The media and the Strong-Texas situation

Is the turmoil Strong's fault or boosters and ADs? Seems to me Strong is fairly universally respected as a person.

Loses to Kansas
two loses to feCal
Loses to BYU
Shut out by KSU 23-0
Shut out by ISU 24-0 IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY. Who the hell gets blanked by ISU?
Embarrassed by Arkansas in a bowl game.

Should I keep writing? He took the same roster that Mack Brown whent 8-5 and went 6-7.

In two seasons he has had 6 extra points blocked. Extra Points, how the hell is that even possible?
He screws up a coin toss and elects to play defense to start both halves.
I can't tell you how many in game screw ups his has made.

The man is the worst game day coach in the history of football.

Anyone that wants him back is either an aggsy or just plain stupid.

In all honesty --- I don't think its as bad as you guys make it out to be. The guy has a 16-20 record, AND a loss to Kansas. That will get you fired at every single school included in the Top 20 programs of all time. ESPN has hours of programming to fill in during the day. 30 years ago they filled it with Australian Rules Football. Its now replaced with Herbstreit, Finebaum, Steven A. Smith, formerly Skip Bayless, and whoever else shouts the loudest or gives the hottest opinion. They are just spewing verbal diarrhea to fill time. The Kansas loss made this an easy decision, and any person without an agenda can see it clearly.

Wow...thanks for reminding me of the great quandary....every time I think that Stephen A. Smith is the most obnoxious ass in sports reporting, Skip Bayless opens his mouth and makes me rethink my previous judgment.....

What media?

Just a couple of recent headlines out of the numerous daily headlines:
Texas leaves Charlie Strong and Longhorns players in limbo by Mark Schlaback (espn)

Not yet firing Charlie Strong is the cruelest thing Texas could have done to him by Dan Wetzel (yahoo)

Charlie Strong didn't have enough time to fix the mess he inherited from Mack Brown by Newy Scruggs (newsday)

Herbstreit complained on how Mack Brown was let go and dove tailed into how bad it is for Strong.

That's a BS metric though because blue bloods are in different stages. If the program was depleted of talent and had some serious rebuilding to do, then I would hope most fans would understand it takes time. The worst thing a program can do is to be too quick on the trigger because it conveys a negative image to potential coaches. Strong isn't leaving the cupboard bare - even his detractors admit that - so it's not like keeping him will detrimentally hurt the program.

If you look at the top 25 programs of all time, you're going to see coaches who proved to be good. Woody Hayes for OSU started his career 4 wins, 6 wins, and 6 wins. He wasn't fired.

We're not trying to create metrics just trying to get a feel of what others would do or want in today's world not 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's or 90's. I'm not going into KPI's and stuff!

If you have seen boosters running practice or calling the plays on the sideline then you might have a point. But you don't. Excuses are starting to get old. Poor ole Strong being mistreated with his nearly 30 million dollar contract. How dare fans expect him to at least be a decent coach for it. There is NO excuse for losing the way he has. Last year Iowa St and this year Kansas. His record is what his record says it is!

I don't blame Strong for all of the salivating media trying to be the 1st to have a new spin. Strong is accountable to his record, but, the sh*t show is the fault of the excessively meddling boosters. They don't seem to show any discretion and seem to have a power competition between them. Also, I blame the media who go to press with any source as "fact". The AD is responsible for the disloyal mole it is employing. I have seen a few articles that use a source named "anonymous high ranking official". The AD needs to be out there contesting and constantly clarifying that these aren't official athletic department information release.

So the seniors didn't graduate Brown's last year? It was a recruiting class ranked in the top 5 and replaced by players ranked 24th. The following year, with limited recruiting by Strong, they were ranked 20th and he lost another top 5 class. So it's completely BS to say it was the same team when you are replacing top shelf talent with mid-shelf.

This year's class is going to suck and it's the result of boosters and an absolutely terrible PR mess created by the University. Frankly, if UT doesn't get an AD who can handle the boosters, their roster of potential coaches will be depleted greatly and we'll likely be going through this circus again. Every school has potential booster issues, but UT seems to have more of an issue with it than most.

8-9 mil is pretty damn stupid in another unproven coach.
Agreed. Problem is the supply of good college HCs is much less than the demand of good jobs. Herman can name his price this year in this environment.

I agree with you. That will be the going rate, and as an Aggie I guess if Herman was in place of Sumlin and that was the going rate, I guess I'd be happy. I'm not sold on him but these days you take chances on up and coming coaches. I just don't think Texas needs to settle for up and coming. I'm pretty sure you could give 8-9 mil to several proven coaches and lure them away.

9 million is a LOT of money for someone that hasn't won an NC and little body of work to their resume. Geez man! I don't know what's worse gambling and spending a ton of dough or keeping what you got and using what we already paid for.

Herbstreet is a dip$hit. Get a B12 network and stop watching the antagonist on ESPN. I've honestly enjoyed the B1G network even if they constantly give handjobs to Mich and OSU.
