"Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, etc."
Yeah, that has nothing to do with race baiting.
Scholtz - this is where you and the left lose me."Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, etc."

The laws are stacked in favor of the wealthy. .
That is not what I said, but it would be true if people voted in their own self interest. I don't want more of things I think are inefficient. If I thought the federal government was efficient, I might want more of it. I vote republican because I believe the Democrats are worse, not because the Republicans are good. I hate Hillary and Trump. In my opinion, these are the worst two options in my lifetime. (Bush and Kerry were a distant second). Is this truly the way you see it? If a person votes Democrat then they are voting to get themselves something...and if a person votes Republican he is voting so the government will not do something to him? Really?
Don't bring up right wing racist dog whistle talking points then.If you want to discuss policies, I'll play along.
If you're just going to tell me that I'm a racist I'll politely move along. No time for that BS. Let me know....
Anyone not in the top 2% voting for Democrats are voting in their own self interests. If you think you have anything whatsoever in common with the Walton and Koch families *, and think their policies will benefit you in the slightest, then you are a damn fool. That is not what I said, but it would be true if people voted in their own self interest...A poor person voting for Bernie is being rational and smart. I don't blame them at all.
Lol. Couldn't resist. Had to post on that thread.
I agree that my interests are not the same as the ultra rich. You don't have to a be a billionaire to end up paying 40% of your income in taxes including federal, state (no longer live in Texas), payroll (ss & mc), property taxes, sales taxes, etc.. It gets old really quick.Anyone not in the top 2% voting for Democrats are voting in their own self interests. * besides being on the same side of the culture wars of course which is how working and middle class whites have been fooled into voting against their own economic self interests since Nixon employed his Southern Strategy a half century ago.
Try expanding your news sources beyond the media arm of the republican party. Might help.
republicans are the party of the rich. That's who they cater to. Their policies do not benefit the middle and working classes whatsoever. Period.

Then why has the wealthiest done so well? If all the cards are stacked against the poor ole top 1% then why is their wealth growing larger and faster than the bottom 99%? Look at tax policy throughout the history of the U.S. and tell me how the wealthy of today are somehow being screwed. Love to hear it. The gap between the 2 groups is wider than EVER. And don't start with tht 39.6% crap..with all the writeoffs and other crap they pay close to 12%. Lower than the avg American taxpayer.Like the 39.6% tax rate, which assessed only against the "wealthy". And having to match 7.65% social security/Medicaid tax on each of my employees. And the 4% Obamacare surcharge. Forget the gas tax, property tax, alcohol tax, sales tax. If somehow, some way, I pinch enough pennies to accumulate a little wealth - 40% of every dollar over 5 million gets taken by the feds for estate tax (I assume you classify $5 million as rich - they are the only ones paying this).
And the most disgusting thing about this is ---- ITS STILL NOT ENOUGH - WE HAVE A 500 BILLION DEFICIT AND $19 TRILLION DEBT! You convinced me - the laws are stacked in favor of the wealthy!
Where is our moderator? I want Shaka talk, I want more recruiting talk. I don't want this crap!
Not me! I think the Big 12 should hang tough. If this conference sucks so bad, then the road to the Final 4 in Football should be a cakewalk. Go beat OU on the 2nd Saturday in October, and you are in. Why go to Big 10, and tangle with Ohio St., Michigan St., etc. If you really think you want that competition, nothing prevents you from scheduling them in OOC games. In the meantime, take that LHN money, go buy the best coaching staff money can buy, or, screw that, give 300 more students a free ride and upgrade the student body.Uh oh, this thread really jumped the tracks. Going to bite my tongue and slowly back away now...
Better life choices?? Do you not realize that if every single person in our country got a college degree that we would still need...soldiers, cops, firemen, teachers, carpenters, and on and on and on. There will always be rich and poor. The object should be to get as many in the middle as you can. Not everyone can be rich no matter how hard they work or how much they want to be. Most wealth is passed down. I have to laugh when I hear the rich are being punished...it is a joke. when 400 people own as much as the bottom 150 million then something is wrong. How to fix it I don't know....but its wrong.I agree that my interests are not the same as the ultra rich. You don't have to a be a billionaire to end up paying 40% of your income in taxes including federal, state (no longer live in Texas), payroll (ss & mc), property taxes, sales taxes, etc.. An occasional thank you would be nice, instead of complaining about income inequality from people with no skills. Make better life choices.
