Ok boys a new NFL thread and tomorrows games

Well we have Baltimore/Kansas City. Lamar Jackson was the MVP. Kansas City has experience been there done that. But the most honorable Justin Tucker will kick a 50+ field goal and Devin Duvernay will score a td and the ravens will roll.

Somebody mentioned this earlier this week but this is not Detroit/San Francisco. Look at the coaches it's the horns/aggies.

The 49ers coach is a horn Kyle Shanahan
The lions coach is an aggie Dan Campbell
No wonder the 49ers are favored.

5 Things I'm Thinking About The Hire Of Kenny Baker....

Here are five initial thoughts on the hire of Miami Dolphins assistant coach Kenny Baker after having a couple of hours to marinate on the move.

1. I've asked myself how I've thought this hire likely happened, especially as someone who has hired before and is in the position of hiring at this exact moment. What is the question that was asked that brought Kenny Baker about as the answer.?

Was it "Who is the best and most proven college coach in the country that I could hire?" Probably not.

Was it, "Who is the best and most proven recruiter in the country that I could hire?" Probably not.

Was it, "Who is the best and most proven that my Texas money can afford?" Probably not.

Was it, "Who is the best guy flying under the radar in the industry and is going to be everyone's desired target in 5 years? Are they hungry? Do they want to be great? Who can I hire that gives me the best 5 years of their coaching career when they are at their best and not riding the coat-tails of what they once did?"

Maybe, very much maybe.

Somewhere along the line in the last couple of weeks, someone that Sark trusts a lot gave him Baker's name. Someone gave him one hell of an endorsement as an answer to the aspect of this hire Sarkisian cared about a lot... and here we are.

2. I think everyone has to be careful not to get carried away with the hyperbole in any direction at this point. Sarkisian hired a wild-card... someone that really doesn't fit the profile of what everyone thought he'd be looking for. He lacks experience at this level and he's never recruited at a high level. It doesn't mean that he can't succeed, but it does mean that he comes without a guarantee on the box, so to speak. How could one possibly put a grade on such an unknown commodity? I think we'll all have to wait and see.

3. It's clear Sark likes to hire from the NFL if when he gets an opportunity. He did it with the wide receivers coaching position last year after hiring the alleged hottest college wide receiving coaching target (Brennan Marion) just a year earlier. He has a very similar profile to Rod Wright, who was the favorite to get the job earlier this week. If we judge what Sark was looking for based on the common elements of both a Wright/Baker hire... it would seem to suggest he was looking for a young up and comer with NFL experience as the major piece of the building block.

4. I'm a little stunned that the Longhorns didn't hire someone with some real proven recruiting chops. It was the first thing mentioned to me on the day Bo Davis left town by multiple people. Texas HAS to start recruiting defensive linemen at a higher level, as not a single interior player that Bo Davis recruited in this go round at Texas has been remotely ready at any time to be a major contributor. The interior of the defensive line remains a major position of concern, partly because of what Davis didn't do well enough. Is Baker going to do better? There's no real way to answer.

5. What a massive moment in Baker's career! Seriously, good for him. Earlier this week, he had to be wondering if he would even have a job this season with the news that Miami would be changing up its defensive staff with the departure of Vic Fangio. Maybe he goes with Fangio to Philly? Maybe not. Maybe he stays in Miami in the same position? Maybe not. It's a tough world out there in the NFL and as of today, he's working for a program that just played in the NCAA playoffs and has a job that will serve as one hell of a platform should he seize the moment. It's a cool story.

Old men yelling at clouds in this thread

So the Luka thread got me thinking about one of things that has really turned me off on basketball. Let me just say I love basketball and have been playing and watching basketball my whole life. I have 4 boys and have coached their teams over the years as well. I still watch basketball but it is now mostly just my boys games, the Longhorns, and an NBA game here and there but I used to watch any and every game I could.

All that being said, basketball is getting really tough with the rules about travelling and carrying the ball which are effectively non-existent anymore. To a lesser extent this has been an issue in the NBA forever where they let the superstars get away with a little extra hop and carrying the ball a bit. However it has now infiltrated every level of basketball and is getting ridiculous. I watched 7th and 8th grade boys this past week and the carrying the ball is just how they dribble now. The only travelling I see called now is when a player goes to the floor.

Just curious what other issues do you all see these days that either drive you nuts or makes watching a game (any sport) almost unwatchable?

