Ridgeway

Not surprised if true, although I think he'll be drafted late. We will be very weak up the middle next year.

So what round is he projected? If not in at least in round 3 then why?It looked to me he is not a finished product to hit the big time.It is one of the reasons I liked Ricky Williams as he could have gone but did not and was a real boost to the team that year. This team really needs him to stay.

One site has him projected as the no. 5 nose tackle in the upcoming draft. The no. 5 nose tackle went in the sixth round last year.

Maybe his family has some pressing financial issues. If not, it's not a very smart decision.

I wish he was staying, but I dont blame him for trying. I am always amazed at how so many people volunteer to help someone spend their money. You see it everywhere.Someone wins the lottery....or they get a big bonus....or get an inheritance ....folks come out of the wood work to tell them what they ought to do with the money. Most of those folks havnt a clue what to do with their own money, but that doesnt stop the advice.

I get your point. BUT - 21 year olds don't always make the best decisions, and certainly don't have the benefit of full life experience. SI ran an article a few years ago (link below) that 78% of NFL players file bankruptcy or are in financial stress with 2 years of retirement. 78%! It pains me to see these kids have the opportunity to get a leg up on life at an early age, then blow it all due to (a) being idiots, or (b) more likely, not having sufficient education on budgeting, financial management, etc. I don't know Mr. Ridgeway, his personal circumstances, his grades, etc. I do know he is a solid college DT, and based on what I have read, he has a chance, but no guaranty, of a job at the next level. All things being equal, the player is better off with another year of college experience with very few exceptions. Good luck Mr. Ridgeway in whatever you choose. My hope is you are looking at the long term.

I just don't see the logic. His family is either in financial dire straights or he feels his time at Texas is over for whatever reason. I don't see this ending well for Mr Ridgeway but I wish him the best.

The good news is at lease now we have a fighting chance of getting someone drafted. Hate to go two of the last 4 with no one getting drafted.

We still have Poona and Boyette they are both pretty darn good. but there is nothing behind them, I think Marcus Hutchins could move back and Hopefully Nelson will be there.

Then there are any freshmen that want immediate playing time, we could use them. DT has gone from a need of 1 or 2 guys to a need of 2 or 3 guys. One guy is easy, two guys is tough, But finding 3 quality guys is next to impossible. Especially for a team that just went 4-7 on the season.

Tired of this leaving for NFL crap, why did they ever come to college for? guess its the only way to get to the Pros..

Best of luck to him.

And hope the staff recognizes this glaring need and addresses it via guys on campus, transfers, and incoming recruits. Otherwise a key position will lead to holes in game play next year.

I think when a guy leaves under these circumstances (likely undrafted) that it's usually either financial issues or he isn't getting along with the staff.
