Another one in the portal!

Rising and Thompson committed to Texas at a time when there was no clear cut starter and the position had been a dumpster fire for nearly a decade. And now they’re both looking a sitting another two years behind Eglinger (after redshirting in 2018). I don’t find this the least bit surprising.
That’s a stretch, at least as to both transferring. They are two years removed from Sam. Are they really just going to find some power five school that hands them that much of a better situation when neither has proven anything at the college level? It would indeed be a surprise to lose both right now.

Without Rising and Thompson, we have a real QB with 2 years of eligibility left, a rising senior who's apparently staying, a highly touted recruit coming in, and another one the year after him. It's pretty clear that if Rising and Thompson transfer, it's a reflection of our depth. But a decade of having a clown show at QB has left folks here thinking that there must be something wrong with the team if any QB transfers. OB has lots of PTSD when it comes to QB.

Nobody knows if Roschon is the future. Rising is further advanced as a passer than he is.
Regardless, neither is starting for two years so it doesn’t matter who is more advanced at this stage.

Sam, Shane plus RJ plus Card begins them is absolutely plenty of QB depth.

Anyone with a brain could see having 5 scholarship QBs on the roster, with the starter still having two years of eligibility left, is not sustainable and there would likely be attrition.

They must not of expected Sam to excel the way he did the season and were confident they could beat out both Sam and Shane.

It’s not wrong. You have Roschon coming in and enrolling early as well. Card and others in the pipeline.

When is Thompson supposed to get a shot? He wouldn’t baring injury. I don’t like it but it is what it is.
It makes sense for the one that is behind the other to transfer, but you don’t make a decision to transfer based on a freshman coming in that hasn’t stepped foot on campus. Plus they will each lose a year of eligibility. Rising should have 2 years to start and only 3 max if he starts the first year at another school. There’s something going on for both guys to put in for that list.

Two things are a must. Shane has to stay and Roschon needs to be as advertised.

That's true. I think the key and maybe the answer to all of this is that Shane may be staying. If all 3 leave it's beyond ridiculous. The number two guy should get some nice playing time next year if our offense keeps improving. I'd love to at least keep Rising, but if Shane stays then I'm ok with it.

Honestly this is smart for both of them. They can test the waters and if they don’t like what they see they can stay. This going to become a common occurance. Sam is not going anywhere for two years and RJ might beat them out. Then you have Card.
RJ is not beating out Rising.

Rising has a chance to beat out Sam if they were on an equal playing field (which they’re obviously not since Sam has proof that he can play D1 QB, very very well)

It would hurt to lose both of them, especially because Shane is a total misfit in this offense.

I love people who post shit out their ass with no real proof other than that’s what they want to believe.
Well done to the most level headed calm poster on OB.

So you’re that good that you can already evaluate RJ and Rising at the next level. If Rising can beat out Sam at any level then I would imaging he would at least be the #2 coming out of the Spring ball next year.

The idea that Rising had a CHANCE to play over Sam, with the big difference maker being experience and proof in a college game, is straight from Herman’s mouth. Not mine.

Roschon needs a RS. It will be Shane and a walk on or a grad transfer if these kids bolt.

I only bolt if I've been told there is no competition in that room or if I understand that to be a fact even if I'm not told. Shane is a senior and if there is any competition in that room I should be about to beat him or a and possibly take the top spot if given a chance.

Hook'em

If Herman told them that if Shane stays, he’s the 2nd QB, period.

That’s the only reason why they would be scared of Shane staying.
I just wouldn’t think they would care about being QB2 vs QB3- they are going to sit behind Sam, barring injury, no matter what. Are mop up snaps really that gratifying?

Coachspeak unless you’re boys with Herman and be privately confided with you and you decided to share it.

Hopefully at least one stays. If Shane is staying, that means he is cool with not being the starter and locked into pursuing his UT degree and furthering his coaching career. If, and i stress IF, the above is true, he would also be cool with either of the younger guys getting 2nd team reps.

I hope that one of the 2 young QBs feel the same way.
