Why does the NCAA not retroactively add back bowl stats?

Given that they count now, why aren't they retroactively added for players who played when the rule was different? It's just dumb that Ashton Jeanty might break Barry Sanders' record in a bowl game when we know Sanders had 222 uncounted yards in his own bowl game.
