They dont proscribe to any religion, and they certainly do not fight for those beliefs. religious people throughout history have done indescribably brutal things to people in the name of their favorite deity.

Most MANPADs have about a 7-8 km range. We make a mean one (stinger).
From an altitude standpoint- you can't lock onto an aircraft that's more than about 4-5km away.
The only decent ones that these guys would have access to are the Russian made versions. Their best one is the Verba.
But yes, A10s would very vulnerable to MANPAD fire due to their low flight levels needed for close air support.
But you better not miss. And you better realize that those A10s can take serious damage and not fall out of the sky.
