What's with all the decommits?

Not just from Texas. OU had more than we did. Pretty much every team worth anything has a handful of decommits.

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, but fill me in, please.

For Texas:
Quentin Johnston - staff changes had a big impact, he was close with Mehringer
Mookie Cooper - things got weird quickly with him, out of state so always at risk, also OSU success vs Texas success probably played into that
Ethan Pouncey - his bro is transferring from Texas to Florida (basically fell down the depth chart), he has the chance to go play with him there.
Van Fillinger - switched right after staff changes came out, from Utah so Utah success vs Texas success certainly played into it (until the Alamo bowl)
Princely - well, he may be back anyways so lets see. Texas struggles plus negative recruiting about Orlando's D-line scheme hurt. He likes the new scheme
Ty Jordan - another victim of the staff changes. Hopefully we replace his role with Kelvontay Dixon.

It's also just kids today and how recruiting works. So easy to develop relationships with multiple schools, kids travel all around the US to see schools. More pressure to commit early given early signing day. Decommits and transfer portal will hit everyone frequently, even the top programs.

I brought this up 2 months ago. Big programs have decommits obviously all for different reasons. I’m sure some of it has to do with immediate play time some have to do with changes in coaching and some have to do with family or being away from home. It is what it is!
