Stoops in the Alamo Bowl

He stated:

I love the Sooners thumping their chest about giving up 32 points and 500 yards of offense to a depleted Oregon team lol. Can’t wait to watch them have the same results with Venables. I’m just wondering what the excuses will be this time?

I asked:

What specifically leads you to conclude our defense will have the same results with Venables?
If OU can score 47 or, like the RRS, 55 I think the D will be just good enough.

Apperently he is going to enter the portal but still might come back to OU

Ya the only way you can talk to other schools is by entering the portal which is why he did. It looks like Georgia and Auburn are the front runners to land him.

The thing keeping UGA from being at Bama level is QB play.Williams certainly solves that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lane kiffin gets involved at Ole miss either

Not sure where to post this but looks like Caleb Williams is thinking about hitting the transfer portal.

This has been speculated for weeks by his continued vague comments regarding his status at OU. Here’s the deal imo, OU is in a very precarious position here. I don’t know the NIL rules but in judging from the Ewers kid scenario. OU could arrange a nice NIL deal for Williams to stay at OU but what stops him from holding OU hostage next year with a threat of transferring out for a better NIL deal? This is really going to create a lot of havoc for a lot of teams imo. They need to set some parameters

That's why NIL deals need to be a contract in writing to prevent this kind of thing. Back load the bulk of the money, and it's given to the athlete in full once he meets all of the requirements of the NIL.

Or it’s best to be the team that the Qb transferred to because anything after that they have to sit out a year right?

If I was him I would certainly try to be with a team who can contend immediately. I think USC is a good couple years away from contending for their Conference

My comment was just for the irony and to needle OU fans if Williams went to be with Riley, lol. ;)

It is. I don’t think some of you have a full understanding of NiL. There is no way these guys are getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars and there not be some outlined expectations on the players end. There is no threat of guys refusing to play or something like that as has been speculated here. If something like that did happen the player would lose those deals. NIL isn’t money without expectations the player has to hold up there end too.

Bell could Williams try to get a better NIL deal next year? Sure he could. Same way Venables(or any other coach) could get a better deal next year, or even without NIL he could decide to come back and then next year decide he didn’t like Leby and transfer. Some of you are making too much of NIL

It was funny watching Stoopsie passing the visor to the guy he fired in order to keep his useless brother on staff.

I am pretty surprised. But those of us reading between the lines or deciphering code, his teeet really reads
“…and see who offers the best NIL, preparation and development for my future career…”

Good to know. Odd, however, that you would know that and the number of times he's done it. Hook'em.
I guess you're new here..... you've probably never heard of Thujone or his MS Paint masterpieces.

Research them and you'll understand Bob Stoops, bag of dicks references, and his bowl record. We'll see you back here after your homework assignment.

God there are a lot of snowflakes on this site. It was a joke, for Christ's sake. Buy a clue next time.

The challenge for the schools is they have no control over NIL arrangements made with athletes. NIL deals are negotiated and agreed with unaffiliated 3rd parties (i.e boosters and BMD's). An athlete can't try to create leverage by demanding the university work out a better NIL deal. That's not how it works.

Remember too that the Texas legislature approved NIL for college athletes with NO RESTRICTIONS. Other states have legalized NIL for college athletes but with some regulations that still gives the schools some ability to oversee NIL and provide some limited controls. This is why the Aggies have the top recruiting class in the nation this season and Texas will have a top 5 recruiting class. It has nothing to do with Aggies building new facilities or building their brand, etc. etc. The Aggies have the top class because there's unrestricted NIL in Texas and they're in the SEC. Once UT arrives in the SEC, I expect Texas and Texas A&M to own national recruiting for the foreseeable future.

Well, if he’s going to Georgia we’ll know soon enough because classes begin there next Monday.

Looks like OU moved on rather quickly

This is not a bad pickup for OU. However, i don't see Williams coming back after this news. He's not interested in competing for his job. I bet Georgia is where he lands. He doesn't need NIL money since he's just 2 years away from being a top 10 pick in the draft. Georgia can give him just enough NIL to keep him happy until then.

Yep and UGA’s problem has been the QB spot since they chose Jake Fromm over Justin Fields

I'm curious to know if Casey has reached out to OU. That would be interesting but I doubt OU would show interest. I'm hearing chatter on Nebraska boards that he may land there.

Crystal ball for Thompson to Nebraska.

I was also wondering if he may be waiting on okla st to see if Sanders leaves, which I don’t see why he would, he would do well in learning under Gundy

Sark has to be loving this. The 2022 version of the big 12 is looking to be a decent environment to play a lot of young guys.

Lol, the folks on inside the 40 acres are acting like Gabriel is a trash QB and that OU is doomed to lose to Texas for the next decade… “They can spin it how they want but OB would be having a meltdown if Gabriel was our starter going into the season”

I’ll fully admit that I’d much rather Williams staying than anyone else going into 2021 because his ceiling is much higher than Gabriel, but man…do you all really have that much confidence in a guy who couldn’t crack the two deep at tOSU? Ewers may end up being great, but I’d much rather have a guy that’s thrown for 8000 yards, 61 tds to 11 ints over 2.5 years in the system that’s about to be installed than a guy who hasn’t played a meaningful snap. Could work out great like CW did for half the season but could also turnout like Card.

At first glance, Gabriel can read defenses and find open receivers in the normal flow of the offense much better than Williams can at this point in his career. Williams was great after finding the open guy after the play broke down but not yet great in the pocket (he sat back there for 6-7 seconds and couldn’t find anyone multiple times last year). Obviously (I think) that will change for Williams with experience but I don’t think this is going to be the massive drop off y’all are hoping for. He very well may be better than than Williams or Rattler were last year. That offense was the worst we’ve had since 2014.

Ewers didn’t step foot on campus until late August. He never stood a chance to play this year. Not sure how that equates to not making the 2 deep but from the sounds of it you don’t have the slightest clue as to what you are talking about.

You Sooners are just taking your big doses of copium trying to stay optimistic when deep down inside you next year doesn’t look that great.

Well he wasn’t the starter or the back up so he didn’t crack the two deep, hasn’t ever played a snap, and transferred. If that’s the guy you all are going all in on and are acting like he’s a sure thing to some how take Texas from 5-7 and losing to Kansas to beating OU, OSU and winning the big 12 next year…then okay. Good luck with that. We’ve heard that from Austin before. You guys are coming off of 6 straight losses and a meaningless win against WVU.

It’s been so long since you all have seen a good coach or quarterback that the delusions, while sad, are not surprising. Sam Ellingher…I mean Hudson Card…I mean…Nick Ewers is the answer though! Right?

Recent History: We beat you all with a decent transfer in 2019, one 5 star freshman in 2020, replaced a five star freshman with another and beat you all in 2021. Beat y’all a few times with a walk on QB and a converted WR at QB too. How about y’all beat us and/or win the conference before getting ahead of yourselves. Maybe beat Kansas first though.
