wrong though.

Well, at least I got to see Texas when it was a Dynasty in FB, unless history repeats itself you young guys are gonna be in trouble, at least it was real FB then , not dancing with the 5 stars players, they was asked to play here back then if you was lucky...but, new facilities don't win games at the end of the day...

The over the top facilities don't make the Alabama football players too spoiled to play hard. Not saying money spent on facilities guarantees anything, just saying it doesn't hurt when recruiting.

Texas fans used to come early and stay late and yell like hell for the whole game. It is the fans that make the atmosphere, not the damned building.
Oh, I definitely agree with the sentiment that we fans need to be louder (esp. when Texas is on D), but acoustics make a huge difference, too. Adding the north end improved things, but DKR-TxMemorial needs to be a bowl.

Texas football program for many years produce more revenue than any team in college football including the Great Alabama.Based on that fact alone why should we have substandard facilities to anyone. You need to look the best because you are the Best Its a game and business all in one package, sell it !!

Not doubting you getting to see some of the best Texas had to offer. I'll agree with you on that but it's 2017 and your using a computer times have obviously changed. Football has changed and recruiting has as well. I can tell you love UT ball but it will never be 1960 again.

Progress makes sense. Doing nothing makes no sense. Competition makes sense. Upgrading the facilities is progress and makes us more competitive in recruiting. We have the coaches, now let's get the "Jimmys & Joes."

It's all about the Jimmy's and Joe's. Gotta make them feel special these days, more so than the past apparently

Well, I see your generation doing real good in FB, all these wins and such hard to believe 2017 and hasn't been to a bowl or won very much, computers has actually messed FB up, it leaves out the Human facto...and turns it into a machine, wish the hell it was 1960, wouldn't have to put up with this losing sh*t Texas won't win another NC for 7 or 8 yrs, its gonna take Herman at least 5 to get going and system in place..and it won't ever be 2017 again either!

Just fyi to everyone--- I haven't heard a peep out of Belmont. Nada. Zip.

It's like they've gone into lockdown mode. No clue why---- it's not like we are now the care taker of national championship pixie dust or something.

If you're the University of Texas you ought to be pretty darn depressed that Baylor has facilities as nice as ours. And I'm not exaggerating I've seen the facilities on videos.

As so many people above have already said facilities matter. It's what the kids want to see when they visit. The more impressed they are the better the chances of them wearing burnt orange jerseys.

The only thing that concerns is that at Texas the alums that open up their checkbooks want to hang around the fb team more which means the coach has to spend more time away from the team. If TH can manage this we'll be fine.

Facilities don't win FB games, players and coaches do, if you got to have multi million dollar things to win, well no wonder all the teams that don't aren't winning, well then Baylor got a river running outside the stadium, but, where is our river? A new weight room eyc is not gonna make them win games or catch passes or run for TD's, Hell we oughta just start giving all their Daddy's a new John Deer and then that's no guarantee...are we playing FB or we in a Big 12 Construction contest?

Facilities haven't been updated for a while...UT hasn't won in a while. Coincidence? Shit facilities go hand in hand with a shit program.

Sorry to say FB but if players wins games and the best players choose to stay at the Four Seasons instead of the Holiday Inn we are in trouble.

Winning is not all about facilities, but they do matter. I understand the kick back from old timers who think they need to be lifting boulders instead of weights, but other than that I don't get why someone wouldn't be on board with it. It doesn't guarantee wins so we should just ignore it?

Besides with the figures I've read this won't put us in any over the top category, it's just going to be some updates.

Texas won't win another NC for 7 or 8 yrs,

We had not won an NC in years until Mack Brown became HC. You know the guy you dog any chance you get and also upgraded our facility. FBH I know you're from the good ole days and I respect that. DK gave you and UT championships and that's awesome I really hope we can start winning again. Now a days though no one wants to work with old product. Not even coaches!

You're right.

I went to a lot of games in the '60s, went to HS in Austin and got the knothole tickets for $2.00 I believe it was, even for the '63 National Championship year. Only home game I remember being really loud was the Baylor game, otherwise like HD said UT fans have been pretty chill.

FBH, no one is saying that having elite facilities is the only thing that matters for winning -- or that it's even close to the most important thing. Even so, it does matter. Why else do you think Saban, Meyer, and Swinney are adamant that their schools maintain facilities at the cutting edge?

I believe its a keeping up with the Jones thing, your neighbor buys something and you just have to buy it to look even with him or stay even with him, If a new weight room makes them win a NC , well, why not? I can't believe its been the old weights that's had us losing the last 4 yrs, damn we shoulda bought them earlier! We would have played Bama for the NC instead of Clemson.

It's about recruiting above all else, FBH, not about "magic weights." The idea is to sign better players.

Facilities are far from the most important thing, but top-flight facilities provide some marginal benefit to a coach in selling his program. Why wouldn't you want Texas to have the best? Is it better that we continue to waste tens of millions on maintaining bureaucratic bloat (that is, an AD with roughly double the payroll of other big-name athletics programs) that does absolutely nothing to help us win games in any sport?
