Stoops in the Alamo Bowl

Well he wasn’t the starter or the back up so he didn’t crack the two deep, hasn’t ever played a snap, and transferred. If that’s the guy you all are going all in on and are acting like he’s a sure thing to some how take Texas from 5-7 and losing to Kansas to beating OU, OSU and winning the big 12 next year…then okay. Good luck with that. We’ve heard that from Austin before. You guys are coming off of 6 straight losses and a meaningless win against WVU.

It’s been so long since you all have seen a good coach or quarterback that the delusions, while sad, are not surprising. Sam Ellingher…I mean Hudson Card…I mean…Nick Ewers is the answer though! Right?

Recent History: We beat you all with a decent transfer in 2019, one 5 star freshman in 2020, replaced a five star freshman with another and beat you all in 2021. Beat y’all a few times with a walk on QB and a converted WR at QB too. How about y’all beat us and/or win the conference before getting ahead of yourselves. Maybe beat Kansas first though.

Worry about your own team. Take your narcissistic put downs over to a Sooner site and have a ball. Remember where you're posting. You've about worn out your welcome here.

Hey it was a comeback that was warranted to a snarky response...nothing narcissistic about that. Literally just said I thought it was funny that so many people were talking down about Dillon Gabriel and asked if y’alls confidence was really that much higher in a guy who hasn’t ever stepped on the field. Instead of an answer in received a s***t talking response and responded in kind.

The thing keeping UGA from being at Bama level is QB play.Williams certainly solves that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lane kiffin gets involved at Ole miss either
But Williams is a 5 star. Those only qualify to hold clipboards under Kirby Smart. There’s always a better walk on! Lol

This has been speculated for weeks by his continued vague comments regarding his status at OU. Here’s the deal imo, OU is in a very precarious position here. I don’t know the NIL rules but in judging from the Ewers kid scenario. OU could arrange a nice NIL deal for Williams to stay at OU but what stops him from holding OU hostage next year with a threat of transferring out for a better NIL deal? This is really going to create a lot of havoc for a lot of teams imo. They need to set some parameters
No worry there Bell. True, those NIL deals can influence anyone, but the portal transfer is a one time for life deal.
While it is trure a guy could hit the portal one year and transfer the next, he would have to sit out a year to do it.Maybe even lose a year eligibility.. I doubt anyone does that again.

I know one thing if I was a college football coach right now and trying to jockey for position with your players, i'd rather retire.

God there are a lot of snowflakes on this site. It was a joke, for Christ's sake. Buy a clue next time.
Bruh, i didn't see your IFF. Squawk next time to avoid green on blue. :)

Hard to see Ga. for C. Williams. Don't they have Daniel, the USC guy, and Brocksomething a HS 5 star? Ole Miss or UCLA would see the most likely. Maybe Notre Dame. Hope the kid does ok. OU is in pretty good shape. Still adding to a decent recruiting class. Hired another great recruiter D line coach from Clemson. Only 8 months to see how it works out.

You're a newbie here, and you're not off to a good start. How about showing some respect for where you're posting?

I'm very old. Can you tell me what you just wrote? o_O
I'm old too... Basically I said to avoid any friendly fire down here, you need to identify if you're "friend or foe" (IFF-- it's an old WWII saying). You can do so by squawking-- or telling us who you are and your intentions. You see, we've been inundated down here by 9.95ers (our term for you guys that like paying for "inside info" that we all usually get before you and for free) that claim to be medical covid experts-- and have been proven wrong time and time again by the collective brain trust in this forum. The "Grey Matter Bunch" as I fondly refer to this group, is extremely friendly but also wary of carpet baggers, interlopers, solicitors, and clown shoes.
We have a high threshold for pain, a low tolerance for stoooopidity, and an allergy to bullsh!t liars that claim to be medical experts.

Hope this helps out ol' timer.

Lol, the folks on inside the 40 acres are acting like Gabriel is a trash QB and that OU is doomed to lose to Texas for the next decade… “They can spin it how they want but OB would be having a meltdown if Gabriel was our starter going into the season”

I’ll fully admit that I’d much rather Williams staying than anyone else going into 2021 because his ceiling is much higher than Gabriel, but man…do you all really have that much confidence in a guy who couldn’t crack the two deep at tOSU? Ewers may end up being great, but I’d much rather have a guy that’s thrown for 8000 yards, 61 tds to 11 ints over 2.5 years in the system that’s about to be installed than a guy who hasn’t played a meaningful snap. Could work out great like CW did for half the season but could also turnout like Card.

