Revive Rivalry With Texas A&M

I don't hardly ever post over here but I do like to read up about you guys. Anyway, I read an article yesterday stating that your new AD is wanting to revive games with Texas A&M. Was wondering what the fan base felt about this.

I'm for it but afraid it's going to go the way of OU/Nebraska which used to be huge. Or UT/Arkansas.

Of course aggy doesn't belong in the same sentence as any of those 4 in terms of accomplishments.

I do not really miss them that much and enjoy reading the scores when they play SEC teams and have doubts the 7.5 million dolllar coach will make that much difference.

Only reason that game should be played is money. I hope the series is dead. Two of the biggest, richest schools in America are fine alone. They simply don't need each other. All either one needs to do is not suck, which neither can accomplish.

I think we will end up playing them at some point, but not so much to revive the rivalry game, but because of the bowls. If that happens, it will either put a spark in the debate or kill it all together. Personally, I have no desire to make the decision to schedule a game with them. They walked away from the Big 12 and the State of Texas because they thought the SEC would be their road to winning an NC, doesn't seem to prove that at all. $crew them.

No interest. Don’t miss playing them even a little bit.

If we’re going to resurrect a dead (and lopsided) rivalry, I’d rather play Arkansas again. At least that program has accomplished something in living memory.

Actually our rivalry with AR is even more lopsided than the a&m rivalry. It's almost a 3 to 1 advantage in Texas favor. If you go back and see the history of the TX/AR game you'll see that TX always won it mattered. And one last thing if there's one team that a&m has pushed around since they've joined the SEC it's AR.

How many times are we going to make a thread about this?

Not sure but it does get brought up with our new coach, new AD and now aggy new coach. It won't go away until someone (not fans) says WE (UT) will not play aggy ever again in football.

We no longer want to play in the pit of misery. The talking heads are already complaining that the SEC schedules to many cupcakes and adding the lornhorns to our schedule would only make them worse.

I would think casual fans would like it because it's a historic rivalry. The fan base that lives on internet boards are more die hard and probably think aggy can go screw themselves.
I don’t,I miss that game on thanksgiving and they do to

As a fan of college football in general, I’d like to see it. I think most of the CFB nation would like to see this happen.

I get Texas’ reluctance in the manner, but I’d like the PTB to set their egos aside to prevail on this.

The cupcake rivalry renewal would be if kansas played Mizzou in football. That will never happen. It's not because Mizzou left for the SEC. It's because ku can't afford to schedule an automatic "L" in the OOC schedule - even though nobody outside of Missouri would watch it anyway.

Game does not help us. Could only hurt. You have your rivalry so what's the point.

They've replaced burnt orange daddy with Roll Tide daddy
We have to beat LSU before Saban will adopt us. He can't be everyone's daddy.

If you got to have a daddy, it might as well be the The Daddy.

Well I guess you traded one daddy in for multiple daddy's

A hint of reality from Aggie there.

Don't let their excuses fool you, the very last thing on planet Earth the Ags want is to continue losing to Texas.

The Student Body at UT had a referendum vote on reviving the rivalry and I think it was about 97% in favor. I suspect it would be in favor at A&M, but probably more in the 60% range with casual fans voting yes. Most Aggies that are pretty big football fans would rather play Clemson, UCLA, etc in a non-conference game.

I call bullshit on that. Cite your reference material that shows this "referendum" or GTFO

Sorry, oldhorn2, I just had to like that.

Too bad for me, I guess, in that this thread shows me to be a "casual fan," as opposed to a "die hard." I don't care. The rivalry with A&M is something that CFB fans around the nation had some interest in. Sort of like Army vs. Navy. As a Horn, it was great to have it on Thanksgiving weekend every year. You got up for the RRS / RRR early in the season, and the Aggies later on, then a bowl. The exposure couldn't have hurt recruiting, either.

Rather than casual fan vs. die hard, I'd say forgiving vs. vengeful.

The article you linked below shows that essentially the same percentage of aggy students (within the margins of error if these polls were scientific, which they aren’t) would like to restart the rivalry.
