Parrish Cobb, once a Texas high school player of the year who started at cornerback as a true freshman at Oklahoma, was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison for aggravated robbery, the Waco (Texas) Tribune-Herald reported.
Cobb, 20, pleaded guilty in the holdup of a Baylor student at gunpoint. In a plea bargain, prosecutors dismissed two other armed robbery charges against him.
In Monday's appearance, State District Court Judge Ralph Strother chided Cobb: “Sounds to me that given the opportunities you have had in your life, which I know about, and the mess you have made out of your life, you are fortunate to be getting the deal you are getting.”
Cobb, named the 2015 Super Centex Defensive Player of the Year by the Tribune-Herald, committed to Baylor in May 2016 but requested his release after former Baylor coach Art Briles was fired the same month.
After being granted his release, Cobb signed with Oklahoma, where in 2016 he started two games as a freshman but was limited to four games total because of a hamstring injury.