The Texas Card House War Room: More on Baker, Muhammad, Tacario Davis, KJ Lacy and more...

Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian hired Miami Dolphins assistant defensive line coach Kenny Baker, which led to an obvious question on Thursday.

Who?

Baker was relatively unknown before we learned he would replace Bo Davis on Sarkisian’s staff. Heck, I checked in with multiple sources in Miami who knew nothing about him before finally finding people who knew anything about Baker.

The best way to start this discussion about Baker is to discuss the big picture before diving into specifics about Sarkisian’s recent addition.

* I was told Sarkisian believes he has a team that can compete for a national championship in 2024. Ketch previously reported that fact and Sarkisian’s aggressiveness in the transfer portal is a reflection of that belief.

* There is a belief inside the building that Sarkisian’s offense will be hard to contain once Texas enters the SEC. I was told Sarkisian’s offense is designed to beat man coverage, which you rarely see in the Big 12. The staff believes they will be able to create matchup nightmares and have instant success in the SEC this season.

* As for the defense, Texas wants to stop the run, get pressure with four defensive linemen, and play man on the backend. That is why Sarkisian is focused on improving the secondary during this offseason.

With that background, let us proceed to Baker.

* I was told Sarkisian is starting to infiltrate his staff with NFL players because he wants coaches who understand X’s and O’s. In addition, Sarkisian wants coaches who know how to teach and develop young players. Sarkisian is very focused on the developmental aspect of the program. That is the reason why he hired former Jacksonville receivers coach Chris Jackson before last season.

* One great source in Miami told me Baker is viewed as very talented. Multiple people said Baker is a great coach who understands how to teach defensive linemen.

* One of Baker’s strengths is his use of analytics. That is a trait my sources believe will help Sarkisian and the defensive staff.

* Another word used to describe Baker was “workhorse.”

* Not only is Baker viewed as a hard worker, one source told me “he never bitched” about his workload. In fact, Baker relished working long hours and on weekends.

* I was told not to overreact to Baker being a Senior Bowl coach. Those roles are given to assistants who are working their way up the coaching ladder.

* Nobody was able to predict Baker's success as a recruiter at Texas.

Overall, Sarkisian’s hiring of Baker is not sexy. However, Sarkisian hired a young coach with the reputation of being a hard worker with the ability to teach X’s and O’s.

* While the Longhorns wait to hear the final word on Jabbar Muhammad's recruitment in the coming days, the pursuit for a high-level cornerback will not end if they miss out. Whether it's taking advantage of the situation at Michigan or pursuing someone in the sprig, the quest to upgrade the roster isn't over.

* Nothing has changed since my last report on Muhammad this week. There's a sense that Oregon is the team to beat and that they have flexed some NIL muscle in their recruitment.

* If you're wondering, I've kicked the tires on interest levels between Arizona All-Pac 12 cornerback Tacario Davis and the Longhorns, but I've come across zero signs at this point that there's mutual interest. Give the connections between David and Texas co-DC/linebackers coach Johnny Nansen, there was some early thought that the Longhorns might emerge as major players for Davis, but it seems more likely that he could exit the Portal and return to Arizona. " I know from their side, there’s a lot of confidence that he’s gonna be coming back and there’s been a pretty good success rate with that," a source told me.

* I told with one Arizona source this week about Nansen and was told, "That guy is a rock star and just been looking for a place to show people how much of a rock star he is. He just needs a bad ass opportunity and he'll be acknowledged as a rock star by everyone soon enough."

* I still fully expect the Longhorns to add another interior defensive lineman in late April or May if a target isn't found soon through any of the places that have seen head coaching turnover.

* Spoke to a source that got a chance to see Texas cornerback signee Santana Wilson last wee at the Senior Bowl and this is what he passed along: "I really liked his demeanor and approach all week. He has a tough task as most of the receivers on his team have played well over the four days of practice. He’s had to shake off a couple plays that didn’t go his way, but he’s been able to follow plays when he’s allowed catches with pass breakups or solid coverage. He built a nice little competition with Clemson signee Bryant Wesco, and they’ve battled all week. He’s a no-nonsense type of player who has really just gone about his business this week. Everything has a bit of a caveat at this event since they have rarely gone fully live, but I can’t remember a time when he’s had a bad play so far this week. He’s been beat a couple times but the receivers he’s covered have also been good in their own right.

