Stop taking your deer to a processor and do it yourself! My stepson folded up one of our young 8 points three days ago like a lawn chair. I gutted, skinned and quartered it by myself. The buck rested on ice since then. Tonight, I took 5 hours to debone, cut, ground and package it all myself with equipment that didn’t cost me an initial $200. Get a vacuum sealer and bags, a grinder attachment to your mixer and two really good fillet knives, and you’ll be good to go.
He ended up with 45 pounds of venison to take home. He’s got steaks, stew meat, chili meat and 90/10 ground. Granted, I can be really meticulous when it comes to removing the meat from the bone, but if you take your time, it will pay dividends on the back end.