At first glance, Gabriel can read defenses and find open receivers in the normal flow of the offense much better than Williams can at this point in his career. Williams was great after finding the open guy after the play broke down but not yet great in the pocket (he sat back there for 6-7 seconds and couldn’t find anyone multiple times last year). Obviously (I think) that will change for Williams with experience but I don’t think this is going to be the massive drop off y’all are hoping for. He very well may be better than than Williams or Rattler were last year. That offense was the worst we’ve had since 2014.
Gabriel is a decent QB but keep in mind that he's probably going to be playing without the rest of CW's receivers.

I'm more confident in our offense next season than OU's.

Defensively is another issue. Our D was the worst I've ever seen in the 40+ years of UT football that I've been following and I don't see where we have improved much on that end. Maybe we get some transfers that will help plug some of our big gaping defensive holes.

And the receivers are a big part of what Caleb did this season. Let’s not forget how many crazy catches they had to make in the red river comeback

Let's be honest-- yes-- some of those catches were crazy-- but how many of them would have been made if say Nathan Vasher or Michael Huff or Aaron Ross were on the coverage? I'm going with-- not enough to win.

Fair enough. Though showing mutual respect is a thing as well. I will take the higher road if necessary from now on lol.

The receiving core may be an issue but the quick signing of Gabriel might stop the bleeding a bit. I would guess Farooq (who didn’t play much this year anyway) and Mario Williams are the only ones definitely gone because of Williams. We lost Haselwood and Stogner (who was under used anyway) to the portal with Hall and Willis heading to the NFL.

I think Wease and West stay, Stoops will obviously stay, and Woods doesn’t have a choice. Mims isn’t tightly connected to Williams and may stay with Gabriel being signed. Anderson and Gibson are too big 2022 spring guys coming in that will help and they signed a few TE/HB type guys. The running backs will all stay.

I think their success at WR will highly depend on the portal to fill some of the gaps. I think things will be fine and possibly better on the whole than last season depending on how that shakes out but it’s way too early to tell.

Y’all’s offense should be decent if the new oline guys and Ewers pan out. Receivers and backfield are both solid.

True, but those dudes played DB in a different game. These days if the WR doesn’t catch it there is going to be a flag

"Rest of receivers"? Who you talking about? Rumor Mario Williams may check out. He was OK. If we get Mims, Farooq, Stoops, Woods (likely gone), West and the newbies OU will be fine at that position and recruited well. Your freshman probably better but doubt overall the talent level will be that much different. And your QB will not have much game experience. But, as always since 1957, assume the RRS will be a close game.

Woods will be back unless he wants to transfer again and sit out for a season.

Thanks for your kind help. I didn't know there was a hierarchy among dues payers. I pay monthly because I remain unconvinced that I'll be above dirt for a full year and I refuse to go out with anybody owing me; far better that I should be owing.

CWs reason for entering the portal is complete BS. I don't blame the kid, but state it for what it is. It isn't about development, it's about NIL. He currently can't go to a better situation than the one he is currently in. Miami, UCLA, Auburn, Ole Miss, LSU? None of those teams are setup the way OU is with the kids currently in place, a top 10 recruiting class, a top level coaching staff (that keeps being added to) and a Fan Base that literally called for him to be the starting QB. With that being said, I'm extremely excited about Dillon Gabriel (who reminds me of a left handed Baker, the college version). I think the future looks bright for OU (through my Crimson colored glasses of course!).

You talking about Marvin Mims? He’s coming back. I think Theo Wease is returning also (but I might be wrong). Those are OU’s two best receivers.

Don’t forget Stoops is our best possession receiver. People think I’m kidding but it’s true lol

Has 1 school ever had 3 Heisman favorites over the course of 12 months besides OU? Rattler, Williams and now this Gabriel kid will surely be in the discussion

Hey MM, who started the thread about Stoops? Wasn't me, or Bell or Philly.
