Another one in the portal!

Shane must have made it clear to the team that he is not transferring.
Who cares? It couldn’t be Shane. No QB is competing to be No. 2; therefore it shouldn’t matter if SB stays, he graduates next year anyway. It is more than likely Sam will be the QB next year anyway, so none of this makes sense...

any way you slice it. It would only make sense if the coaches knew that Justin Fields or another X’fer was coming here. As things stand (to us, at least) nothing has changed since the day those two signed on the dotted line... this isn’t a case of “Vince Young Jr. has elected to transfer to TX”; this just has a “something internal happened that hasn’t yet been divulged “ feel to it.

One thing is for sure though, OB will stay calm and rational conjecture will espouse from the board!

It’s not wrong. You have Roschon coming in and enrolling early as well. Card and others in the pipeline.

When is Thompson supposed to get a shot? He wouldn’t baring injury. I don’t like it but it is what it is.
Aren’t Thompson and Roschon comparable as recruits? Why would a senior in high school scare him off?

They are here until they aren’t, right? Does having your name in the “portal” mean you are definitely leaving or putting notice out that you want to be “recruited”?

This is new to me.

Putting your name in the portal doesn't mean your gone. It gives them the opportunity to see if there are greener pastures. If they don't transfer in January, they can go through Spring practice before making a decision and be further along in the process should they decide to leave. Alternatively, if the perfect situation comes up between now and January enrollment, they can jump on it.

This is fvcking dumb. They have the chance to be the guy for two years after Sam leaves, and that's assuming Sam doesn't get hurt. You transfer, sit out another year, for the chance to be the guy for one extra year? And that's not a guarantee either.

If we keep bringing in top talent at the position every year, which you have to to remain relevant, then this shouldn't matter much. Yes, it isn't very stable but if the room is constantly being re-stocked the next man up when the time comes should provide a solid transition.

We're in an age when the opportunities are greater than they used to be. More teams, more televised games, and more press. You don't have to be at a top program or sit for very long to get your shot at the next level.

The vast majority of these kids are not going to make it to the next level though and most of them that do aren't going to make the kind of impact they hope to. That's the part that seems to get missed in a lot of this.

Sports only last so long and more than likely you won't make your life's living off it. Having a degree from a top notch university and connections sets you up for the opportunity to excel with or without sports though.

Then again, hard work, dedication, and resolve can outlast both sports and a degree from a great school. Tons of ways to be successful if you're willing to work at it.

So, best of luck to them and I just hope their support systems keep in-mind what's most important for their careers and personal growth.

Freshman are starting at QB all over the country and these kids are looking at not starting for 2 more years and then they'll have 2-3 more QB's to compete with for the job.

I'm not surprised they are looking to transfer. I'm surprised they are looking to transfer now.
Freshmen not freshman.

Chance Mock waited his turn and everything turned out fine. What are these kids worried about?

So is there a way to access the transfer portal to see who is in it. Is it possible that we can find some offensive and defensive linemen in there?

Remember when cdun was riding J Heards nuts.

Look i think Rising will be a very goodnolayer, but to say he would beat out Sam right nos specialally the improvement we saw of him this year is pretty ridiculous.

Bunch of pu$$ies.

I'm pretty sure all of this stems from Shane telling the staff and team he's not transferring. Thompson and Rising both thought he would, as did most of us.

SIAP.

So, Shane isn't transferring now. I take it he didn't graduate. But what if he graduates in the Spring? Will he look to become a graduate transfer?

Maybe there was something to those reports about trouble in the QB room - jeeeeBussssss

That’s a stretch, at least as to both transferring. They are two years removed from Sam. Are they really just going to find some power five school that hands them that much of a better situation when neither has proven anything at the college level? It would indeed be a surprise to lose both right now.

If Sam ends up being a 4-year starter, Rising and Thompson (if they stay) will have watched from the sidelines for 3 of them. As of now, neither has burned any eligibility. Do I believe they can find a better situation than that? Insert Dumb and Dumber “yeah” gif here.

I’ll concede that losing both is a kick in the nuts, but, again, I’m not all that surprised. It would be more surprising to me if a talented QB from out of state and the son of a former OU QB came to Texas and sat on the bench for 3 years.
