Urban Meyer--- Here's why and how

Hard to believe that Meyer is only 55 years old. Won at 4 different programs (Bowling Green, Utah, Florida, tOSU) in season 1. Only tOSU was winning before he got there. The others were in shambles.

Hey appreciate you guys. I was a Sr. In 1977 the same as #20. I do know what an offensive and defensive line is. Check the All-American line list.

seriously....we tried Urbans defensive co Ordinator and now his Offensive co Ordinator....and there is hardly a lick of difference. Sadly, when they get away from him they aint worth a shit. I got tired of Strong and was greatly relieved when we canned him. Now I am ready to move on from Herman. I believed in him, but now I do not think there is any way he will right the ship. How any coach that was at one time an offensive genius can put that bad a product is beyond me. Somewhere out there is a great young coach. Why cant we find him?

Maybe he wasn't the genius you thought he was? And we just have to shop for a coach...

Oldhorn, to be fair, Herman should probably be given 3 more years to get “his” players

you might be on to something Bell....but I don't think he needs the time to get his players......he needs to get "his"coaches

One losing season is all it took for most fans to turn on Mack Brown. These coaches don’t have the skins on the wall that MB had or the currency.

I know why the frustration is there for fans. It’s been awful for years now and just when we think things are going back To 10 win seasons we look like turd. I’m not gonna act like I know what’s going behind closed doors but if things are not going well I’m pretty sure CDC will handle it. I’m not there yet with Tom as I was with Strong. I’m frustrated but I don’t tack on losing all these years to Tom. They’re separate and he has a big challenge on his hands.

I am not nearly so down on Orlando as I am the Offense.
Check out where Texas is in total defense, rushing and passing yards allowed. They lost 8 seniors from last year. Huge PR mistake to run away from that.

orlando had to deal with an inhuman spate of injuries. if we don't do something stupid like fire him, we will be loaded for bear next season with just a sick number of guys with live-fire reps.

the offense was fine until, incidentally, the defense started getting better the last 2 games. i get running the ball to run the clock to help your defense, but when your qb is completing 67% of his passes, passing ain't that bad an option. especially on 4th and 2 and need downs. maybe they're just in a slump and will get it going saturday. that's my hope.

I think getting your injured players back will go a long way in your level of play. Also, I’d like to see Texas find a way to get bongo joe on the football staff in some headset wearing capacity, preferably.

Gotta take what the defense gives you. If it is 500 yards passing for 6 TDs & 50 yards rushing, take it!

agree. Who cares if we get into a shoot out lets just get the W and move on. I think TH is trying to establish the run no matter what at times and we go 3 and out which puts their offense on the field fast. The other thing is those damn statistics on going for it on 4-2 on our 45. If we can’t hit a FG then punt it and do our best to get them on their 5. We can’t trust our D right now and give them good field position. I could see going for it if we had a good to great healthy D.

Bottom line is, we all want Texas football to get back to winning and competing for championships. We're all frustrated. Some are making excuses for Herman. Injuries and circumstances happen. It happens to every team, but you've got to overcome that. Bottom line is, Texas needs to win games. What is disappointing is seeing Texas make the same questionable coaching decisions and mistakes on the field week after week and the regression of the program since the LSU game. Herman needs to get this turned around pronto, or he's going to get run.

Agree. I feel like we made excuses for Strong as well. It is getting old but I’m hoping we don’t have to go do another search and start over again. Now that we have a good AD it maybe worth looking though.

No there's a huge difference. Urban Meyer cheats. He just does. Urban didn't turn a blind eye to twenty women being accosted by his football players. He tried to intervene between a bat sh!t crazy coach and his bat sh!t crazy wife out of respect for his mentor, the father of said coach. Urban Meyer didn't hop on a plane with a young black recruit and say "Do you like white girls? Those white girls are going to loooove you!" (Kendal Briles)
You think daddy didn't know son was doing that?
Urban used $100 dollar hand shakes by boosters and obviously a lot of play for pay.

But now that the NCAA has basically made play for pay legal, urban loses much of his repetiot. You can't cheat if it ain't cheating. This isn't winning at all costs-- this is taking the NCAAs new rule and using it to our utmost advantage.
So I guess you had a problem with Jimmy Johnson as the Miami and Cowboys coach? You think he ever turned a blind eye? He’s one of the all time greats and rightfully so.

I think it’s a lot deeper with Meyer than you’re willing to admit.https://www.sportingnews.com/us/amp...-violation-recruiting-drugs-program-will-musc

Jimmy johnson admitted publicly that he knew there was shady sh!t going on at Miami. MIchael Irving BRAGGED about it. Watch the U on ESPN 30 for 30. Them dudes were straight gangsta.

