I am on a quick layover in Dallas before returning back to Austin, but needs to pass along a quick update on Houston coach Tom Herman to everybody.

- I spoke to a source who is familiar with Herman's situation and was told there still has not been movement from Texas to hire the coach as of Sunday afternoon. As it stands, Herman remains in limbo and is unsure if Texas does want to hire him.

- From what I was told, Herman is under the impression that Texas president Greg Fenves will decide Strong's fate after the season finale against TCU. Obviously, that could change. However, from Herman's camp, he still has no idea what the plan is.

- I have heard Herman has multiple offers on the table from different programs. While Herman would love to coach at Texas, the Longhorns are running out of time. Those other programs are looking for answers right now, and nobody from Texas is willing to point Herman in the right direction.

- It is important to know that new jobs are coming open every week. Considering Texas does not have a Plan B, and the demand for Herman is at an all-time high, something needs to be done pretty soon or the Longhorns will risk missing out on their No. 1 candidate.

My take on the entire conversation is pretty simple.

If Texas cannot get its act together pretty soon, they will miss out on Herman.

From what I can tell, the Longhorns are currently behind the programs that are actively pursuing. Fenves can play the wait-and-see game, but it is a dangerous risk. An experienced athletic director would be able to properly convey the sense of urgency Texas should have right now. Texas can wait until the end of the season to begin discussions with Herman, but history usually rewards those who make bold moves.

The longer Herman remains in limbo, the less likely Texas will be to obtain Houston's head coach. Considering the source close to Herman is not 100 percent convinced Fenves is ready to remove Strong, if Texas is seriously interested, Fenves probably cannot afford to continually waste time. If Texas is arrogant enough to think Herman will magically entertain a last minute offer, I get the impression the Longhorns could get turned down because they are not actively pursuing the coach during a time where other programs have made offers.

If Fenves' is getting pressure from big money donors right now, he definitely is not going to like their reaction if Herman is hired by another school, like Baylor.
