Baton Rouge Dunham defensive end Mike Williams has been pretty open about his strong feelings towards the Texas Longhorns, telling Orangebloods.com in recent conversations that Texas was the top school on his list. Last week, after Williams had taken an official visit to Tennessee, and after the Longhorns offered Williams a scholarship, the versatile defender stated that Texas was the team to beat heading into his UT official visit.

One day after his Texas official visit wrapped up, Williams decided he’s seen enough, announcing on Twitter that he has given the Longhorns a verbal commitment.

“I have made my decision to continue my education and football career at a place that feels just like home in the University of Texas and have decided to commit to the Longhorns,” Williams said in a statement.

Along with Texas and Tennessee, Williams also took an official visit to LSU. The 6-2, 250-pounder held offers from the likes of Texas, LSU, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. Word began to circulate on Sunday that Williams was close to announcing his commitment to Texas after what he described as a very productive weekend in Austin.

“It went good. I liked everything about it,” Williams said of his Texas official visit.

A three-star prospect, Williams is a versatile athlete who played quarterback for Dunham. He’ll transition over to defense in college, where college coaches have told him he could be a playmaker as both a defensive end and linebacker.

“I played quarterback my whole high school career. Everything on the defensive side of the ball, I’d have to improve on,” Williams said. (Coaches) have said they can see my potential as a linebacker.”

Williams becomes the Longhorns’ 23rd commitment in the 2018 recruiting class. He’ll sign his letter of intent on February 7.
