Remodeling the stadium and other things

I believe its a keeping up with the Jones thing, your neighbor buys something and you just have to buy it to look even with him or stay even with him, If a new weight room makes them win a NC , well, why not? I can't believe its been the old weights that's had us losing the last 4 yrs, damn we shoulda bought them earlier! We would have played Bama for the NC instead of Clemson.

Simple question. If Alabama players slept in tents for four years and their football facilities rivaled that of a small high school in Alaska, do you truly think they'd still be landing the top class year after year?

Consultants -- also a pricey thing that helps the Nick Sabans of the world win. Having extra coaches on staff to dissect game film (and practice film) and do everything that a coach would do -- except interact with players. And be available to step up, whenever a coach decides to move on, or if a coach does something forcing us to let him go. There are medical gizmos, too, that enable coaches to know when to push the kids and when to lay off -- and that can save lives and more often it can keep kids available to play, and to excel on Saturday mornings or evenings or whenever it is that they're supposed to peak. The best in football helmets, although that technology isn't really "there" yet. The best turf, etc.

CFB or even excellent HSFB isn't a cheap thing. And the ways to spend money will continue to grow.

I'm not pro or con on this. I see it from both angles.

We live in a world where people are starving, cold in the winters, and (increasingly) baked in the summers. How ethical is it for us to use so many resources on something that's just fun? We spend money on a bigger and bigger military, and turn away the hungry -- even the homeless in our own neighborhoods, as well as the exceptionally unfortunate in Africa, S/SE Asia, Latin America, Caribbean.

I love CFB, and would not want to see it go away, but we should not forget that money that goes into gold-plated toilets & more Alexa & Roku gizmos around the house could be going to something more meaningful.

Turning College FB into NFL, what they doing...75% of this kids will never see the NFL, like Mack had the players that was riding the scolly and didn't want to play, your buying the kid is what your doing , one way or another, money, facilities, women, same difference, College FB is dead now, they turned it into mini NFL.

College football is big business and to get to the top or remain at the top, schools have to keep up their facilities.

College football is dead? Hardly. It's bigger, stronger, better, faster, and more profitable than ever.

The Biggest money maker on earth..LOL

Facilities don't win FB games, players and coaches do, if you got to have multi million dollar things to win, well no wonder all the teams that don't aren't winning, well then Baylor got a river running outside the stadium, but, where is our river? A new weight room eyc is not gonna make them win games or catch passes or run for TD's, Hell we oughta just start giving all their Daddy's a new John Deer and then that's no guarantee...are we playing FB or we in a Big 12 Construction contest?
It's this line of thinking that landed a HC like Charlie Strong at the 40 Acres just long enough to perpetuate mediocrity for another five years or so. Although I don't expect FBH to get it, most everyone else understands that, while most programs offer many of the same selling points, facilities become a significant variable because they project the perceived quality of a program and a higher level of commitment to it by the school and big money donors. Alabama is a blueprint for success - they know how to do it. Now that being said, at least one list ranks Texas among the top facilities in the country, so since having not personally been in them, I have to wonder if this is being used as an excuse by some.

According to ESPN, these schools have the top facilities in the nation:
SEC: Texas A&M, Alabama
ACC: Clemson, Florida State
Big Ten: Ohio State, Michigan
Big 12: Oklahoma, Texas
Pac-12: Oregon, USC

Nice list, JB. Source?

A safer weight room is going to minimize the chance of injury -- including ones that you never hear about.

A more efficiently laid-out weight room -- and one with more space & stations -- is going to promote muscle (and bone) growth or even endurance and cardiovascular health. It's going to reduce wait times, and improve movement from station to station. Players are more likely to stay hydrated, and less likely to pick up staph or other infections. Why? because of how the facilities are arranged, maintained and kept clean.

A fancier, cooler weight room may nullify any small recruiting advantage another school may have had over Texas. If it matters to a kid or his parent, it matters to us. Helicopters don't matter, but weight rooms & training staff definitely do. It helps prepare some for NFL greatness. For most, though, it just communicates that the NFL possibility is there; the facilities at Texas will not hinder them from their dream, realistic or not.

There are also technological additions you can make to facilities, to improve competition between players and to encourage individuals to compete against themselves. Make it easier for players to keep track of personal bests. See how they compare against starters, past and present. Assign points / scores for particular efforts. Detect when they should back off, for players who are likely to push themselves into dangerous medical situations. Or the flip side, for lazy players.
