1. What a fitting end to the season and almost certainly Charlie Strong's career at Texas. The Longhorns turned in yet another terrible, uninspired performance against a very average TCU team that was missing some of its top talent.
2. Shane Buechele has a bright future, but he has not looked right of late. I'm still not convinced he didn't suffer cracked ribs earlier in the season, as we heard but were never able to fully confirm. Buechele's final line was pretty bad: 16 of 39 for 218 yards with 1 interception.
3. I've been a fan of what Sterlin Gilbert has been able to accomplish in one year, but his offense has to be able to put up more than 9 points. That just can't happen. Texas is banged up, but who isn't at this point of the season?
It feels like opposing coaches have had the book on Gilbert's offense the past few weeks and are having little problem scheming to stop the Texas offense, which continues to lack creativity.
4. Is it just me, or does Texas seem to have a very high success rate when it actually throws to the middle of the field? Not sure why the offense rarely attacked that area all year.
5. Hey, Michael Dickson is good. His punt that was downed on the 3 yard line may have been the highlight of the day for Texas.
6. I said earlier in the week that the only way Texas could really have a clean break from Charlie Strong was if the Longhorns lost this game, which would quiet any cries that Strong needs to be brought back for a fourth year.
Well, the team was wonderfully successful at helping bring a clean break.
7. This was just sad watching this game. Change needs to be made and it's coming, but those players and coaches are going to be feeling some serious pain tonight. I genuinely do feel bad for those guys. It felt like I was watching a funeral of sorts in the fourth quarter.
8. Was I the only one watching the clock just wanting it to hit triple zeroes to put an end to a miserable season?
9. Trent Domingue was seen as a possible savior for UT's kicking game when it was announced he was transferring to Texas. I never bought it and after seeing him struggle at the open practices in the summer, I really had doubts. Unfortunately, the concerns were proven they were legit time and time again. Texas actually benched Domingue on Saturday ... not sure whey it took so long.
10. Texas' struggles on short-yardage situations was surprising. Not being able to get points on the drive when D'Onta Foreman was ruled down short of the goal line on fourth down was a big moment early in the game from a momentum standpoint.
11. Texas' inability to defend QB runs has been an issue all year. Kenny Hill exposed that again today.
12. TCU RB Darius Anderson was a guy the Texas coaches really liked and tried to get on late last year but they waited too long. Anderson looked damn good. Texas missed out on that one.
13. Man, I'm ready to report on a team that makes covering Texas football fun.
14. In case you missed my post Thursday, I was told by someone I trust that a member of the football staff had already cleaned out his office. Normally, on game weeks, I get word from a program source on the recruits who are expected in for the game. It was radio silence this week ... which could be yet another sign that things inside the football offices have pretty much been shut down.
15. The Texas administration has done its best - as always - to make the coaching decisions and transition easy, but it's time to quit overthinking things. Make the announcement of Strong's departure on Saturday morning and lock up Tom Herman before the end of the weekend. This isn't rocket science.
Player of the game: D'Onta Foreman went over 2,000 yards on the season. It's a shame his stellar season has pretty much been wasted.
Best position group: We'll give it to the running backs. Why not?
This game was over when ... TCU marched 97 yards with ease to score a TD and extend its lead to 24-9 in the fourth quarter. Ball game.
Best decision: Feeding Foreman and getting him his 2,000 yards.
Head-scratcher: 18-Wheeler package on second-and-18? Swoopes did get nice yardage on his first carry, but that was a curious decision.
What's next? Well, we're done with football, but it should be one hell of a weekend.
