The Longhorns (35-3) and the Gamecocks (34-3) will face off for the 4th time this season and Texas will need to tie the series in order to advance to the National Championship game. I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t rooting for Duke last weekend. The Blue Devils led by 4 to start the 4th quarter but were absolutely lost the last 4-5 minutes of the game, making some of the worst late game decisions I’ve seen. I half expected to see Les Miles sitting on the Duke bench as they went on to lose 50-54.
Texas can beat South Carolina but they aren’t being given much of a chance by the experts. To be fair, Vic’s record against Dawn when the stakes are high is really bad. At Mississippi State and Texas, Vic is 0-6 in SEC tournament finals (5) and a National Championship game. Maybe it’s a good thing they’re meeting up before the title game?
Geography will be favoring SC for the third time though not as drastically as in Columbia or Greenville. It’s 1,144 miles from Austin to Tampa, 482 from Columbia.
Texas has to avoid the terrible offensive stretches they endured in the 2 losses this season.
“We've had to call [those stretches] 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show,'" Schaefer said. "I told [the team] the other night, what do you want to watch? The first quarter of the SEC tournament, where I thought we were in good shape? Or do you want to watch the second quarter? And they're like, 'OK ... we'll watch the second quarter.' You've got to learn from that. The film don't lie."
Friday will be the fifth time over the past 25 years that teams will meet in the women's Final Four for a fourth time in a season. Three of those were UCONN-ND (2011, 2012, 2013) and the other was Maryland-Duke in 2006.
