Texas junior Sam Ehlinger has been dealing with a minor rib injury and is being limited in practice during the bye week, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Ehlinger has been playing with the rib injury since Texas faced LSU in week two, according to my sources. It is unclear if he sustained the injury against Rice or during the loss against LSU. However, he has definitely played in three games since sustaining the injury.

As Ehlinger takes a backseat in practice this week, backup quarterback Casey Thompson will received more reps.

The good news for Texas is Ehlinger has not missed a snap due to the injury. Ehlinger battled through the injury against Oklahoma State and completed 20-of-28 passes for 281 yards, four touchdowns and one interception, while rushing 10 times for 71 yards, during the 36-30 victory.

In addition, Ehlinger is not expected to miss next week’s road game against West Virginia.

I will keep you posted if anything changes.