* The same source on Texas OL signee Brandon Baker: "It’s been more difficult to evaluate the linemen since there were only a couple of brief one-on-one periods through the four days leading up to the game. Still, Baker stood out from the group in pretty much every way. He’s bounced back and forth between the tackle spots, but he’s played loose and really looks the part of a top offensive lineman. He’s looked exceptional in all the other elements of the practices, and was someone that was bringing players together on his team, speaking to his leadership abilities as well."

* How fast is new Texas running back commitment Raycine Guillory? If you watch his film, the simple answer is “fast enough.” Guillory told OB he won’t be able to run track this spring but as a freshman, he ran a 10.8 and he said he’s in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash. By comparison, Jaydon Blue’s fastest time as a freshman was a 10.97 (Blue ran a 10.7 as a junior).

* How highly is Guillory thought of by those with Aledo connections? A certain former Longhorn five-star from Aledo thinks Guillory is the real deal and even compared him to Bijan Robinson in terms of his potential.

* KJ Lacey had planned to visit Texas this weekend with then uncommitted teammate wide receiver Ryan Williams, but that is no longer expected to happen. Williams, of course, re-committed to Alabama on Wednesday. Lacey is reportedly set to visit Miami this weekend while in town for a 7v7 Tournament. Look for Lacey to get back to Austin later in the spring, likely during the spring season, where he can watch Texas practice.

* Speaking of Texas commits and Miami, 2025 defensive tackle commitment Brandon Brown is also expected to visit Miami this weekend. He’ll also hit USC next weekend. Needless to say, getting Brown on campus will be a top priority for new Texas DL coach Kenny Baker once he’s officially announced.

* When Deuce Williams committed to Texas on January 1, I asked him which of his Shadow Creek teammates was most likely to join him at Texas. His answer … WR Jacorey Watson. Watson attended UT’s junior day last week wearing a Texas beanie, so that’s a small, yet positive sign. “(Deuce) is on me every day at school. If I come to school wearing a Texas hat he’s always on me. If I wear a different school, he’s on me about that,” Watson said. “Me and him a are locked in. We’re planning to be teammates.”

* Watson got some one-one-one time with Chris Jackson during the visit and the two discussed how Watson would potentially fit in with UT’s scheme and depth chart. This weekend, Watson will hit LSU. Texas, LSU, Ole Miss and Missouri are the four schools standing out in this one but it’ll likely come down to either UT or LSU in the end. Look for a decision in the summer.

* Prior to last weekend, Texas had already offered one Bridgeland offensive lineman in Jonte Newman. That number became two during UT’s junior day with the staff extending an offer to Ryan Fodje. “It felt good to get that offer. Texas is a good school,” Fodje said. “It was a true honor to be able to talk to the Texas coaches. Coach Flood is a very awesome coach and I look forward to meeting up with them sometime in the future.” Fodje will visit Texas A&M and Houston this weekend and says he likely won’t make a commitment until after his senior season ends.

One 2025 hoops recruit to keep an eye in the coming months is Orlando (Florida) Oak Ridge small forward Jamier Jones, who ranks 26th overall nationally in the current Rivals rankings and has the Longhorns among his favorites, along with Kanas, Cincinnati, Ohio State, South Carolina, Houston and Providence. “I’ve got good options already, but I’m still open to everyone,” Jones told Rivals this week. “Everyone wants me on the wing, and that’s definitely where I feel comfortable. It’s just all about where I’m connecting the most with the staff and the opportunity when that time comes.”

Another 2025 hoops kid that is talking up the Longhorns is rising 6-7, 200-pound forward Winters Grady. The nation's No.17 ranked overall player is from Lake Oswego, Oregon, which just happens to Kevin Love's old stomping grounds. According to Grady, the Longhorns are on a list with Oregon, UCLA and Washington as the schools that contact him the most. His mom (Oregon State) and ad (Colorado State) both played college hoops. It looks like the Longhorns are running fourtth on his list at the moment. “I want to visit UCLA and take officials to Oregon and Indiana," Grady told Rivals. "Those are the three I know for sure.”

President Biden calls out Trump's confusion

Mr. Biden, whose age of 81 has prompted concerns among voters, also attempted to flip the script on the 77-year-old Mr. Trump. “Have you noticed he’s a little confused these days?” Mr. Biden asked, noting that Mr. Trump had recently mixed up former Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina, another candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California.

