on Texassports.com are great. If you haven't watched them do yourself a favor and check them out. I tried to put a link but couldn't get it to work.

One of my favorite parts is when Galindo said to Strong something like "I know you don't care about star rankings" and Strong just shook his head no and and mouthed NO! It was an awesome interview. I am starting to drink the koolaid again. Strong impressed me so much and when I hear him talk I always want to hear more.

With Vahe and Jefferson, I was just impressed by their attitudes and how they love the family atmosphere at Texas. You can tell they have bought in and want great players to come and help them. Good young men. Would take an entire roster full of men like this.

I had not heard Coach Jean-Mary talk much before this interview. I liked it a lot. He said he had heard and read some things about the Texas high school coaches but he said the Texas Staff visited more high schools than any other school in Texas...not bad. He also spoke of the open door policy with high school coaches. He said "it was fun" on signing day.

I am so fired up about the new offense and new offensive coaches. I am ready to get a glimpse of it at the spring game. I believe this is the staff to get it done. I have said some things about Strong that I still believe but I do like him and respect him. I think he will get Texas back. With players like this and Coaches like this there is no reason not to succeed. Hookem

SwVA....If you are impressed, I am impressed. your track record of predicting coaching effectiveness has been way better than mine.

With Watson it was easy to predict......he had a LONG track record of suckage and a few pretty good offenses that had really good QBs.

I do believe the offense will be a lot better. And if Gilbert has that "feel" for calling plays that makes a good offense great, watch out. I believe that a great OC or DC for that matter have a feel for when to call a certain play....they become the greats. I do hope he keeps some form of the 18 wheeler package.....loved how it was used. Swoopes just needs to protect the ball better during the play.

Oldhorn I think some people on here take me wrong....I can see something that I think should be criticized and I can also see something that should be applauded. The 2 classes Strong and his staff put together I think are awesome. Now that the staff is the right kind of offense for our players and league the sky is the limit. We are just soooo young. this year I want 8 wins and I think that is very possible.....if the offense takes off 9 and possibly 10 with the bowl would be spectacular. No less than 8 though. What do you think?

I am on record here saying I expect 8 wins, I hope for 9 wins, and I dream of 10. If a QB will stand above the pach and we get plus production from that position instead of the suck age we have seen for the last 3years we all have a reason to be optimistic. I think the D will be better. Due to the experience of our very young players.

I didn't stop bitching for about three months when Watson was hired. It just made no sense. He had no record of success. He was head of some of the worst offenses I had ever seen at NU.
I honestly have no idea what to think of Gilbert. The snob in me says Texas could have and should have gotten a more proven OC, on the other hand, I do realize that there wasn't a ton of bargaining power for someone to make a lateral move. I think ANYTHING will be an improvement over bringing in Watson for a second year, then removing him from his duties after one game. I don't think it can be overstated how much that hurt the team. They basically wasted the entire offseason..spring, summer, and fall.

Very good post. I agree. Watson is one of the things I have criticized Strong for. But I think Texas is on the right track now. Player wise for sure and if Gilbert can get it going then we are off and running.

Watson made no sense. Not only did we get to see him in action at a few schools. But hearing his ex players talk about him. An interview by his former QB Joe Klatt was damning. Watson is a QB coach, that is his ceiling. Way in over his head as an OC.

What was even more puzzling was the way he was ushered in here. We were told Wickline would be the play caller. And then come the spring it was Watson. It was a bad move all around. And predictable that it would fail. Then after year 1 it was shown to fail, but he was still given a chance to fix it.

I got in a lot of trouble on this board when I brought this up even before the first game. It was very odd to call someone a playcaller then jerk the rug out from under them and say someone else is the final voice. But I am hoping lessons have been learned and I'm giving this staff my full support. But I will hold them responsible for what they put on the field. Texas is young and that is the truth....but they can still play hard every week and get better week to week. I don't expect the playoff next year....I expect them to compete and win at least 8 and no egg laying like tcu or and especially Iowa St.

The 2 classes so far the 1 position that I think has finally been addressed (talking to you Mack) was OL. Got a lot of high potential guys there.
