– Jamar King | JUCO DT: We recently introduced you to May JUCO grad, defensive tackle Jamar King (Mendocino C.C.). King holds an offer from Alabama and is also being recruited by Ohio State. We’ve gotten word that the Texas staff likes King and may be close to pulling the trigger on an offer. I spoke with King yesterday and he said that his transcript was sent to Texas and that he’s been told that they will look over his transcript to ensure he will have the necessary credits to graduate in May. If all looks good, I expect an offer to happen soon. While King is being courted by other big programs, he’s let us know that he definitely sees the opportunity to play right away at Texas. – (Super K)
– Obi Eboh: There has been a lot of talk about Southlake Carroll (TX) CB commit Obi Eboh, who was recently offered by Stanford. Eboh and his family are very serious about academics and Stanford seemed like the only school that would challenge Texas for the talented CB. It’s been a bit up in the air as to whether Eboh would stick with his original plan and visit Texas this weekend or visit Stanford instead. As I tweeted out last night, we got some clarity on that matter. Eboh is expected to visit Stanford this weekend and Texas on the following weekend on January 23rd.
I was told after Eboh was offered by Stanford that his mother would likely push her son to Stanford and as most know in recruiting, you don’t want to be going against a mom because they usually get their way. However, Obi certainly likes Texas. – (Andrew)
– Zach Shackelford: I feel like I’ve been talking about Belton (TX) Kansas State OL commit Zach Shackelford a lot lately, but I’ve got another update for you guys on him as he is less than a week away from enrolling at a school. It will be a crazy day in the Shackelford house on Thursday when the dead period ends. On Thursday morning Kansas State HC Bill Snyder and OL coach Charlie Dickey will be in Belton for an in-home visit. Later that day, Texas HC Charlie Strong and OL coach Matt Mattox will be in town to do an in-home visit with the Shackelford family.
There is one thing Shackelford wants to do when he arrives at either Texas or Kansas State, he told me, “I really want to play as a freshman.” He will have a chance to play early at either school since Texas, who likes him at center is losing their starting and backup centers. Kansas State, who likes him at guard, is losing their two starting guards to graduation. When I asked if he prefers playing center or guard in college he said he didn’t mind but said, “I’ve always been intrigued with center. It’s always been something I have wanted to do”.
The recruiting madness will begin on Thursday and continue until he enrolls at a school on Monday, but I continue to feel more and more confident he will be in Austin to stay when Monday rolls around. – (Andrew)
– Official Visit List: Tons of talent is expected to be in Austin as we start the final sprint until NSD. I want everyone to tell me out of all the recruits that are expected to be on Texas’ campus this weekend, who is the one that you want to be apart of Charlie Strong’s 2016 class the most.
Southlake Carroll (TX) ATH Lil’Jordan Humphrey – Texas is in his final 2 along with Cal and will announce his commitment on January 30th.
Nacogdoches (TX) S Brandon Jones – Down to Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Baylor but this is a Longhorns-Aggies battle.
Flower Mound Marcus (TX) DE Andrew Fitzgerald – Committed to Texas and isn’t taking any other visits.
Manvel (TX) WR Reggie Hemphill – Committed to Texas and may take a visit or two but don’t worry about him flipping.
Manvel (TX) S Deontay Anderson – Has a Top 3 of Texas, Ole Miss, and LSU. I believe Ole Miss leads as of today.
Lewisville (TX) OL Denzel Okafor– Committed to Texas and won’t be taking any other visits.
Temple (TX) WR Davion Curtis – Committed to Texas after flipping from Georgia and is 100% solid.
Aldine Davis (TX) LB Jeffery McCulloch – Looking like a Texas-Notre Dame battle with Alabama, Stanford, and Texas A&M on the outside looking in.
Belton (TX) OL Zach Shackelford – Committed to Kansas State and will either enroll at Texas or Kansas State on Monday.
Arlington Bowie (TX) OL Tope Imade – Committed to Texas and won’t take any other visits.
North Mesquite (TX) OT Jean Delance – Texas newest commit and is 100% solid to the Longhorns.
Madison Prep (LA) DE Malcolm Roach – Committed to Texas and may take some visits but I’m not worried about him flipping.
Cibolo Steele (TX) DE Mark Jackson– Committed to Texas A&M but is giving Texas and Oklahoma a hard look.
McDonough 35 (LA) DT Stephon Taylor – Recently told Texas is very likely the leader here.
Destrehan (LA) DT Gerald Wilbon – Committed to Texas and is 100% solid.
Euless Trinity (TX) DT Chris Daniels – Committed to Oklahoma but is visiting Texas, Ohio State, and Tennessee. Has a family connection to Charlie Strong.
Manor (TX) DE/OLB Erick Fowler – Committed to LSU but has a family pull to Texas and is giving the Longhorns a hard look.
There is one “maybe” right now:
Beaumont Central (TX) RB Devwah Whaley – Committed to Arkansas on January 2nd and it doesn’t look like he will visit this weekend but it isn’t 100% off the board yet.