President Biden then said, " Ooh, Earth Rider, thanks for the Great Lakes. I wonder why…"

OT- converting an arena from hockey rink to a basketball court

The Dallas Stars played a 1:00 PM game today against the Washington Capitals on the ice at the American Airlines Center and won an exciting 5-4 overtime game, putting Texas Hockey in a good playoff position heading into the NHL All Star break. The Mavericks are playing there tonight at 8:00 against the Sacramento Kings. I've always thought it was cool how the crews could convert the arena from hockey to hoops or vice verse. Have any of you ever worked on such a crew? I found a time lapse video of the arena in Denver being converted. I'm looking forward to seeing the "bust" Luka Doncic with another great game (but doubtful he gets 73 again). And here's the time lapse

Muschamp stepping down to analyst role at Georgia

Georgia has announced that former Alabama defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson has joined the Georgia football coaching staff as the co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach.

That job was previously held by Will Muschamp. Georgia announced that Muschamp will move to the role of off-field analyst.

“We are pleased to announce Travaris Robinson as our new Co-Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach,” said Georgia head coach Kirby Smart. “Travaris has 17 years of college coaching experience, including over a decade in the SEC mentoring some of the top defenses statistically in the NCAA.

“We are excited about the addition of Coach Robinson and his family to the University of Georgia, while having the opportunity to retain Coach Muschamp and his family on our staff.”

Vince McMahon Accused of Sex Trafficking

Lawsuit: WWE's Vince McMahon Accused of Sex Trafficking; Brock Lesnar Named in Report

Former WWE staffer Janel Grant filed a lawsuit Thursday in which she alleged that longtime WWE chairman and CEO Vince McMahon sexually abused her and sex trafficked her to others within the company.

According to Khadeeja Safdar of the Wall Street Journal, Grant signed a nondisclosure agreement in 2022 under which she agreed to remain silent about her allegations and her relationship with McMahon in exchange for $3 million.

Grant alleges in her lawsuit that payments stopped after an initial $1 million payment, so she is seeking to void the agreement and is suing for unspecified damages.

Additionally, Grant alleges in the lawsuit that McMahon had her "create personalized sexual content for a WWE superstar that he was trying to re-sign." Per Safdar, "The suit didn't name the professional wrestler, but described him as both a UFC fighter and WWE talent. People familiar with the matter identified the wrestler as Brock Lesnar, one of WWE's biggest names."
In the lawsuit, which names WWE, McMahon and former WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis as defendants, Grant alleges that McMahon pressured her into sexual situations and degraded her in exchange for giving her a job at WWE as administrator-coordinator in WWE's legal department after meeting her in 2019.

Grant states in the lawsuit that in June 2021 McMahon and another executive locked her in her office and took turns sexually assaulting her. She also alleged that days later, McMahon locked her in his private locker room and "forced himself on her."

McMahon allegedly sent explicit text messages to Grant and to other people within WWE about Grant, and Grant provided screenshots as part of the lawsuit.
In one text, McMahon allegedly wrote to Grant: "i'm the only one who owns U and controls who I want to f— U."
McMahon allegedly sent explicit photos of Grant to other people in WWE, and when others at WWE expressed interest in having sex with Grant after seeing photos on his phone, McMahon allegedly texted: "She may scream and try to say NO!!although it would B difficult to say anything with a c— down her throat."
Grant alleged that McMahon told her on multiple occasions to go to Laurinaitis' hotel rooms and have sex with him before workdays.

Regarding Lesnar, Grant alleged that after he signed a new contract, McMahon allegedly texted Grant "that part of the deal was f—ing U."

McMahon allegedly gave Lesnar Grant's cellphone number, and Lesnar allegedly asked her to send a video of herself urinating. Lesnar, who is married to former WWE star Sable, allegedly told Grant he wanted to "set a play date" in December 2021, but a snowstorm canceled plans.

Grant said in the lawsuit that McMahon pressured her to sign a nondisclosure agreement in January 2022 when his wife, Linda McMahon, became aware of their relationship.

In July 2022, McMahon retired from WWE after it was reported that he paid multiple women $14.6 million to remain silent about sexual encounters with him and allegations of sexual misconduct.

A WWE board of directors investigation found that McMahon improperly failed to report the payments as business expenses, and he was required to repay the company for the cost of the investigation.

Grant alleges that WWE tried to minimize her allegations of sexual assault by making the investigation more about the payments and how they were reported.