I swore I was off politics, but you drew me back in!!! I notice you didn't address the over 50% effective tax rate I pay. The great Warren Buffet, who I assume you are referencing, makes his income from capital gains and dividends. Working stiffs like me are striving to accumulate enough capital so that I too can take advantage of capital gains rates - but the effective 50%+ tax rate prevents it from happening. All my income, and the vast majority of the "rich" is ordinary income. BTW - "all the writeoffs" - as your income rises, the amount of your itemized deductions are reduced. Tell me about these write offs. Then why has the wealthiest done so well? If all the cards are stacked against the poor ole top 1% then why is their wealth growing larger and faster than the bottom 99%? Ahem, resident firefighter here, Masters Degree. All Tulsa Police are required to have a Bachelors Degree, minimum.Better life choices?? Do you not realize that if every single person in our country got a college degree that we would still need...soldiers, cops, firemen, teachers, carpenters, and on and on and on...
You said a lot for someone who didn't say anything. Go look at the statistics over the history of the U.S.... You think that the middle class doesn't pay close to 50% of their income? I do.I swore I was off politics, but you drew me back in!!! I notice you didn't address the over 50% effective tax rate I pay. The great Warren Buffet, who I assume you are referencing, makes his income from capital gains and dividends. Income inequality? Ask the Great Obama! Every month he tells me that unemployment rate is going down. Every day Bern tells me about growing income inequality. What does that tell you? This economic recovery is a sham - good paying jobs are being replaced with poor paying jobs. Those car factory jobs that paid union guys $70K/year plus benefits have gone overseas and are never coming back. Never. So you can go protest, or cry woe is me, or sit in a corner and pout. Or you can figure out another way. If you just want to make money, then go look at who makes money and copy. If you don't give a hoot about money, then do what makes you happy (which is another thing that makes me cringe - the left accusing conservatives of being greedy, and yet, ironically, the left is the one trying to take the money through higher taxes - now who only cares about money?) When Mack Brown let the program slip, I didn't see one person on here say that it was unfair that Baylor and TCU were doing better. No, the Horns fired Brown and hired another guy they hope is better. And if Strong doesn't get it going, he'll get fired and another guy will be brought in. Quit crying and get after it!
BTW - has Kai been moved to WR yet?
Wow. Don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say. Something needs to change. I don't know what but something. The way we are going is unsustainable.Common ground! I don't know how to fix it either. But I don't think the answer is dragging others down.
You may be a sooner but I do admire your duty to your community. Not everyone thinks being a fireman is a failure. I happen to believe that a fireman is a noble profession.Ahem, resident firefighter here, Masters Degree. All Tulsa Police are required to have a Bachelors Degree, minimum.
1 income used to be able to buy a house, car and raise 3 kids. Think about that. Very few jobs would be able to do that now.
Oh that is the problem? Just don't buy phones, computers, tvs and other toys then the wealth gap will shrink? Cool. That is easy. I think the gap should be smaller and if you don't then ok. We agree to disagree and I am done. What's your definition of poor? Those professions you listed are far from poor. I guess there are poor people working in those professions but those aren't poor professions, and the avenue for those professions to earn enough to not be poor is already in place. They just need to make the right decisions and stay on it. I am not going to argue that the rich are being screwed, but wealth can't grow unless it's invested in something other than phone plans, HD TVs, Satellite/cable TV, video games, and various other toys.
That is from the 1950 and 60s. Does anybody ever read about how it used to be and how it is now on a subject anymore? This info is easy to find.Is that a benchmark?
In the right instances you can make more money as a fireman without a degree than most Degreed professions out there. I am in the upper 80's now as a Officer without a degree while my wife who has her Doctorate in education makes upper 70's as a principal and I have never met anybody that thought being a fireman was a failure, even when I was a federal police officer. You may be a sooner but I do admire your duty to your community. Not everyone thinks being a fireman is a failure. I happen to believe that a fireman is a noble profession.
I can't even reach across the aisle! Not trying to put words into your mouth. Just looking at it from a different point of view.Wow. Don't put words in my mouth that I didn't say. Something needs to change. I don't know what but something. The way we are going is unsustainable.
