Sorry Weevil, but I'm the same way. I love team USA in a lot of Olympic, sports that I normally wouldn't watch, not soccer.
Even worse, I'm the ultimate Longhorn fan. I'll pretty much watch any Longhorn sport, men's or women's, and I'm definitely no fan of women's sports. Hell, if there was people in burnt orange playing cricket I'd watch. Not soccer.
It's not just that it's so boring, and can end in a tie, but also because soccer fans seem to be the world's worst about pushing on everybody else how great their sport is. That just makes me push back harder and tend to ridicule them more.
Kinda like Lebron James. The more I hear him being pushed as the greatest player ever, the more I'm like, "f*ck you! Jordan rules, b*tch!" Only without the depression inducing boredom. Lol
I get that. I share your feelings about Bron vs. Jordan.
But sport is sport to me. It's like beer. Some people don't like new beers from micro brew and just stick to their trusty ole Bud Light. I think that is a terrible choice, but it's not my choice. The biggest gripe is "it doesn't taste good." Well, taste is relative and you have to appreciate the beer for what it is supposed to be.
Same with sport for me. Not every game in every sport will I tune in to. However, I appreciate every sport for what it is supposed to be.
The "boring" sports are NASCAR, Golf, Soccer, etc.
NASCAR is interesting -- watching the pits, when to pit, how many tires, fuel stops, restarts, etc. But people think we watch NASCAR just for the wrecks, lol...nope.
Golf is interesting -- the drama unfolding when players hear a roar from a few holes away, having to deal with difficult shots, where to play the next shot, the putting. But people think Golf is just chasing around a white ball.
Soccer is interesting -- no matter your size, speed, weight, etc. you can be good. No matter if you're "better" than the other team or dominating the game, you still feel like you have a chance to win. Watching the player movement into open areas, play aerial balls, or keep it on the surface, set pieces, free kicks, etc. How do the defenders deal with diagonal runs, switching the field, etc. It's fascinating. But people think soccer is just kicking a ball around hoping you might catch the keeper making a mistake.
I just enjoy these sports for what they are.
