My son is 12 and we've been skiing/snowboarding 4 times (Park City x2, Durango, and Brack) and we all like it "OK" ... but only "OK." He more likes the sledding, snowmobiling, etc. and just being in/around the snow.
So my idea is to go someplace with the things we actually enjoy the most without paying to stay on the mountain with ski in/ski out access/prices. We can stay in nicer places for much less money, have access to better food, etc. then find one-off places to sled, snowmobile, etc.
We live in Austin and direct flights preferred, but not mandatory.
Any wisdom to share? TIA.
