On Wednesday, March 19th, Texas will face off against the Xavier Musketeers in a play-in game for the 11th seed where the winner will go up against the 6th seed out of the Midwest region, the Illinois Fighting Illini on Friday, March 21st.
Xavier Guard, Ryan Conwell has been on a tear entering tomorrow’s game averaging 25 ppg, 58% FG, and 57% 3FG in the month of March. Rodney Terry has emphasized just how important it is for the team as a collective to execute the game plan on the defensive end while stating that there will be a committee of defenders on Conwell throughout the ball game where each individual will have to make the game tough for him.
As Rodney Terry was looking back into the season, he pointed out that the games in which his team played their most complete/best game of the season were against Mississippi State and Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament.
When asked who this Xavier team reminds them of, Tre Johnson and Kadin Shedrick both saw a resemblance to a team they split games with in the season in Vanderbilt, due to the style of defense that they share as well as their emphasis to get out in transition. Another team they were reminded of was the Kentucky Wildcats who the Horns beat at home 82-78
With Tre Johnson having a phenomenal Freshman season and being projected as a top-10 pick in this upcoming NBA Draft, he was asked if he’s thought about either declaring for the Draft or staying for another season with Texas to which Johnson said, “I haven’t even thought about anything like that… my thought have just been making it to the tournament and getting in. Now it’s just been focused on Xavier.”
