Strong won! I saw this article and had to post the article and sorry if it was already posted.

besides the rancid stench emanating from Aggieland as a result of a third five-star quarterback in the last six months rocketing away from College Station on Wednesday evening and the subsequent subtweeting fallout, the other noxious fetor wafting away from the Texas A&M Aggies football program is the decaying corpse of head coach Kevin Sumlin's career there.

Even his recent hire of offensive coordinator Neal Mazzone from UCLA didn't work so well, as Martell's father said that Mazzone's lack of communication across two trips to A&M played a large role in his son's decision:

"I get that but when you go out a month later, for two days on that trip, didn't talk to him once and then when we were there in March for their scrimmage, again, we were there for four days and not once did Mazzone ever talk, and I was five feet from him. Not a handshake, not anything."

Oops. Even Shawn Watson managed to land Shane Buechele and made the right evaluation of Sam Ehlinger. And he was pretty much an abject disaster at Texas. So, not such a great start from the icy Mazzone.

As Iowa running back commit Eno Benjamin so aptly put it on Thursday morning, the operative feeling emerging from the whole debacle was one of shock. And that feeling didn't exactly dissipate quickly.

What the f*** just happened? Did that dude really put the loyalty of recruits on blast while now at his fourth coaching stop in seven years? What is really causing that foul odor? What are they doing to these quarterbacks? Things are jacked up in Collietown.

The A&M collapse started when Malik Jefferson chose the Texas Longhorns in late 2014, gained momentum when Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray departed last December, and took full form when the Aggies limped out of National Signing Day having lost eight straight head-to-head battles with Texas among uncommitted recruits. Even getting Under Armour All-American Jeffrey McCulloch on campus days before reportedly resulted in The Shark attempting to recruit other players to Austin, an incredible insult for Texas A&M, once considered the frontrunner.

Speaking of McCulloch, here are his thoughts on the matter:

Another one leaving is anyone starting to believe me that somethings up

— The Shark (@jmcculloch17) May 5, 2016
It just keeps getting worse for them like they say what's done in the dark comes to the light

— The Shark (@jmcculloch17) May 5, 2016
I told y'all a couple of months back how they were don't act surprised now

By April, the sentiments of recruits had a chance to coalesce while the Aggies struggled mostly unsuccessfully to rebound in the opinions of top 2017 prospects. Here's SB Nation's national recruiting analyst Bud Elliott on what he discovered after two stops in Texas for Nike's regional camps:

2. I found from speaking with recruits and recruiting experts in the state that there is more love for Strong than Sumlin among elite recruits. That's in part because of the personal relationships he builds.

It's over.

For the last two and a half years, ever since the Aggies stole former Longhorns head coach Mack Brown's prospects out from under Strong at the end of the 2014, the predominant narrative in Texas recruiting surrounded the battle between Strong and Sumlin for supremacy in the Lone Star State.

After watching Wednesday night's meltdown, it seems like the right time to fully memorialize the #WRTS era in College Station.

Just like it's time to memorialize the #WRTS days, build a coffin, and lower that reeking mess into the ground, Sumlin's ability to successfully recruit the state has a plot right next to it that Moorehead started further excavating late Wednesday evening. And no amount of bleach or air freshener can wash away or cover that gangrenous stink, not even firing Moorehead, which seems unlikely following his public apology on Thursday.

Sure, Texas head coach Charlie Strong continues to face his own issues ahead of a make-or-break season, but if the view of the upcoming season just a few weeks ago was questioning which school could win games this fall, now the question is whether there's any coming back for Sumlin.

Among to high-level recruits to point and laugh at Wednesday's devastation for Marvin Wilson, Jeffrey Okudah, and Baron Browning. Coincidentally, those are the top three prospects in the state and none seem likely to end up at A&M at a point in the process where the Aggies have typically been a favorite with similar recruits in past year. In fact, none of the top 12 players in the state look likely to choose Sumlin's program.

The highest-rated in-state commit for the Aggies is offensive tackle Grayson Reed at No. 31, a player the Longhorns continue to recruit and have a reasonable chance to flip because, well, implosion.

Perhaps Sumlin does manage to pull things back together and stop the slow slide of diminishing returns on the football field and in recruiting. But that hardly seems likely right now -- he's lost the trust of Texas football players and his wide receivers coach turning so quickly on recruits only further cememted that break. While earning that trust isn't easy, earning is back is close to impossible.

Based on the entirety of the post-Manziel era at Texas A&M, Sumlin doesn't have the personal coaching acumen to turn things around or any recruiting cachet left to capitalize on if he does.

Ding, dong, the Sumlin's dead.

Just try to ignore the stench until the Aggies clean up the mess once and for all.

Great post, but who really expects the Ags to clean things up once and for all? Ain't gonna happen. There's too much redneck in them to ever achieve much of anything. They had 1939, though.

What did they have in 1939? 1/3 of a disputed NC. Which is nothing. They have won nothing. Ever.

Are you guys gonna get t-shirts made that say beat Iowa state?

Did you circle it on your calendar also the big day to enact revenge

How did Charlie do I this draft!!?!! I thought he was suppose to own the draft?!? One draft pick !?

This may be too difficult for an Okie to understand but the first class full of Strong's recruits at Texas was the 2015 class which means the earliest they can enter the draft is the 2018 draft.

You may have noticed all the Texas media that has finally accepted that Mack truly did leave an empty cupboard.

Did you circle Texas being that you got dominated ? Are you living vicariously through Iowa St.? Given you draft comment it's clear your intellect isn't too high. So I don't imagine you have anything worthwhile to say.

You guys need a winning season and maybe a bowl game before crowing about recruiting, don't you think?

