I was shocked to see a former classmate I went to high school coaching the team my nephew plays on. We talked for a few and I asked how coaching was going for him. He said he enjoyed but with all the changed they on how they practice is a debbie downer for him. He told me that they are not allowed to tackle or show the players how to tackle. I was caught off guard and asked him how are these kids suppose to learn proper technique. He told me that they only use practice dummies and not actual bodies. Has anyone heard of this or is this going on in your kids district? He also told me that if a kid gets hit once in practice he can no longer get hit or tackled for he rest of the week. I know football is violent but is this what the sport has come to?

Middle school sucks but I guess it sucks even more now. Sorry to hear that. Players will not know proper technique and screw up their tackling. Does UT recruit all these kids? It would explain a lot.

I have a family member that is a high school FB coach in the DFW area. Several years ago, he said he wouldn't let his son who was in grade school at the time play youth tackle football because he wanted the son to learn proper tackling techniques in middle school FB. Little did he know the rules would change.

this is not universal. though we do emphasize the whole hawk tackling, i'm still a get the head across the bow guy. i also enjoy a physical downhill run game blocking over that bucket step silliness, shielding sideways crap.