Now when Jimmy was with the cowgirls, you're not coaching kids anymore. You're coaching grown ass men. And when grown ass men buy a condo a mile from the work out facility and hold coke fueled orgies every day after practice with all the strippers in dallas-- Jimmy isn't responsible for that. Jimmy's job was to win.

Now that the money aspect is being taken off the table in college football, do I have problems with hiring a coach with a checkered past? Nope. Welcome to the new ARMS RACE. The vapid heads in California want to go down this road? Fiiiiiiiine. We have oil money literally comes out of our ass in this state. We will straight up BUY every five star at every position. They called down the thunder so we need to bring it.

And btw-- Urban Meyer and Jimmy Johnson were both shit human beings, that were/are hellacious football coaches.

If anyone hasn't watched the 30 for 30 show about the Miami football program, you should. It will blow your mind. Those dudes were straight up gangstas, who could more than back it up. People hated Miami with a passion and were tired of them bullying teams and winning, but no could bow up to them and beat them. They won by raw talent and intimidation.

The good 'ol days in Dallas in the 90's when the Cowboys were kicking ass and taking names. If the walls could talk from within the white house there. I'd have love to have been a fly on the wall in there. I miss the days of Cowboys dominance. I would give my left one for another Super Bowl title!

clob, I'm with you on the next hire. Open the check book. Screw the "right fit at Texas mentality" and hire a bad ass, win at all cost coach. Take the effing gloves off! I'm tire of Texas being the laughingstock of college football. Let's go!

I recall vividly the venom and hatred of all things Jerry Jones/ Jimmy Johnson around 88’/89’ when Jerry bought the Cowboys. Being from Dallas as a kid, you worshipped Landry whether they were 1-15 or making the playoffs etc. Then a funny thing happened about 1991/1992, the Cowboys started kicking ass and taking names and all of a sudden people got over being mad and were proud to have Jimmy Johnson as the head coach. Winning cures all my friends, and then a couple years later, right when Dallas was gearing up to go on the greatest dominating decade of all time, Jerry Jones tore it all down...

also, make no mistake about it, I agree with Clob I’m just pointing out it’s hard to say Urban is only tainted a certain degree while Briles is a way worse person etc. coaching staffs are set up with buffers etc so the head coach never ‘appears” to know any of the undesirable things are going on but there’s enough dirt on Meyer and Briles to say otherwise. Would I hire both of them and have damage control experts on hand?.....in a heartbeat

You know the why. Dude can coach.

The powers that be don't want him because he has some stank on him. Serious stank.

But with the NCAA ruling that players can now be paid for their likeness this takes MOST of the stank off Urban. The coach that beat his wife, I'm calling that a wash. I think she beat on him just as much as he beat on her. I'm not condoning it in any way , but like Chris Rock said, you gotta find somebody that likes what you like.
"Two crack heads can stay together forever..."

Urban is a known cheater and the NCAA has basically taken cheating off the table, so why are we acting all high and mighty about hiring a guy that literally can't cheat anymore?

What say ye?

I mean the stank is stankier than you give it credit for. The coach who beat his wife is just the latest iteration. Remember the murderer at florida?Behind closed doors he was already a problem at florida long before he started murdering people. And that doesnt even get into the 31 players of his that were arrested while he was at florida. And the dozen or so arrested while at osu. Or getting into how he basically just quit and left them in a hole that they really still havent gotten out of as they havent been relevant since he left. Then there's how he left osu. He's not exactly a stalwart of running a tight ship.

With all that said, he would turn texas around and have them winning quick. The rest of the big 12 would be in trouble.

But I believe in the public eye, his stink is less stinky than Briles stink. Not going to get into if the public is right or wrong, just my opinion on how it would be received.

Briles is a cuss word in football circles and his reputation has completely shattered. Meyer could be just as bad but was better about it. But not really a comparison you want to make, that's really setting the bar low.

I remember when we played Miami in the Cotton Bowl back in the day, how they all wore Fatigue cloths and shit when they came off the bus and walkin tough and they did whip our ass that day!

I was at that game. It was cold and nasty that day. Made it that much tougher watching the beat down that Miami put on Texas, 46-3. In that game, Miami had something like 220+ yards in penalties, most of them for taunting and unsportsmanlike conduct. Due to that display of all of the taunting in that game by Miami, new rules were put into place the following year regarding teams taunting.

James Patton told a story that I over heard once that during the coin toss, the Miami captain basically said "just give these mutha fvckas the ball and lets get this over with."
Gino Toretta hosts a show in XM radio daily, and a while back he told a story about the 91 cotton Bowl and he basically said the Miami dudes hated Dallas and were pissed off the entire time they were there. It was cold and the weather was crappy and Dallas sucked and some trash talking had started during the week and Miami just wanted to beat that ass and get back to their beach.
