Does he fight BU in the courts ala Mike Leach? Trying to get as much $ back as he can, while hurting his chances of moving on to a new gig.

Does any big D1 school touch him with a 10 foot pole? Or is he relegated to say HC job like
Washington St job ala Mike Leach? Does second chance Bob give him a job on his offensive staff?

NFL Assistant coaching gig?

Does he go back to Texas HS ranks or does he have to move to HS in another state like Bama? Does he ever coach again???

I'd think he takes a year off with a half hearted attempt in the courts vs BU. Gives up on that. And sells a middling program on how he got a raw deal as a fall guy, lies and says he knew nothing (like he did with HC Chris Petersen and Uwachu..whatever the rapist's name was from Boise), and him getting a fresh start and delivering wins the right way this time. Or maybe he will just go away.

Heck, just thought about this. Aggie is gonna need a new HC soon. Would they dare call him up?

Highly doubt it. But then again, they are Aggie. 9 months from now this story could be gone if nothing more is released. And we already know Aggie is Aggie and they do Aggie things. And they want to be relevant so badly.

I believe he will be coaching in the 2017 season at D1 without a doubt. This year is unlikely to do anything. You may be right about aggsy. Schools will line up to get him.

He's no spring chicken either. This could be the end for him. Maybe an OC gig in the NFL, but his system doesn't really translate in the NFL.

Think it depends on how bad it was.

I disagree. This is similar to the Baylor will never fire Briles sentiment. There are lines that he crossed. Other programs don't want to take that on. He has no credibility in a recruits home anymore, so even if you do hire him he isn't going to be the same coach.

Due to his age and baggage he's finished as a P5 head coach. I think you will see him as a HC at a mid major in 2017.

To a point but not in the Dave Bliss untouchable category. Definitely worse that Bobby Petrino or Jim Tressel.
Interesting comparison Tressel vs. Briles.

Tressel cheated. So far, no allegation of an NCAA infraction by Briles. But paying for tattoos vs. trying to get rape victims to change their stories? And Tressel never coached again despite an outstanding record. Petrino as an adulterer is a saint in this match.

As long as Briles learned his lesson, I don't care where he goes. But you can bet I'll be steering my daughter away...

(Son is already accepted at UT-Austin! Liberal Arts for now, and Aerospace Engineering later, God-willing. Hook 'em, baby!!!)

Next year for me buddy! She's leaning on UT-Austin Mechanical Engineering program but she has another year to go. Working on ACT and SAT math scores. One excited father right here!

I don't think Tressel has been blackballed. He's the president at Youngstown St. and he just got inducted into the CFB HOF. I think he could still be coaching if we wanted to, at least at a mid major like Petrino.

Theoretically, your analysis is what should happen. I myself would never hire him, but I just don't think that is what will happen. I have seen many interviews of him and he comes across very genuine. I believe he can convince most of how he would never let something like this to ever happen again. JMHO.

I guess I don't know how deep this is going to go for Briles, but... I mean, it isn't as if we haven't seen coaches have a scandal... take a few years off... and then make a comeback somewhere lower-profile.

I'm not saying I'd want it at my school, but if we're talking purely about what could happen and not what should or shouldn't happen, you guys don't think he could end up popping up at UCF or UConn or Memphis or something like that 4 or 5 years down the road? Or, you know, an SEC school who needs a quick change? I mean, as sad as it is, people like their football to the extent that Baylor let this go as long as they possibly could before they did anything about it. And while Baylor has certainly had its issues in the past that have raised questions before, it's not like their predisposed to be THAT much worse than every other administration and/or fanbase out there. It's not like things like that ONLY happen at Baylor.

I agree that he won't be coaching anywhere prominent again, but I don't think it's all that similar to the feeling that Briles wouldn't be fired (without more public evidence tying him to cover-ups, etc.). His moribund employment prospects at any P5 program seem pretty obvious to me, but it wasn't obvious that Briles was going to get the boot by any means. I mean, Chip Brown's Baylor sources confirmed that the only reason Briles was fired today was because Starr unexpectedly played hardball with the regents instead of going quietly back to his tenured position in the law school, as they had expected. Their BOR planned to sacrifice Starr, release only excerpts of the Pepper Hamilton report, and allow the human detritus to continue as head coach.

Either that or roughnecking on a oil rig in Odessa...

It seems amazing that they thought that might work.

He goes aggie in mid November, it's just the type of 100 year opportunity they've been waiting for.

Hook 'em

The NCAA hit Tressel with a 5 year show cause penalty. I think 2017 is the earliest he can coach again.

If the allegations are true about Briles I'd expect the NCAA to double Tressel's show cause length for Briles.

Briles is done as college HC.

I just don't think he can get that scarlet letter from around his neck.

Look, let's all be real and stop dancing around it for the sake political correctness. If this happens at a football factory, like Miami in the 80's and 90's or Oklahoma in the 70s or 80's-- people would be like "well ya. What did you expect. It's the Caines or its the Sooners". BUT, because it happened at a private, religious, conservative, Southern, Baptist university, the sleeze factor goes up. I remember when I asked Chuck Reedy, who was recruiting me back in the day, if it was true that you couldn't DANCE on campus OR drink on campus even if you were 21.
He was like "yes, that's true. Baylor adheres to the core of Baptist values....blah blah blah".

So you go from a super conservative, incredibly strict school to a rape factory in 2 decades. That's the part that just blows my mind. Fvck I'm getting old.

Agree. I think age works against him more than the fallout. That's what Petrino had going. I'm still amazed at how Urban Meyer is able to distance himself from all the criminal behavior during his time at Florida.

If true, "What a shock!" [/sarcasm]

Urban did nothing wrong and its funny a Texas fan talking about criminal behavior.
Take a hard look at all the off the field problems you have had over the years!

Yes, we've had our drug problems but they've been dealt with. I don't think we've ever had a serial murderer on our roster however (i.e. Aaron Hernandez under Urban Meyer at Florida).
