WBB: #10 Texas @ #24 WVU, Saturday, 1:00 (ESPN+)

Texas (14-1, 1-1) travels to Morgantown to take on WVU (13-0, 2-0) who just entered the Top 25 under new coach Mark Kellogg. The Mountaineers have a couple of decisive wins under their belt (then #25 Penn State by 18 and a talented but so far underperforming Kansas squad by 25). They are a veteran team with 3 "fifth year" players including the oft traveled Lauren Fields who is on her 3rd school (via Okie Lite and Arizona).

As expected, WVU's leading scorer is junior guard JJ Quinerly - she's good in the midrange, can slash her way to the basket and is a very good defender. Longhorn ball-handlers have to be aware of Quinerly, Fields and soph guard Jordan Harrison - all 3 are good at getting their hands on the ball. The trio also likes to jack the ball up from distance as they average 14.5 3-attempts between the 3 of them, Harrison has been the most accurate at 41.7% (20/48).

Leading rebounder 5' 10" Kyah Watson only averages 6.0 per game - WVU is just +4.9 on the boards but they generate extra possessions with almost 10 steals per game. They are also a bit undersized with only 2 players over 6' 1" - 2 bigs at 6' 3" and 6'4" but neither are very athletic.

Games against WVU in the past usually resembled rugby more than basketball under their longtime coach Mike Carey but he was let go 2 seasons ago. His replacement, Dawn Plitzuweit, bolted for the Minnesota HC job after 1 season in Morgantown. I don't know what to expect from a Kellogg coached team - he was the head coach at SFA for the previous 8 seasons and had success there (195-55, 78%).

Texas needs to be disciplined with the ball and maintain good perimeter defense. If Deyona and Aaliyah can build on their game against Tech, the Longhorns should be in good shape. Also, Vic had an update on Taylor during his media availability - Taylor will be "available" - it's always nice to get your leading scorer back on the court for however long she can go.

From ESPN's article about this season's stats and trends thus far:

51.8%: Texas' field goal percentage

Why it matters: We typically think of Vic Schaefer's teams as defensive juggernauts. But this year's squad leads the nation in field goal percentage and is further along offensively than defensively in some respects. Whether the stat holds with point guard Rori Harmon lost for the year remains to be seen, but the Longhorns' offense will only get better whenever Taylor Jones, their leading scorer, can return from injury.

Texas A&M-Qatar

So proud the State of Texas in its infinite wisdom has chosen to become a national defense sellout to Hamas & anti-semitism. Seriously, what aggy board admin thought this was a good Idea & even publicly bragged about it? So what is the going payoff for treason? Trying not to get too political, but what is the long-term benefit from cozying up to China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, or Qatar?

Once again aggie acting without actually thinking things through. They must teach the Corp "Ready, Fire, Aim!"

OT: Question for any Property Tax Gurus

Question for any property tax experts out there.

We moved to a house in Salado (Bell County) in July 2022 and somehow missed applying for the Homestead exemption until May 2023.
Well, as you can imagine, their was a massive market value increase in 2023, made much worse by us not getting the 10% cap on the assessed value put in place in time.
Now the 10% cap is in place, but it came after the massive increase in market value. This 'mistake' is going to cost us $4k/year for the next 10 years ($40k total!)

Is there anything that can be done, or are we screwed? It was a simple mistake to not file the HS exemption after we closed.

NFL Coach of the Year odds

There are so many good candidates this year. I’d also add Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers as a good candidate as well. However, I like to see guys win it that are leading teams with several past trash seasons to new glory. I think Ryans and Stefanski are the top two if you use that criteria. The odds on this site have them right at the top. I’m not starting a poll but what are your thoughts on the winner?

Rob Ryan as LB Coach and Co-DC

Ok so my bro was at a big BMD party last night when the playas were drowning sorrows and figuring out how we will have world domination for the next decade.

Sauces indicate that Rob Ryan as co-DC is almost a “done deal.” This is the same birdie who tipped me off weeks in advance about Sark getting hired before he was on the radars of any other buttmunch fake insiders. Let’s just say that you’re hoss has some “deep” connections in bEast Texas bro.

So little do most know that Sark and Rob or “Robbo” as Sark calls him were both on the 2004 Oakland Raiders staff. They were both party guys and Ryan took the young brotha under his wing. He knew the ship was gonna sink and advised Sark to bail back to USC.

Anywho this is good news bro cuz Sark is really butthurt about PK’s fails in zone coverage and pass rush. Expect Ryan to be more active than your average LB coach and be a MAJOR hype man and sideline presence going forward. I don’t think we’ll be feeling like douches after our first playoff game again next year

Grand canyon recs (rim to rim)

Myself and wife from nam what to go on an adventure and a grand canyon hike is at the top of the list. We want to go rim to rim and back. What month is best for this? Can someone help with an outfitter or any do’s or dont’s for this kind of trip? I am expecting to book it way out and thought this would be good for planning and getting in shape for it.

Thank you for any help provided!!
