well first of all why is Paul Finebaum on tv? Did anyone hear Finebaum expound on Colin Kapernick last week? Sometimes I think people in Alabama are hopeless. And remember that saying he has a perfect face for radio that's PF to a t. And they had some underachieving wr from tOSU on last night as well. Anyway these people basically dissed the Big XII. But they missed the boat entirely on week 1.

Look Bama is probably 14 points better than anyone else in the SEC and that may not change even though the season has just started.

The same goes for Stanford and the Pac XII. Barring injuries and if they win at ND next month Stanford could have smooth sailing into the playoffs they are just that much better than everyone else. I know the season just started but still....

The biggest thing is this. The Houston Cougars are for real. With social media and all it's easy to notice that coach Tom Herman is a star in the making and the prospect of Houston going 13-0 is likely. The chances of the cougars crashing the playoff parties in Atlanta and Phoenix on New Year's Eve are very real. And if that happens that means that two P5 conferences aren't getting invited to the party and one of those could be the Big XII

and speaking of the Big XII we came out ok in non con play. The biggest game on the schedule was UT/ND and the Longhorns brought it home. Also WV beat MO and hey as long as it isnt' Vandy or KY a win over the SEC is a win over the SEC. KSU lost to Stanford we all saw that coming and as for OK

you know what I think? I think if OK can find a go to wr they'll still be a contender. Looking back on the Houston game you could see that they're missing that. We all know that Baker Mayfield is one concussion away from his career being over and he knows it to. I thought he was reluctant to tuck the ball in and run with it because of the threat of injury. So he scrambled around looking for someone that wasn't there.

I think their defense is above average and will probably get better as the season progresses.. But the cons of a big bad Mike Stoops defense is penalties how many did they call on them? More than a few I can assure you. Big brother is going to have to tell little brother to can the crap or if not it could be a sad night in OK on 9/17.

The next big non con game is this Saturday as AR goes to TCU. I hate AR actually more than OK. Any of you old SWC head remember those AR fans? Stupid hog hats, cheers that are even dummer than a&m and that's hard to do. Drunk, obscene you name it. Never liked Frank Broyles he was the original SWC turncoat who ran to the SEC. They've been in the SEC for 25 years now what have they done in fb? Nothing. Why do they call it the Broyles Award? Because of all the "legendary" coaches who coaches under him? How come those legends never beat Darrell Royal. No they should call it the Darrell Royal since he dominated those FB and those legendary asst's. of his. And talk about unlikeable coaches. Barry Switzer, and Jimmy Johnson good lord Jim Harbaugh is downright charming compared to those guys. And lets not forget Jerry Jones. Why should I pull for a team that's killed for us the last two years? Only cause they're playing AR. And I hope Frank and Jerry will be sitting in the press box to watch it happen.

Finally did you notice all the top ten teams that lost or barely won. Sure am glad college fb season is back.

after a few days to digest everything.
1. The SEC looks bad. Out of 14 teams, 11 had games I would describe as embarrassing. But with that said, Bama looks dominant.
2. Texas was the surprise team that everyone had picked as a surprise team. It sounds like an oxymoron, because it is. It was easy to see the team was loaded with talent, but no one was sure if we were going to have the scheme down and someone at QB who can run it effectively. This season is going to be fun.
3. Our rivals are pretty unhappy about a resurgent Texas. I was pretty surprised at the bitterness from fan bases who had no stake in the outcome of that game.
4. We learned more in Week 1 then we will learn from Week 2 this year.

Man I hear ya. I checked out a Baylor board you wouldn't believe the nasty responses I read.

I disagree a little bit about OU needing a go-to receiver. Baker made a ton of bad decisions in the 2nd half, most notably his reluctance to go with his 1st read. He looked past all the easy positive plays in search of the big ones that just weren't there. It's like he wanted to do everything himself instead of letting their playmakers have a shot. Allen Iverson-esk in a sooner football uni. Tale of 2 halves for sure.
OU SUCKS, but I think they are a much better team than what we happily witnessed in the 2nd half of that game.

That's sad. No reason to hate.

Imho, if they don't find the kind of caliber receiver that Sterling Shepard was it could be a long season in Norman.

It was the first game and all but you may be discounting the tremendous help I thought Stanford received in that game from horrendous calls. Yeah it happens but KSU isn't a team to be taken lightly and they sure didn't run roughshod through KSU without getting more than the wanted from them.

Sterling Shepard made life MUCH easier in their passing game and surely will be missed at ou. Not that I was pulling for the sooners......like at all....but I noticed play after play baker would pass up what was right in front of him. My only guess is that he wanted the big explosive plays over methodical dinks & dunks. His decisions running the option were very odd as well.
I only caught the 4th qtr live and immediately started the game over on dvr (god I love that thing).

But I guarantee my Sooners will look like world beaters this weekend!!! And all of sooner land will be wondering how I'm the world we lost last weekend. Never fails.

Main thing I learned is something we all know. OU Sucks.

Reality is there wasn't much separation between OU and Houston. It was a 10 pt game with a kick6. If he makes that (and he has the leg), you have a tie game. I was never sold on OU though last year or this. We dominated the lines last year and if TCU would have just not played Sawyer in the 1st half they lose that game. Get Baylor without their starter either. I think OU was good, just not playoff good. Still they played a good half against Clemson so you never know. Baylor still scares me the most because of the athletes they have. Hell they rushed for 600 yds in their bowl game. Their big drop off comes next year.

What I really learned is we can win any game we play, and we can lose about half of them. Gut tells me 9-3 this year and playoffs the year after.

We have long way to go, but my 8-4 preseason pick is looking good. granted I had thought we'd win one we shouldn't and blow one we should win (At Tech?). Have to be optimistic but reality says teams adjusted and confused Heard after the Cal game last year. we'll see some adjustment and we need to have a righteous effort Saturday. No Iowa St type effort this year.
I think TCU will have its hands full with Arkansas this week. I hate Fat Ass but I think they have a good team. Not sold on the Hill kid at TCU.
OKie St plays Pittsburg and Baylor before we face them. We'll know a lot more after that.

The blueprint for how to beat ou was designed by Texas last year, and copied by both Clemson and Houston.... dominate the LOS and kill the run and it is over. Mayfield isnt good enough to win a game with his arm alone and without the run game the offense becomes too one dimensional and sputters.....

And fwiw - im ot even trying to bash on the Sooners, but if you watch those 3 games - all losses- you will see the common thread... and that thread is the run was taken away and forced mayfield to try to win with his arm.....

Defensing to take away the run, does not always mean the run is taken away. Sometimes you know it is coming and you simply cannot stop it.
