Where does former tackle Kenneth Sims rank at his position at UT....

Since we have a DJ and Nobis thread lets throw the tackle postion in there.
My pops (RIP) taught and coached Kenneth so I have a soft spot for him. Witnessed firsthand what he did in high school as a buddy and I were freshman team equipment managers. (or water boys-lol). I have never seen a player take over a game like he did sans Brackens in high school. Thoughts?

1. Sweat
2. Hampton
3. Sims
4. McMichael
5 Rogers

Horns 247 had him ranked #1
1. KENNETH SIMS (1978-81)

Why he’s in this spot?

When Sims arrived at Texas, the Longhorn coaches tested him physically with the bench press. He tested in the 160-pound range. But by the time he left Texas, he was benching 425 and was a two-time All-American. He won the Outland Award as a senior in 1981. He combined athleticism, with sheer strength, size and power. He was just so smooth and so quick for a big man. And he was so physically dominant that he ended up being the No. 1 pick overall in the NFL Draft.

How he ended up at Texas
Ken Dabbs: “I was at a hotel in Dallas getting ready to go to the airport and the Rice coaches came in. They asked me where I was going. I had to get a cab, but the Rice coaches said we’ll take you. They asked me what I thought of a guy from Kosse. Rice said, I think he’s going to A&M.” Kosse is a small town near Groesbeck. Dabbs and the Texas coaches had never heard of Sims or of Kosse, but they figured that out and went by the high school the very next day.

Quotable
FRED AKERS: “By the time Kenneth came along he had the combined strength, speed and quickness. I’ll never forget this. I was in Dallas at the time, and they had the Longhorn club meeting the week of the Oklahoma game. Mike Parker spoke at that Thursday meeting in Dallas. All the people there were the diehard Texas people. He said, ‘We’re going to win because of Kenneth Sims.’ His analogy all came down to just because Oklahoma has no match for him. Sure enough, he dominates the game.”

Fun activities for a 4 year old and 3 year old in Austin

Hello everyone, I am heading to Austin during SxSW and, for the first time, will have my wife and two kids there with me during the event. Trying to figure out fun things for them to do around town (and yes, we know traffic is hell and it is spring break!).

Would appreciate any tips - know we were looking at mayfield park, cathedral junk (closed temporarily), and the downtown library.

Would love to hear other options - excited to show them my favorite town for the first time!!

Lifetime Longhorn Malcom Brown (DT) to be Head Football Coach at my kids school in Austin.

@Ketchum @Anwar Richardson
Brown was announced yesterday as the new Head Football Coach at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School. Press conference to be held tomorrow morning at 11 AM.
Pretty cool development for our small Catholic School in North Austin. I'd post pics but don't know how. If you look up the school on Instagram, there are several pics of

him at the announcement there.

Correct me if I'm wrong

But top tier High School football talent WILL NOT simply go to the highest bidder. Yes, the NIL package needs to be in the same neck of the woods as competitors, but at the end of the day, NIL money will mostly pale in comparison to the earnings in an NFL career (for the top talent when they make the NFL).

So top talent wants ~some~ money but still mostly cares about getting developed for the NFL.

Remember That Thread on Commercial Loans Coming Due & Potential Crisis - New York Community Bank Just Dropped 42% Trading Halted

Could this be the "Bear Stearns Moment" for commercial lending similar to the Sub-Prime Meltdown?

If NYCB is the "Canary In The Coal Mine" the bird just died and the ripple-effect may have begun.

This is not good.

In need of website help…..

As some of y’all know I am a partner in a family owned and operated home building company located in Austin. We
actively support UT Athletics and are proud supporters of the UT NIL effort as some here can attest to.

My brother started our company in 1999 the year after I graduated from UT and I bought in in 2009 after cutting my teeth in the volume builder corporate America environment.

I’ve had various people within our org handle website updates over the years but they have all been pretty meh and don’t really do much. I’m looking to do an overhaul upon completion of a home we are currently building that fronts Lake Austin. I want to use it as our “covergirl” if you will.

Having a site that really tells our story and who we are as people while showing off what we are capable of is what I’m looking for. It needs to be uniqe, attention grabbing and user friendly. There will be a budget but I understand quality and vision comes with a price. That said. I’m not looking for a Bentley but definitely don’t want a Geo Metro either. A Denali /Escalade is what I have in mind but really don’t know what that costs and if the cost and maintenance will be worth the investment.

Time frame to go live would be Fall 2024.

DM me if interested. I am traveling for the next 12 days with my daughter so be patient with me. I will respond to all who reach out.

Dimi…..

Today's Gift (3-5)

The difference between Mercy and Grace? Mercy gave the prodigal son a second chance. Grace gave him a feast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Max Lucado
Few parables, if any, have generated as much confusion and angst as the parable of the Prodigal Son. Younger son takes his inheritance and leaves home, while his older brother stays behind and helps their father run the family farm. Younger brother behaves badly, goes broke, and returns home, begging simply to be "put on the payroll" as a hired hand. But his father rejoices, and throws a party. Well, surprise surprise, the older brother does not understand and is thoroughly angered and filled with resentment.
We tend to see this parable as some kind of counter-intuitive instruction manual for child-raising. It isn't. It is instead a tale to illustrate the boundless nature of God's love for His creations, that His open arms will always take us back in. How then do we apply that to our lives? Allen Jones once told me about his "making amends" tour, where he went back to his family of origin to ask for their forgiveness, and to introduce them to the new Allen. It took some time, he said, but it was time well spent, on the path to reconciliation.
Which character(s) have we been? The Father? The Prodigal? The older brother?
Blessings my friends.