That's the thing...just imagine what the recruiting will look like once the ball is rolling. If Rumblin can't hang with Strong at 5-7...?

THIS is what aggys need to fear most...... and sooners too, seeing as how Texas had a better recruiting class than either with our last few seasons......

Congrats to Charlie on getting 7 DT's to get his class into the top 10. That should provide a lot of depth but the Big 12 isn't exactly a running league is it? Maybe they will get a bunch of upfield pressure to defend the spread passing game?

You're thinking air raid when Baylor, TCU, WVA, and OU are run heavy spreads. All four were top 25 rushing teams in 2015 and Baylor was #2 in the nation for rushing. TTech is the only true air raid spread in the Big 12. TCU did a little air raid at times with Boykin.

Clemson, Kelly at ND, Urban Meyer, Tom Herman, and Malzhan all use power running HUHN spreads as well. Texas was doing it under Harsin.

I don't know how people can hear the word spread and think of nothing except Mike Leach and Texas Tech. Variations of spread principles are pretty much a staple of every single football conference, so no matter who you are a fan of you are seeing these offenses. The successful ones are running the ball and running it a lot. The only one out there still trying to throw it 60 times a game is Mike Leach. If you don't think DT are necessary, you are a moron.

Compared to the SEC, the Big 12 is a smash-mouth running conference:

-50% of Big 12 teams finished in top 30 rushing/game (just 21% for SEC)
-42% of SEC finished 89th or worse in the country in rushing/game (just 20% for BIg 12)

On top of that Big 12 has better QBs and more advanced offenses.

I'm sorry that you are so DUMB that you don't realize that a winning season and a bowl would probably show recruiting improvement vs bragging beforehand.

We didn't write the article, you dumb son of a b*tch aggy.

And again, why have aggys ever talked about college football in general EVER given your rationale, dipshit? You know, since you've never won a GD thing? Bueller? Bueller?

Call some more names. Very intelligent. You sound like the typical t-shirt fan you probably are.

Sure, dumbass. Keep ignoring my question. Makes you look honest and intelligent. Why do aggys talk about college football AT ALL EVER since you've never won anything, huh? Answer the question. It's your own reasoning.

And t-shirt Horn fans are more intelligent than aggys coming out of your pitiful diploma mill these days. a&m is a backup school for kids who can't get into UT. Fact.

FWIW, at Louisville he signed 14 guys who were drafted by the NFL from 2010-12, including 5 in the first round. Most of his 2013 recruiting class at Louisville will be seniors in 2016 and 2017.

2010: Preston Brown, Dominique Brown, Josh Bellamy and Marcus Smith (1st round pick)
2011: Lorenzo Mauldin, Gerod Holliman, Teddy Bridgewater (1st rounder), Charles Gaines, Calvin Pryor (1st rounder), John Miller, Deiontrez Mount, Jamon Brown, and Devante Parker (1st rounder).
2012: Sheldon Rankins (1st rounder)

This coming from a team that was one of 3 that didn't make a bowl in the conference that got beat up in their bowl games...Kansas, Iowa St, Texas. Only 3 that didn't make it. You barely won recruiting LAST year and if Strong keeps coaching the way he has been coaching then the implosion will be in Austin. Kids change their tune on a dime and it won't be any different if Strong and Texas suck again this year. Currently you have to climb above Iowa St and 7 other teams to be relevant again.

Yet we still are more respected than aggy, have the better recruiting classes and have the most positive buzz out of all the teams you mentioned. Not too mention that there arent media outlets writing articles liek this about Texas or Strong bc they know we are moving the right direction, while your school sauteed itself in stank dumpster juice before drowning said dumpster in gasoline, napalm and yellow cake uranium before igniting the pile.....

I hope you aggys enjoyed what limited notice you were paid by the country as you walked into the sec and proceeded to repeat what you did in the Big 12 - which was barely stay above .500, not contend/play or be close to a CC, etc etc - most of those people have now seen what aggy truly is and, if they werent before, the entire country is roaring with laughter over your ineptitude. Tried to run away to get out of Daddys shadow, and it didnt work.... even when yall were 10+ wins in the sec and we were sub .500.... its called respect, something aggys dont get or understand. You will ALWAYS be sub tiered when it comes to collegiate athletics in this State ad in the country.

Now go on Rumlin watch to see what happens first - another decommitt- another arrest - another video of sumlin drinking with players- another jaw dropping gaffe by one of your coaches, or some strange cultish activity being championed as "tradition"..... lol you wont have to wait long for any of those possibilities.

From an aggy! That is rich, hilarious, and completely tone deaf.

Aw, Aggie doesn't want to talk recruiting....since their recruiting is even more of a train wreck than usual. They want to change the subject to UTs recent history.

And they don't even want to talk both teams recent history. Seeing as how ATM hasn't won anything of substance since 1939. Call me when Aggie wins a CC. Hell call me when Aggie competes for a CC. Until then, I wouldn't talk either.

I think your last CC was back when Troy Aikman was busy winning superbowls for Jerrah and Starter jackets and hammer pants were in style.

Evidently you didn't hear about 2010.

That's okay -- no one else did either.

Its aggy imagination!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you cant win, then lie. If you maunfacture and lie enough nobody will notice right? ;) LMAO still remember when the media tore aggy up over the '10 on their stadium lol.... aggy jokes are a refreshing desert spring that just wont ever run out of that sweet life giving water... they will always be around to satisfy

The Ags bought three good seasons under Jackie $herrill (who started out 5-6, 5-5-1 and 6-5). Slocum had some good years, and I don't recall him getting fired for transgressions.

As for 1939, I can't vouch, but I was under the impression it was legit.

That stadium photo is gold, BBR. Gold! (Ignore the reference; it really is gold.)
