I live in Portland, OR and we are only at the beginning of the crisis that Seattle and San Francisco are currently in the midst. As someone is watching it unfold, I've been continually mystified that they continue to call it a housing crisis, as if just last year the people living in tents were living in homes, when it is VERY obvious that it is a drug issue compounded by the lack of law enforcement.
What is the motivation of these city councils to pretend it is a housing issue instead of a drug issue?
I know Texas like to make fun of the West Coast liberals, I'm sure it will happen here, but I saw the Austin Homeless camping thread so I know this isn't just a west coast issue.
