Yes, generally speaking if you arent a religious person, then you are less susceptible to extremism and more likely to use your sense. Unless of course, you are sociopath. It doesnt mean throughout history there hasnt been 'unbelievers' who hate all religion and take issue with it and want to kill everyone who believes in some sort of god.
It's usually the unwavering unshakable belief in something- not a lack of one- that drives people to extreme behavior. But I cant see what would drive a normal non sociopath unbeliever to extremist actions against religious people or institutions.
But for every one of those people, there's 100x more people who believe in some sort of god doing the same crap against a competing religion.
