4 star OT Rafiti Ghirmai is set to announce his commitment today at noon. UT vs UCLA. Things have been trending back and forth but currently sit with Texas. Would be a good get at a position of need.

Ghirmai is listed as an offensive tackle recruit but could end up playing anywhere along the offensive line. He played RT as a junior in HS. His Nike verified height is 6'5" and he weighs 295 pounds. Ideally, he still has an inch or two to grow and he could easily carry 325 pounds.

His nike combine numbers highlight some impressive athleticism for a near 300 pounder. His 5.5 40 and 5 flat shuttle, combined with his 24 inch vertical and 40 foot powerball throw are good indicators of a powerful and mobile player. His film backs this up.

His strength is his run blocking. He reminds me of Vahe in that regard. He regularly wipes his guy completely out of the play. Once completely out of the play, he is tenacious in his finishing of blocks as he frequently puts the defender on their backs and makes sure they stay there. He is a play to the echo of the whistle kind of guy. We don't see him pull often from his right tackle position but when he does, he seems capable of hitting a smaller target in space and once locked on, its game over.

We don't see as many pass blocking highlights but he seems capable. He has the athleticism to stay in front of a rush end and good strength to fight off a bull rush and punish someone trying a swim or spin move. His camp highlights probably highlight his pass block ability the most as he seems to hold his own against some top tier competition (in shorts and shirts).

We will be in the need of tackles very soon and I'm hopeful Ghirmai can fill one of those roles in several years. If not, I think he will make a great interior lineman that RBs will love to run behind.

Some things I see after watching that:

He's big and using his size to overwhelm people. Competition will be better at the next level so technique must improve. He seems REAL strong.

Feet are a little wide at point of attack.
Easily corrected.

He gets a little tall on run block.
Easily corrected.

He has a good punch on pass pro- needs to sink his hips a little more and set in his rocking chair.
Easily corrected.

He hustles- you can't coach that.

He's a little slow footed, needs to be little lighter. Proper diet and body transformation will trim his fat and replace it with muscle which will improve his foot speed.

He's got good grab, but sometimes grabs a bit too much cloth. He'll learn after a few holding penalties.

Over all- pretty good looking kid with high upshot potential.
