FOX Sports announces Texas-Michigan was most-watched game of 2024 with 9.35 million viewers
Last weekend’s Week 2 clash between Texas and Michigan didn’t end up being the most exciting game of the slate that was, but FOX Sports is certainly enthusiastic over the ratings.
On Tuesday, FOX Sports revealed via social media that the Longhorns-Wolverines showdown was the most-watched game of 2024, as well as the most-watched telecast of the day for any network, with 9.35 million viewers.
“FOX’s BIG NOON SATURDAY matchup featuring Texas’ decisive victory over Michigan scored 9.35 million viewers,” FOX Sports PR posted on X. “(No. 1) Most-watched college football game this season on any network. (No. 1) Most-watched telecast of the day on any network.”
Evidently, the two gigantic brand-name programs facing off was more than enough to get fans to tune in. However, it wasn’t much of a game for long, as Texas played exceptionally in Ann Arbor, defeating the Wolverines 31-12 on their home field in a statement win.
The defending national champions did not look like last year’s team on Saturday, suffering their first lost in The Big House since 2020. The entire ordeal, while fantastic for FOX Sports, led to college football analysts, like Paul Finebaum, being asked where the Wolverines go from here.
“They don’t really have anywhere to go,” Finebaum said recently, via McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning. “Because I thought if they turned that game — I mean, they looked like a 9-3 team before the season. Now they look like about an 8-4 team and at Michigan that just doesn’t work. It won’t play well.”
Alas, the expectations have been set high at Michigan, especially given the team’s most recent success following the backend of the Jim Harbaugh era. A three-year run where the Wolverines boast a 40-3 record, three straight Big Ten Championship wins, and three straight College Football Playoff appearances to go with last year’s national title.