McMahon returned to WWE in January 2023 and helped orchestrate a sale of the company to Endeavor Group Holdings, which also owns the UFC. WWE and the UFC have since merged into a company called TKO Group Holdings, and McMahon is the executive chairman.

On Tuesday, the 78-year-old McMahon was present at the New York Stock Exchange as part of the TKO contingent after it was announced that WWE had reached a reported 10-year, $5 billion deal for Raw to air on Netflix beginning in 2025.

None of McMahon, Laurinaitis or Lesnar have commented on the allegations, but McMahon's lawyer, Jerry McDevitt, said in 2022 that McMahon had had a consensual relationship with Grant, who hadn't yet been named at the time.

WBB: #10 Texas vs Cincinnati - Shorthanded Horns Gut Out 67-50 win

Texas (18-3, 5-3) will be looking to turn the page on Wednesday's bad loss when they take on Cincinnati (10-8, 2-5) today at the Moody Center. The Bearcats eked out a 58-56 win Wednesday over Okie Lite on a steal and then a layup by senior F Malea Williams with 2 seconds left on the clock.

Senior F Jillian Hayes is averaging 12.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Cincinnati has outrebounded its opponent in 13 games this season, including six of seven Big 12 contests (+3.0). The Bearcats are 9-4 when they own the advantage on the glass. Cincy sits second in the league in offensive rebounds per game (14.7) behind Texas (15.7). Cincinnati has good height with 4 players 6' 3" or taller including Williams (6' 4") and center Destiny Thomas (6' 4").

The Longhorns will need to be smart on defense because the Bearcats find their way to the FT often, leading the conference in FTs made per game (15.8). Those charity stripe points account for 25.3% of their 62.4 scoring average. Texas averages 14.4 free throws made but have been less reliant on them (16.6% of their 86.5 ppg).

Vic was very vocal Wednesday about his team's performance against OU (sux) and swore they would begin addressing it when the sun came up Thursday. I wouldn't be surprised to see a change or 2 to the starting 5 or bench rotation. Cincinnati probably hope to catch Texas in a hangover situation and will be looking for:
  • First ranked win since the 2010-11 season
  • Highest ranked win in program history
  • First-ever win over Texas
This will be the Longhorns' 1st game against a more conventional lineup with similar height. I'd be very surprised if the team comes out flat this game.

Brandon Baker - LA Times Lineman of the Year

The Times’ football lineman of the year: Brandon Baker of Mater Dei

BY ERIC SONDHEIMER
COLUMNIST
DEC. 17, 2023 4:40 AM P

Brandon Baker of Mater Dei High has been the biggest, most bruising blocker in the Southland.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound senior offensive tackle just dominates, whether protecting the quarterback or opening holes for the running backs.

He has been named The Times’ lineman of the year after helping Mater Dei win the Southern Section Division 1 championship and the CIF Open Division state championship bowl game.

Committed to Texas, there’s no reason not to believe Baker has a bright future in college football and beyond.

Chris Ward, the offensive line coach at Orange Lutheran who helps run Allegiance Athletics, a lineman tutoring service, said, “He’s extremely fluid in his movements and almost looks effortless. A great frame that any college will easily transform into an early contributor.”

Thanks to his presence, he helped quarterback Elijah Brown go 42-2 as a starting quarterback.

Brandon Baker of Mater Dei is The Times' lineman of the year.

Madden 24 MUT Players - CFB Mod Texas OU Gameplay

I generally try to help my oldest out with his team. ;) We have an all Texans team. (86 OVR I think) I've been trying to use MaddenGG for stacks and such but want to make sure I'm clear on this.

These are recommended stacks and AP cost for each cost, correct? I just looked at it on my pc to post instead of my phone so I think I understand it now. AP can be used on all players and not just X Factor players, right? Just have to stay at the mad for both sides of the ball which is 11, if I remember right.

Who here plays online? I'm sort of tired of playing against nanos, money plays, Vick and Johnny Football (No idea why he is popular) Do y'all use stock teams or custom built teams to play.

PS5 name is the same as on here, hitmanwa. I don't use a mic btw...not sure if that's a must or anything.

Biggest difference between Terry and Beard

The energy. Beard wouldn't let you forget there was a Texas basketball game happening. He threw parties, had theme nights, got out with the students, whatever it took to make sure everyone was up and ready for a game, including the crowd.

I'm not sure I've seen RT do an LHN interview let alone anything to remind people we have a basketball team

Such a massive disappointment dude couldn't keep his shit together
