Watched a condensed version of every Arch play on YouTube and some whole games recently. Been drinking a bit, so just some Saturday thoughts. Dear diary…
1) Arch’s deep ball and absolute darts in the RPO game will be lethal IF Texas can have average to above average RB and run blocking play. Elite play at either RB or run blocking and this team is playing for a NC because …
2) PK is good, just gets better and has the toys to be nasty.
3) Wingo pops with Arch much more than he did with Ewers. It’s the dart and better deep ball. It was also obvious in hindsight that Wingo was catching way too much with his body, showing the eyesight hindrance. One more year with Becton, better eyes, a natural connection with QB1 , elite tools… he goes absolute nuts this year. Roy Williams sophomore/junior year stuff. Book it.
4) I know it’s early, I know it’s Saturday and I’ve had a few, I know OU sucks, but I truly believe Texas trounces Ohio St. and moves to number 1 that following Monday.
5) BB Coaching Search: Different coaches fit different jobs. Some coaches get more out of less, some get more out of more, some are better as underdogs, some as favorites. Those who can do it all are rare. Beard was going to be very successful here because he was a great recruiter, strong Xs and Os, coached hard and was a strong motivator. That’s what they need to be looking for. A Bruce Pearl in his prime type. I don’t know many names or possibles. I just want a guy that has that type of vibe.
6) I listened to this long Alan Watts speech and I’m going to butcher a bit of it. But he says “the universe reflects back that which you are, not what you say, think or do” and that “wanting or yearning is an acknowledgement of lacking, hence perpetuating the need”. I’m not arguing about that one way or the other, but I thought aggy the whole time I listened. So much hitched to how they compare to Texas, so much not wanting to be the lil brother, so much self sabotaging and choking, perpetuating the very same stereotypes and narratives they wish so deeply to lay to rest. Just makes you feel all warm and cozy inside.
