Texas receiver Kai Locksley is no longer with the team and is expected to transfer in December, according to a source close to the player.
Locksley was not on the sidelines of Texas' win against Iowa State on Saturday. He normally does not travel for road games, but is usually on the sidelines for home games. After making several calls, I was told the reason for Locksley's absence is because he departed the team at least a week ago.
From what I was told, Locksley remains disappointed with his lack of playing time at Texas. Locksley was hoping to be in the mix for playing time at quarterback this season, but fell behind Shane Buechele, Tyrone Swoopes, Jerrod Heard, and eventually Matthew Merrick.
In order to obtain playing time, Locksley switched from quarterback to receiver prior to the season. He switched positions nearly a week after Heard decided to play receiver.
However, Locksley has been buried behind several receivers, and decided things were no longer working for him at Texas.
Looking ahead, Buechele, Merrick and incoming freshman Sam Ehlinger will compete for playing time at quarterback next season. Heard previously said he would not rule out playing quarterback again, but he is thriving in his new position.
