6/26/1870- Wagner’s Die Walkure makes its debut in Munich, introducing the famous piece “Ride of the Valkyries.”

6/26/1910- Col. Tom Parker, the controversial Mananger of Elvis Presley is allegedly born in the Netherlands.

6/24/1944- Guitar legend Jeff Beck is born in London. In addition to his solo work, he was a member of The Yardbirds after replacing Eric Clapton and was succeeded by Jimmy Page.


6/27/1944- The Beach Boys’ Bruce Johnston is born in LA. Originally joining the group to fill in for Brian Wilson for concerts while Brian produced material, he would become a permanent member not long after. He also wrote the no. 1 single “I write the songs” for Barry Manilow.

6/30/1944- Little River Band lead singer Glenn Shorrock is born in Kent.


6/24/1945- The Zombies’ lead vocalist Colin Blunstone is born in England.


6/25/1945- Singer/songwriter Carly Simon is born in NYC. Her father was a founder of publishing powerhouse Simon & Schuster. In addition to her extensive accolade and awards, she was the 1st single person to compose, write and perform a song that would win a Grammy, Golden Glode and an Academy Award (for the film Working Girl).


6/24/1947- Drummer and Fleetwood Mack co-founder Mick Fleetwood is born in Cornwall. The Band has sold over 120 million records.


6/27/1947- The Godfather of Surf music, Jim Fuller of the band “The Surfaris” is born

6/29/1953- Men at Work musician and frontman Colin Hay is born in Scotland.


6/25/1954- Musician David Paich of Toto is born in LA.

6/26/1955- Guitarist and singer Mick Jones of The Clash Big Audio Dynamite is born in London.

6/26/1956- Musician and actor Chris Isaak is born in Stockton.


6/24/1957- Reggae artist and UB40 founding member Astro (Terrence Wilson) is born in England.


6/26/1957- Rocker and future Mrs. John McEnroe Patty Smyth is born in NYC.


6/27/1960- Connie Francis become the 1st female solo act to hit no. 1 on the U.S. singles charts with “Everybody’s somebody’s fool.”

6/30/1960- Producer and Recording Engineer extraordinaire Brendan O'Brien is born in Atlanta.


6/24/1961- Curt Smith of Tears for Fears is born in England


6/26/1961- Berlin singer Terri Nunn is born in LA. She was the 2nd option to play Princess Leia in Stars Wars btw.


Roy Orbison records what many believe is his signature song, the rock bolero “Crying.”


6/25/1963- Goergios Panayouto is born in England, the son of Greek immigrants from Cyprus. He would go on to join a popular Pop duo in the early 80’s, selling 30 records and being the 1st western pop music act to tour in China. He then embarked on a solo career, selling 100 million albums, 8 no. 1 singles in the U.S. and the UK, 4 of those from his debut album. 4 of his 5 studio albums would reach no. 1 on the U.S. charts.


6/26/1963- Harriet Wheeler, lead singer for the British alt-rock band The Sundays is born in Engl;and.


6/26/1965- The Byrds “Mr. Tambourine Man” hits no ‘ 1 on the U.S. charts. The tune was written by Bob Dylan.


6/28/1965- John Coltrane records his free Jazz magnus opus, “Ascension”.

6/30/1966- The Beatles become the first band to play in the newly built Budokan Arena, built as a shrine and martial arts venue.

Neil Diamond makes TV debut performing “Cherry, Cherry” on American Bandstand.


6/25/1967- As part of a via satellite performance for a global TV event, 400 nilllion people see the Beatles perform “All you need is love.”


6/27/1968- Elvis films his “Comeback Special” for NBC in Burbank. It wouldn’t be aired until the Holidays in December and would set ratings records and re-launch Elvis after doing movies for the previous 10 years.


6/29/1968- Tammy Wynette top the Country charts with “D-i-v-o-r-c-e.”

6/30/1968- Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo is born in New Orleans.


6/25/1969- The Hollies record “He aint heavy, he’s my brother” off the 9th album. The piano work is done by none other than Elton John, who had not broken through in the U.S. yet. How much? After time value and exchange rates, roughly $549.00 in todays dollars.


6/29/1969- The Jimi Hendrix Experience play their final concert at Mile High Stadium after less than 3 years together and 3 albums. Jimi would release one more album, perform at Woodstock and die only 14 months later at only 27 years old.


6/27/1970- The Jackson 5 hit no. 1 on the U.S. singles chart for 3rd time in 1970 with “The love you save.”


6/25/1971- The Who release this classic single off their 5th album “Who’s next?”


6/24/1974- Elton John releases his 8th album “Caribou.”


Lynyrd Skynyrd releases this track off their 2nd album “Second helping”


6/26/1974- Sonny & Cher divorced after 10 years of marriage. Four days later she marries Rock legend Greg Allman.
